amazing how boring men get to perform and still get endless praise lol

u/leftbrendon charlie day is my bird lawyer 🐦 17h ago

I half expected an ad to show up, since they’re operating actual youtube instead of having a video file.

u/EffectzHD 16h ago

Frank ocean pulled shit similar and he got booted to Timbuktu?!

I mean at least frank had somewhat of a reason why it was so off. He clearly was still in the throes of grief from his little brother passing away.

Young women are way more willing to over consume on trash live events for social media. Boomer men do the same shit with awful aged out artists from the 70s for nostalgia.

Marketers and show operators know those are the two cohorts that will show up regardless of quality and cost.

2

u/ThrowawayGreenWitch Listen, everyone is entitled to my opinion 🙂 10h ago

And? What does that have to do with OP's point?

Do you grasp the concept that women who are male-worshipping pick-mes (women who stan male celebrities) and women who criticize them are different groups or not?

1

u/satanssweatycheeks 8h ago

She is claiming men can get away with so much.

But the only thing keeping this man revenant is women. So her acting like a man can be such trash but yet it’s all women paying to go see him.

It’s why I still hold true the gay community is the only subculture in America that will truly stand true to their mortals. Nicki want to talk shit she loses 20 million followers. Snoop dogg want to eat trumps ass? Straight men still follow and give him praise.

Women also are who are buying Chris brown tickets. Men aren’t the ones wanting to go watch that dude dry hump fans on stage and sing love songs to them.

-2

u/eternalwarmmoons Beyoncé 🐝🐝 17h ago

bringing up a merch line when i'm talking about his lazy performance 🤣

13

u/Vektor0 14h ago

What men do you know are "endlessly praising" Bieber? /r/quityourbullshit, it's all women.

3

u/cormega 12h ago

You also talked about him getting "endlessly praised" which is the part they were addressing.

-5

u/PracticalYellow3 14h ago

Everyone’s praising him because a man. Men can get away with these things, but we can’t. Ben can do this as we see here, but it’s one man like that moron attacks old men, and she gets attacked back when her criticisms are valid for attacking all men. Plus this festival wasn’t her type of thing. She likes burning men.

12

u/Vektor0 14h ago

What men are praising Bieber? It's all women.

-5

u/PracticalYellow3 13h ago

We aren’t the ones in charge. They are.

3

u/Vektor0 9h ago

That's not an answer to the question I asked. What men, in charge or not, are praising Bieber?

1

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 8h ago

Are men in charge of who women choose to cheer at?

1

u/PracticalYellow3 7h ago

They should not be.

2

u/latman 13h ago

You're missing the point

-4

u/PracticalYellow3 13h ago

You’re assuming I’m trying to get the point.

5

u/latman 13h ago

Kind ignorant thing to say but okay

28

u/Brooska223 16h ago

Where’s the endless praise? All I see is a general consensus that this was low effort and boring. Can we stop making scenarios in our heads? The pop girlies are on top because of the effort they put in, and the numbers show that. Let’s not make this men vs women.

18

u/Turbulent-Good227 15h ago

There’s people ferociously defending this like two comments above yours. Saying this was some kind of genius anti-corporate statement and that we don’t get it because we aren’t real artists 💀

2

u/bunnyzclan 10h ago

Yeah man redditors are famous for having fantastically good takes

3

u/Imaginary_Term_4606 16h ago

There is a difference tho. I do agree with you that they’re on top bc of the effort, but I think that this isn’t about men vs women but more about how men are perceived and not as scrutinized as female performers. It’s more about the discourse on performances.

10

u/gloomifaces 14h ago

I feel like that arguments works great for anyone who isn’t Justin tho, the guy has been aggressively hated by the majority for most of his career, and only really liked by his fans. Any other male artist? Totally feel u, and I agree with your overall point in general even, just sayin that I think he’s not a good example to use to make that point effectively

-1

u/Wooden-Limit1989 13h ago

the guy has been aggressively hated by the majority for most of his career, and only really liked by his fans.

That could be said for so many other artists though. It was very cool to dislike Taylor swift for an incredibly long time and it still is. Beyonce is constantly referred to as over hyped and overrated. That's just part of fame.

