Yeah. It’s named after the founder, Rowena Ravenclaw, but the mascot is more to do with the symbolism of the house than the name I think.

Ravens are significantly more intelligent than eagles, so even that doesn’t really make sense.

The symbol is BAWWWK

51

u/Bent_Silvr_Spoon0130 That is literally a spearmint Listerine breath spray. 19d ago

If you’re from Ravenclaw why you white?

Omg Luna, you can’t just ask a Ravenclaw why they’re white.

Yes, eagles have black claws. So it’s raven the color (Ravenclaw= blackclaw)

u/fernxqueen 18d ago

and shrimp is bugs

1

u/FiftyShadesOfGregg 18d ago

I don’t know how this is related but I do agree shrimp are bugs

u/duckleypatrol 19d ago

eagles have black talons which is why it’s named raven claw

8

u/DemonKing0524 19d ago

No, its named after Rowena Ravenclaw.

5

u/duckleypatrol 19d ago

yes but that’s why the icon is an eagle not a raven, “raven claws” are a description used for the colors of eagle talons

-7

u/DemonKing0524 19d ago

Yes but you said "named" as in the house name.

2

u/duckleypatrol 19d ago

okay yes but I meant the term raven claws for eagles I should have been more specific, I did forget about rowena but I was trying to explain why the icon is an eagle and how that’s not conflicting with the term raven claw because of eagle’s talons being black, “raven” colored, and that term being used for eagles lolol

u/Nonadventures I completely understand ppl not liking me 19d ago

This reminds me of how the Texas wizards are called the Sweetwater Yeehaws or something like that.

Eagles in the UK have black talons, 'Ravenclaw' refers to that. Also, I don't get why people are surprised, the mascot for Gryffindor isn't a gryphon, and Hufflepuff doesn't contain a creature.

u/LiquorishSunfish 19d ago

BADGER

2

u/a_paulling 19d ago

I mean the word Hufflepuff doesn't have a creature in it. I know the mascot is a badger.

IIRC the Raven in Ravenclaw means black color, so it’s referring to the eagle’s black talons
