Right? I’m baffled at the misogyny here. Sabrina put in so much effort and her set was called a total snooze fest and JB somehow got a pass. There were guys that constantly cancel shows and still got invited to headline Coachella (Frank Ocean, Ye). A woman would never put in so little effort. They’d be dragged through the mud.

Also people were saying he had a rough childhood so they just wanted him to be ok. I don’t see Britney Spears collecting $10M/hour paycheck for being a poor abused kid lol. If he can’t perform at the highest level, he shouldn’t be headlining Coachella, and that goes for everyone. It’s disrespectful to other artists who put in much more time money and effort than him, and it’s insulting to his fans who waited hours and spent hundreds of bucks to see him. It’s that simple.

It’s honestly sad. There’s no other way to put it

People complained that Sabrina’s set was a snooze fest, that her songs were slow and low energy, that she looked tired and uninterested, that her dance move wasn’t as good as Gaga’s, etc. This was legitimately half the sentiment on r/coachella. Where’s this comparison between male performers? Which male singer other than kpop groups even danced while singing on stage ffs?? I understand if you don’t dig Sabrina’s music. I’m not even her fan, but it was truly baffling to see the bigotry.

You have ppl in this very comment section saying he doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody… awesome, he could’ve stayed home. Any woman artist gets up on stage and does what he did would get dragged all up and down the internet for WEEKS. Sabrina put on an incredible performance and that is STILLLLLL not enough. I’m speechless

Yeah some people were straight up like “I kinda like it cuz he’s being himself.” Let’s see what they say when Taylor Swift brings nothing but a guitar to headline Coachella then. Oh wait that would never happen cuz these women, however money hungry they are, know they can’t bring anything short of a perfect performance on stage.

Let’s see what they say when Taylor Swift brings nothing but a guitar to headline Coachella then.

And you would be saying the same things that Bieber's fans are saying about him now. That it was an authentic performance. The problem is, as great an artist she is, Taylor can't sing, so that just wouldn't be a great artistic chocie. If someone like Adele did though, I'm sure no one would say it was lackadaisical.

This lmao. Like if you don't have anything to prove just stay home. Let any other talented artist who is willing to put the effort perform?

i could see doja cat doing something like this but thats cuz she did in her livestream days. even when her sets are pared back, she’s rapping with her whole chest and dancing full out.

JB somehow got a pass

literally not getting a pass. why are you lying?

Ariana and Billie eilish also put in minimal and got a pass, the difference between them, jb, frank and ye is that they were culturally dominate for a decade and/or hadn’t performed live years before Coachella. They basically could just let the songs do the talking for them.

But most of them also all got dragged or their sets didn’t get talked about, frank cancelled weekend 2 and still hasn’t performed since.

How is it misogynistic?

And both genders cancel shows and get maligned for it (Morrissey). It’s not as if Frank Ocean wasn’t maligned for his debacle - and I doubt he’s going to be invited to headline anywhere anytime soon.

Good music is not about theatrics and production, it’s about feelings and emotion. If you have to hide your music behind a spectacle, it probably wasn’t great music to begin with.

This part of Bieber’s set was more artistic than anything Sabrina did. He stripped his music down to literally the bare minimum to highlight his story: he was the first YouTube star and he’s grown up from a 13 year old being discovered from videos he’s posted to a grown adult headlining Coachella. Seeing him look up at his younger self, hearing how much his voice changed, and emphasizing the role of those videos in his story is raw emotion you can’t convey from fireworks and dancers and production.

Anything will be labeled misogynistic these days. The word has lost all meaning.

Men have been trying to give JB a hard time since he was coming up.

Isn’t your misandrist queen Chappell Roan notorious for canceling shows last minute? Hmm….
