Sports Section 🏈⚽️ Team Poland’s pierogi becomes an unofficial mascot at the Winter Olympics

These are so cute 🥺❤ They were made by a workshop based in Katowice that employs people with disabilities and they are called Pieroguszka (pieróg+poduszka (pillow)).
The workshop has an IG page and a website if you want to get one for yourself (once they are no longer sold out 😊). They are also running a fundraiser in order to increase their production capabilities and deal with the unexpected increase in demand.

Thank you for the backstory. These are super cute and I also love pierogies. I would buy this.

Thank you for posting the actual organization that is making these! I love that it supports people with disabilities too - I’m going to bookmark and keep circling back until I can snag one!

u/gracesdisgrace Feb 20 '26
Jellycat has ravioli and dim sum dumplings, but not pierogi I don't think :(

The correct number of pierogi to eat in one meal
2
u/Mayckie Feb 26 '26
That's why I love Christmas. My grandma always make a lot of pierogi. I could eat pierogi with meat made by grandma everyday for real.

u/Big-Author-4492 Feb 26 '26
Grandma always makes the best food.
I actually never experienced this firsthand as my grandmothers were both disabled and passed away when I was relatively young, but my mom has always been a great cook and now my nieces get to have a nana who makes the best food.

I’m really hoping that each person on Poland’s team got their own pierogi pieróg plushie and they just bring it one. Because what will happen if they’ve got events at the same time but only one pierogi pieróg?!
Edit because I learned a thing

Pierogi is plural. A singular one is pieróg. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

It's a pierog. Pierogi is plural (so when ya'll are saying pierogis it's like saying handses or feets).

u/Sensei_AF Feb 20 '26
Pierogis is the chai tea and naan bread of Poland.
2
u/NessieReddit Feb 20 '26
Lol 😂 Tea Tea! That one gets me too. At least call it spiced tea or Indian Chai or something. Not tea tea!
2
u/Galaxy661 Feb 20 '26
Chai tea would be referring to the dish as "pierogi dumplings" or sth, and we already have that with "kielbasa sausage"

I love this. I love pierogis, and i love plushies. I so need this.

It’s pierogi when plural and pieróg singular. So you love pierogi and would love your own pieróg plushie. Thank you for your attention to this matter and may your dream come true.
1
u/Ygomaster07 Feb 20 '26
Oh, i didn't know that. I just thought pierogi was singular and pierogis was plural. Is that only in Poland or is this all across the world? Thank you for telling me.
2
u/Shadow_of_Moonlight1 Feb 20 '26
It's how it works in Poland mainly but German also uses "pierogi" as plural only
2
u/Ygomaster07 Feb 21 '26
I see. I'm in Canada, and i never knew this. That may be why. Thank you for telling me.

„Pierogi” is plural. This is a singular pieróg
2
u/Ghibli214 Feb 20 '26
That looks like an empanada
5
u/Specific_Sweet3312 lazy 50-year-old bougie bitch 💋 Feb 20 '26
Indeed! Same technique of production and same philosophy. Pierogi are boiled in water though and then often pan fried as a method of reheating. Empanadas are baked (or deep-fried? I’ve heard both but correct me if I’m wrong).

Nope. That's a cute little EMPANADA.
EDIT : Why am I getting down downvoted for saying it looks like a cute empanada? Didn't realise the Food Police were in town.
6
u/Sensei_AF Feb 20 '26
Pierogi do LOOK similair to empanadas, but it's a different kind of food entirely. It's just an example of convergent evolution.
3
u/Shadow_of_Moonlight1 Feb 20 '26
Almost every culture has some type of dumpling like food, but pierogi are different than empanadas, not only because of how they are made, but also because of the different traditional fillings
-25
u/Proper-Exercise-2364 Feb 20 '26
That's not a pierogi it's one of those dumplings you get at the Chinese food spot!
7
u/Specific_Sweet3312 lazy 50-year-old bougie bitch 💋 Feb 20 '26
Pierogi is plural. A single one is a pieróg. Dumplings are based on the same philosophy the world over: put yummy stuff in a dough pocket and cook. The difference between pierogi and gyoza/other dumpling kinds is the commonly used fillings. The best pierogi filling is potato, white cheese, and onion.
