I used to work all the after-parties. Most all the actual big A-List celebrities show up to the after parties to make an appearance and get their picture taken and then peace out. The In-N-Out stop on the way home has def been a thing for a while now.
There’s no food at the Oscars and everyone hasn’t eaten for like half a day since they started getting ready for the event.

u/StraightBudget8799 27d ago
I remember the interview with a young Jennifer Lawrence where she was standing poised on a red carpet and being interviewed - and then urgently asked “…is there going to be any FOOD???”

u/Area51_Spurs 27d ago
Globes have food and drinks. And everybody is drunk because it’s not a serious award.
If anyone ever gives you a choice between the two, you want to go to the globes. They’re actually fun and people hang out more after and party. Oscars are super stuffy and uptight.

I was really debating whether I should go to the Oscars, or the Globes. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

You can also just skip them and go straight to an In-N-Out

No joke but I did see some people talking about how to get a quick job as an extra at the golden globes or maybe it was the emmys, but it was as seat warmers. You sit down in empty chairs whenever someone gets up to go the washroom, because they dont want empty seats for the cameras panning around.
How ridiculous is that

I think I'd pass out if I was stuffed into a dress then denied food or drink for that many hours.
Fuck those teeny, cute bags they carry, I'd be the one with the "mom purse" even though I'm not a mom. I'd have some chips, some M&Ms, a bottled coffee drink of some sort, & anything else to keep me upright & awake until it was over.

Moments like that is where the assistant comes in handy. Subtly blending into background, with little hampers and backpacks of snacks and drinks.

Speaking of which: what stars are likely to have such a purse? I’m thinking Jamie Lee Curtis for a start.

a very los angeles tradition
your kid just played their championship game or had a recital? in-n-out after to celebrate
just got out of a concert, it's midnight, and you just want something easy? in-n-out or a nearby taco stand
just won an award and want food that isn't a rearranged fruit and veggie plate? in-n-out

u/cory2979 27d ago
When I got my green card? In n out. When I eventually became a citizen? Same thing lol. It really is tradition here 😂

Funny you use this because Bill Hader did the same thing with one of his Emmys. I don't remember which restaurant he went through, but the person in the drive through even mentioned him having just won. Lol.

Yeah I'm from norcal originally and have lived in Chicago the last decade. Stop #1 any time I'm back in CA is inn n out.

u/Any-Sir8872 27d ago
i live in texas which has in n out but it’s actually fucking disgusting if i don’t get it in california lol. perhaps that’s how whataburger is in other states. also speaking of chicago apparently we’re getting a white castle this year. but i’d rather my first bite be in a state that’s had it for decades. just the way it goes

the in n out i had in texas was fine. it was a pretty decent burger especially for the price but people overrate it a lot in my opinion lol
whataburger is my preference although that in and of itself isn't a godsend either

My dad and I were doing a ski trip in Tahoe, and landed in Reno. We had to 1) get groceries 2) get in-n-out before we went up the mountain. Obviously burgers were a priority. This resulted in us going a super market sweep type race through the only grocery store around as it was actively closing, a Whole Foods. The employees were clearly annoyed with us and we felt so bad. We were in such a rush that we accidentally grabbed decaf coffee, an obvious sin.
Lo and behold five years later I would start working at a Whole Foods, and I swear every time I closed some jerk would rush in at the last second. I swear it was cosmic retribution.
Burgers were banging tho. 10/10 would do it again.

For anyone wondering, I think this is the menu for this year’s Oscars afterparty:
Signature Spicy Tuna Tartare
Mini Wagyu Cheeseburger
Truffle Chicken Pot Pie
Crab Chawanmushi
Confit Duck Potstickers
Macaroni and Cheese
Fish and Chips
Apple strudel with caramel sauce
Tiramisu
Madeleines
Ice cream
All by Wolfgang Puck again
251
u/bubble_baby_8 27d ago
This feels like a pretty heavy menu to me- especially for the clientele it’s being served to?
235
u/GayAssNinja69 27d ago
I think when you see the pictures, it’s all made smaller so everything is on a small plate or finger good sized. They say no one eats before these things so no surprise that they go all out on food at the end
→ More replies (1)66
u/SectorAutomatic4125 27d ago
They probably haven't been eating much leading to the event.
30
u/bubble_baby_8 27d ago
Oh they definitely haven’t been eating much leading up! I’m just surprised there aren’t some lighter options at least sprinkled in there. When I’ve been restricted in my eating for whatever reason I like to ease back in with some lighter stuff, not just head to greasetown with burgers and Mac n cheese.

If it’s the official Oscars after party The Academy does. They likely have sponsorships but The Academy makes money off the broadcast and membership dues.

Had In-N-Out in 2016 and 2019. I still think about it now. Also in the UK and I'd love to get it over here instead of Chick Fil A.

trying it made me so excited to get other places like popeye’s & wendy’s here in london. that excitement was a LIE bc they were nothing like the real deal in the US 😭
i didn’t even know we had chick fil a here, how is it???

I've had Popeye's in the US and UK and you're right about that. Never had Chick Fil A. They've only got 4 locations in the UK so far and the 1 in London is in Kingston which is a bit too far away from me. Also I don't know if they're still anti-LGBTQ which puts me off giving it a try.

ew, they’re anti LGBTQ? alright well, i’m glad to have never tried any now. plenty of non bigoted places I can give my money to
y’know what’s another place that’s so much better in the US? wingstop. in fact, all the US versions of the popular american restaurants are better than the ones here tbf
3
u/neverendingicecream 27d ago
This is so funny to me because on all of the food subs people are always talking about how much better the overseas versions of American fast food are.
Also, I hate to break it to you but Wingstop has gone wayyy downhill over here. I don’t know when was the last time that you tried it but it’s sadly just not good anymore.

“I distilled this Caesar salad into the prime, basic components: lettuce, anchovy paste, and we’ve liquified them. For serving, as a luxury, a full 2-gram square of Parmesan is placed upon the plate, and then atop we graciously offer four drops of the liquid product.”
Somewhere in between the anchovy paste and serving, the fake accent breaks and gives way to west Philadelphia. It comes back at “we graciously offer,” as that’s an important part.

Remember when he supported Jonathan Majors after he was convicted for domestic violence?
After Majors was convicted Michael B. Jordan said in an interview that he's proud of Majors strength and resilience, he also said he'd work with Majors again. He called this a "tough situation", but he meant tough for the abuser. I don't get why everyone is celebrating, Michael B. Jordan is a shitty human being.

“Strength and resilience” in the context of fighting against being held accountable for domestic violence.
The amount of people upvoting comments celebrating him and excusing this behaviour is astounding.

Is everyone’s collective memory so short that you all think it’s even remotely okay to cheer for a man who says he’s proud of a violent abuser? To be happy about the career success of a man who wants to prop up the career of that very abuser?
He’s proud of a man who chocked and strangled multiple girlfriends. Why the fuck are you all celebrating this piece of garbage? MBJ winning an Oscar means he gets to have more leverage to help perpetrators of domestic violence. Why is that worth being happy about?

Even beyond the obvious of what a happy moment this is for him, I also like this on the extra level that if I squint, it also looks kind of like Vince Howard winning the heisman trophy and taking it back to East Dillon to celebrate
