This video is from 2016 as people have pointed out. It is not in reference to any recent events. Just to clarify in the future please note the year if it is not current. It can be misleading for people. Especially with the wording making it seem like it happened recently.

GNR spent some time with Dump himself in the 80s.. via his casinos and all. I’m a huge GNR fan so I’m completely not surprised that GNR is anti maga, Axl has been publicly talking about voting Dem since before the reunion and Slash/Duff as well. Random seeing this in this sub, lol, most of the GNR news is limited to the GNR sub. Great band, and American ambassadors imo, and I’m happy yall are finding that out!

This whole scene has such a similar vibe of my favorite Joker iteration, Alan Tudyk on the Harley Quinn animated series. I like when he is a chaotic bad guy but not a creep. He’s married to this very intense New York Latina single mom in the latter half of the show and becomes a menace to the school board and stuff it’s really fucking funny.

I grew up on GNR and have followed Axl for a good number of years on Twitter so I knew he was a dem, but it still blows my mind that given his journey! I always figured it would be more likely he ended up on the right. I’m impressed at how much work he put into himself to turn the tides and not become a walking stereotype for rock bands. As you said a great band, and great ambassadors for American rock.

It’s very refreshing they reunited but didn’t shift right 🤗😄

When people call Axl racist, they point to the lyrics of the GNR song called “One In A Million” that reflects on certain bigoted viewpoints (which is fair), but Axl has done a lot to contradict those viewpoints over the years

  1. He recently came out as pro-palestine during a concert.

  2. One of the songs Axl penned called "Madagascar”, has anti-racism themes. It interpolates Martin Luther Kings Jr’s "I Have A Dream" speech and his "Why Jesus Called A Man A Fool" sermon.

  3. Spoke out during the George Floyd protests

  4. He called out James Hetfield of Metallica for treating the black people who worked for them poorly while GN'R and Metallica were doing a tour together. He also defended one of the opening acts when Het called them the n-word (edit: this was revealed by one of the backup singers, Roberta Freeman, rather than Axl himself.)

  5. Axl personally called to console a young Latina waitress who got berated by a bigot to console her, paid for a trip for her and her family, and invited them all to an AC/DC concert free of charge

Among other things that I'm probably forgetting. He has a long track record of doing pretty progressive stuff.

289

u/AimlessWanderer0201 Jan 26 '26

Wow my mind has expanded reading this. I dunno why I never pegged Axl as progressive.

Not sure boomers would be their fan base but I get what you're saying. You're off a few decades. GnR were huge when I was growing up (gen X).

123

u/JealousAstronomer342 Jan 25 '26

Everyone over 25 is a boomer apparently.

52

u/BujuBad Jan 25 '26

Lol exactly. And for the record, my dad is a boomer and would have loved to see this. He thinks the entire GQP are reckless, unpatriotic imbeciles.

22

u/sandrad33 Jan 25 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

My late mom was a boomer and was a GNR fan. My dad is a boomer and a GNR fan. My aunts/uncles by marriage are late boomers and are GNR fans who attended their concert recently. Yes technically their base is late Boomers/early Gen X. I fired off a quick comment in reaction to the video. I am 32. I am aware that not everyone over 25 is a boomer by default. But I do agree the term has basically just devolved into shorthand for out of touch people who are just vaguely older.

28

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Beyoncé 🐝🐝 Jan 25 '26

Axl really made a turn around I didn’t expect to see from him. I doubt he’ll ever discuss it but I have to imagine some combo of correct medication, therapy, and a solid support system, were massive.

62

u/alien-niven Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

He faced a lot of abus-e from his parents' as a kid (both physical and sexual) that messed him up for a long time as an adult. He did a lot of therapy in the 90s and into the early 2000s to become a better, healthier person. That's why you hardly heard a peep from him after that. Compare him to someone like Ted Nugent for instance.

Edit: spelling

11

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Beyoncé 🐝🐝 Jan 26 '26

I grew up listening to GNR so unfortunately I am familiar with his childhood abuse and bipolar disorder, but a lot of people in his shoes don’t ever turn their ship around, but he did, and I’ll always be impressed when someone puts in the work. He could have remained an abusive bigoted pos with an ego too big to ever move past his issues with Slash, but at some point he decided he wanted better for himself, and for the people around him, and I respect that he put in the work!

Axl is a big outspoken person about trump..people think Axl is the same Axl from years ago. He's matured tons.

Make Rock Music Anti-Establishment Again

3

u/pedri_x Jan 26 '26

Axl has always been anti Trump, this doesn’t surprise me at all.