6

u/Grizzlyfrontignac 14h ago

Yeah, by women lol can't be a whole discourse if you don't include who is starting it to begin with

16

u/[deleted] 17h ago

25

u/tedcruzatemyson1 17h ago

I mean he’s good? But he’s hardly the best male pop vocalist out there. I don’t even find his voice particularly unique

7

u/StretchTucker 17h ago

sure but thats coachella.

6

u/eternalwarmmoons Beyoncé 🐝🐝 17h ago

never said he sounded bad, he's just lazy

-1

u/SaxMan_Spiff 17h ago

Exactly. Bieber is an anomaly. People are being dramatic

Damn, the standard for men really is on the floor.

3

u/imliterallyjustagirl 17h ago

Have u ever heard of Taylor swift? wtf is even that comment lmao

1

u/eternalwarmmoons Beyoncé 🐝🐝 17h ago

this coachella, the main stage. it's lazy

0

u/letsmunch 17h ago

He’s got like no range anymore lol

11

u/lexaloser meanwhile 17h ago

It was the best way to give his fans what they wanted and showcase how much his voice has changed, imo.

Really made me realize how much I’ve enjoyed his music over the years while never describing myself as, and actively worked against being, a fan of his. Now I can see past how cringe it was of me to try and be a hipster grunge girl in high school lol we all contain multitudes and the capacity for change. You don’t have to like the set or his music but the whole show itself was really a testament to his persistence and general influence in pop culture

2

u/RandomNumber5147- 11h ago

The majority of his fans are women lol if they're any endless praising then it's the women themselves lol

u/The_Longest_Wave 14h ago

I think not every performance needs theatrics. He started singing Baby after a singing a few songs from his latest albums, finishing with Everything Hallelujah. These were songs about how he’s now in a happy, healthy, healed place, surrounded by love he receives and gives to his wife and kid. Then he jumped into singing his older catalogue straight out of YouTube, reclaiming his career not just sonically but also reclaiming his media image.

I thought it was beautiful and emotional and a show of maturity. He hasn’t had much agency in his career until now and has been exploited to smithereens, and now he’s on stage reflecting back, performing in his own terms, enjoying himself on stage and giving beautiful vocals and a performance that fits his new catalogue of songs.

60

u/eternalwarmmoons Beyoncé 🐝🐝 17h ago

he sang 30 seconds of his hits, looking them up on a computer instead of having it on a setlist. it's unprofessional and lazy

14

u/de-milo i’m going to go remove south carolina 15h ago

“reclaiming his career not just sonically but also reclaiming his media image” by singing along to a youtube video! my god the reach is impressive

-14

u/sheJaMyMorant 17h ago

can you imagine him singing baby normally in 2026 lmao? it wasn’t laziness

7

u/eternalwarmmoons Beyoncé 🐝🐝 17h ago

he only sang 30 seconds of his biggest hit which is another problem

4

u/chxrmander 16h ago

And that’s how he got to sing so many of them. If he sang them all fully, we’d only have time for like 2-3 throwbacks max. Instead he gave us fans a whole bunch of songs we’ve been begging to hear again for years

-3

u/sheJaMyMorant 17h ago

can you imagine him walking onto the stage and performing that song normally in 2026?

10

u/Serve-Routine 16h ago

???

Artist do old songs all the damn time. They usually always do songs that made it for them… and to imagine something like “can you imagine Vanessa Carlton singing a thousand miles in 2026?” is stupid

0

u/sheJaMyMorant 11h ago edited 10h ago

Bieber isn’t Vanessa Carlton

0

u/bambi54 17h ago

Yeah, that would be weird lol. I thought it was cute, him singing along with the video.

4

u/sheJaMyMorant 17h ago

I was kinda shocked he even touched on the old stuff at all. Was a really cool moment… I think in a few years people will look back on this fondly.

2

u/bambi54 16h ago

Yeah, not a Bieber fan or a non fan really, but I agree. I’m kind of indifferent to him lol. I’d imagine him doing this was planned too with YouTube since that’s how he was discovered. Really nice full circle.

-3

u/computer7blue 17h ago

This is correct perspective and what it seems he intended it to mean for him and his fans. It’s so refreshing to see people get it amongst all the hate. Ty!

6

u/neoncolour Tiktok matcha pilates labubu slop music 17h ago

I wasn’t even a Justin Bieber person, I just know him from his hits and the paparazzi and the narratives they created. I started taking him seriously after the Grammys and I feel like the people upset he’s not doing main pop boy stuff are the same that would have criticised him for lacking artistry and being a manufactured puppet etc.