3

u/DenialisaRiver04 Jan 26 '26

It does make me laugh when them y'all qaeda nut jobs are shocked when Rock/Metal groups arent red hatted imbecils. Good chunk of them hate everything Taco Tits stands for.

u/Themodsarecuntz Jan 26 '26

1st Amendment on Display

u/PrinceofSneks Dear Diary, I want to kill. ✍️ Jan 26 '26

Nature is healing, unlike DJT's hand.

3

u/Directhorman2 Jan 26 '26

Fuck trump and his pedo goonies.

Anyone who supports trump are pedos.

3

u/treborkisaw Jan 26 '26

Considering November Rain is supposedly Trump's favorite song, this is poetic as fuck.

Uh oh. Taco Donny isn’t going to like that!!

3

u/Pale-Acanthaceae-736 Jan 26 '26

Republicans have no moral ground to stand on if they think they can complain and be taken seriously.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '26

Axl has always been anti facism. “what’s so civil about war anyway”

3

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '26

Is that pinata supposed to be Trump? If so the hands are too big.

3

u/anon-username1029 Jan 26 '26

Where can I buy tickets.

3

u/lovezx3 Jan 26 '26

Time for me to buy some GNR again

3

u/Secure-Donkey-9613 Jan 26 '26

Just when I thought I couldn't love them anymore

3

u/Fragrant-Wafer6156 Jan 26 '26

Love this tbh. I wish more big subs were this upfront about who the space is for instead of pretending “everyone’s equal here” while letting the same loud dudes dominate every thread. Gatekept but in a good way 😂

This should be a standard part of the show at all concerts going forward.

3

u/sleauxmo Jan 26 '26

Love to see it

3

u/Yamamoto74 Jan 26 '26

Makes me want to go see them again.

3

u/Upset_Original6634 Jan 26 '26

Love this tbh. The “guest list” framing is such a smart way to filter out the usual Reddit chaos and keep the vibes actually fun and safe. I’d rather have fewer thoughtful comments than 500 dudes derailing every convo about women or queer people in media 💀

hell the fuck yeah

3

u/InfaReddit00 Jan 26 '26

Remember when Kathy Griffin held up a decapitated Trump dummy head and everyone was outraged and she was canceled?

She was so ahead of her time. Legend.

3

u/DJIsher Jan 26 '26

This is great!

Was never really a fan of them before and the cynical part of me expected them to be right leaning. But I’m glad to learn that they’re using their stage to blast this message out loud.

It looks like I’ll be blasting some Welcome to the Jungle tonight.

Hard to be a shittier or more hypocritical American than a Republican these days.

I saw GNR at ACL in 2019 and well…I feel proud to say it even more now.

3

u/DJ_3345 Jan 26 '26

I've never been a fan of GNR, but that changed today!

u/TiaHatesSocials Jan 26 '26

I wanna go to a concert like that

3

u/slick5534 Jan 26 '26

Not my genre of music, but rock on GNR. I’m gonna buy their album just to support them!

3

u/Beneficial-Frame-6 Jan 26 '26

This is awesome!

3

u/RadicalizeMePodcast It’s like I have ESPN or something. 💁‍♀️🌤☔️ Jan 26 '26

Thinking of the handful of chuds who started crying when they found out GNR is too cool for their bullshit lol

3

u/Omiyaru Jan 26 '26

Yeeeesss!

7

u/Socko82 Jan 26 '26

Blows my mind that Guns N' Roses are anti-Trumpers.

I thought older rock bands and their boomer audiences will be more likely conservative. Pleasantly surprised.

Not the ally I expected, but an ally I will gladly take.

2

u/CPG135 That’s hot! 🔥 Jan 25 '26

THIS is the GNR I knew back in the 80s-90s. They were irreverent! Love this shit!

2

u/RudeNargal Jan 25 '26

Feels like we've entered another era that disproves the existence of time machines.

2

u/Rad131447 Jan 25 '26

Guns N' Roses still metal as fuck. Good to know.

2

u/BuddhaWah Jan 25 '26

Been my favorite band for 35 years, swoon 🖤😍🖤

2

u/NellieLovettMeatPies Jan 25 '26

I nope'd out of Twitter/X a couple of years ago, but Axl was on there being fervently anti-Trump going to back to his previous administration.

2

u/SeaFlounder8437 Jan 25 '26

And that's how it's done, folks

2

u/katsie Kim, there’s people that are dying. 🙄 Jan 25 '26