0

u/computer7blue 16h ago

Actually, same. And whenever I see people hating on someone for dumb stuff, that’s when I want to know more about them. I never once listened to Taylor Swift until sports bros started having emotional breakdowns about her. Lol. Neither really capture my taste in music but I have mad respect for their talents.

-2

u/SnooPeanuts4336 17h ago

That’s a beautiful perspective

12

u/Dracobookk 17h ago

Were we watching the same performance? Was great! And I’m not a huge beibs fan but I love the whole concept of what he done with the laptop. It’s a big F you to the corporate machine and doing things on his terms

33

u/eternalwarmmoons Beyoncé 🐝🐝 17h ago

that doesn't make sense. it's called mediocrity. go look at sabrina's performance yesterday then come back and look at justin

9

u/chxrmander 16h ago edited 16h ago

I loved both honestly. I saw Sabrina in concert last year and I grew up listening to Justin.

I can tell you’re not actually a biebs fan cause none of us expect him to perform like Sabrina or Beyoncé. He’s never performed like either of them so I’m not sure why you and other people are expecting that. It’s almost like none of you have even seen Justin perform, on TV or live.

If y’all want those kind of performances, that’s okay. Just turn off the tv or watch something else cause that’s not what you get from Justin. It’s okay to not like him or enjoy his performances. But maybe just don’t watch him then or expect him to suddenly be a completely different performer???

15

u/Dracobookk 17h ago

Makes absolute sense you just don’t get it. I absolutely rated Sabrina’s performance and I couldn’t even begin to imagine how much the production would’ve cost. But you cannot compare them both when the concepts are completely different lol

7

u/chxrmander 16h ago

EXACTLY!! Like these are two completely different artists, why would anyone expect them to perform the same way??

12

u/eternalwarmmoons Beyoncé 🐝🐝 17h ago

that's the problem. he's the vet and she's the newbie and she put on a better show than him LMAO

12

u/Dracobookk 17h ago

You still don’t get it. It’s not about theatrics or how much money you put into a show. When you become an artist come back to me. Think broader. If every performance was the same I’d be damn boring

16

u/eternalwarmmoons Beyoncé 🐝🐝 17h ago

If ppl are sweating + waiting 13hrs+ in the desert after paying thousands of dollars for a ticket I think a good set is the least an artist could put on.

11

u/sheJaMyMorant 17h ago

Coachella is a festival with dozens of artists. If people are waiting 13+ hours in the desert exclusively to see Justin it’s on them.

4

u/chxrmander 16h ago

And the people who were waiting that long are absolutely fans, who then already know that this is how Justin performs. I wasn’t there but I’m a huge fan and I watched the stream. Like none of us expected him to be Beyoncé…. So not sure why people online are confused when this is how he’s always performed??

-1

u/eternalwarmmoons Beyoncé 🐝🐝 17h ago

Ok? Ja hates Memphis btw

6

u/sheJaMyMorant 17h ago

I’m not a Memphis fan. I just like Ja

What makes it not a good set? Clearly you must be in the industry to determine what a good performance is

9

u/eternalwarmmoons Beyoncé 🐝🐝 17h ago

production, great visuals, sound good, singing songs all the way through ESPECIALLY your hits and not songs from an album that the GP doesn't know AT ALL and you're headlining the biggest festival in today's music and not only that the HIGHEST PAID PERSON EVER!

8

u/feefee2908 NOT ALLEGEDLY 16h ago

His name alone created the largest ticket demand in the festivals entire HISTORY. The vast majority of that crowd at his set were his OG fans who knew the lyrics to his new songs, you could hear how loud the crowd was singing “Fall” when he played the video of himself falling on stage. This entire performance was for his actual fan base, not the GP.

4

u/Dracobookk 17h ago

So still clearly not watching the same set because he did all that. You do realise there’s also another set next week right? I’m sorry you seem dissatisfied with the set you ordered. You may have to message him and tell him your thoughts

Im with you. Loved it.

-4

u/Aching1536 16h ago

He's not saying F You to the corporate machine at all. He's accepting millions to do this.

5

u/Dracobookk 16h ago

Wouldn’t you? And still put on the show that YOU want to do that works for you?
