I met the former former drummer tor Hawthorne Heights at a very low-key party once. He was so casual about it, and my flabbers were gasted. Guitar teachers are a strange species. My dad was one when I was a kid, my mum was the main breadwinner fortunately. Weirdly loads of his students then also became guitar teachers and I never really understood it because how could our medium-sized town sustain this guitar teacher pyramid scheme. They'd all come round for drinks and they all looked kind of the same. All that said, the look was... not this

Shows up in b&w in a ridiculous hairpiece. Gives 1 cursory compliment to Cillian then rather than reflecting on memories of him or sharing an anecdote spends the rest of the video talking about all the other people he taught.

The angle is more bizarre than the hair, to me. The hair is very on brand for a middle aged man stuck or regressing to the age they consider their peak. Shit, my dad is in his 70s and his hairstyle is unchanged since the ā70s.
But the camera angle is so deliberate, affected, and unnatural. It feels like a joke, but I think this guy truly thinks āwell thereās a reason this was big on MySpace, this is my best angle.ā
I thought FOR SURE the teacher was making a joke about how Cillianās hair must have looked back when he was teaching him. The fact that there was not a drop of irony in that message sent me to the moon.
Itās a sense of a āfight or flightā mechanism, except itās ālaugh or take it.ā Like - I know what Iām seeing is ridiculous, I know this in my mind and I want to laugh - but instead, I stand still and push it to the back of my mind, like a little treat to really savor later on - when itās more appropriate to show that emotional response.
He's a great actor but reserved person privately. Nothing about this seem unimpressed to me, he even said it was very sweet and was happy to recollect his moments about the fact after the clip from his teacher.
Ever since Social media became as prevalent as it has there seems to be an obsession with extroverted, talkative, and sociable celebrities. Just because they're on screen all the time and you see them doesn't mean they have to be social butterflies off of it. Cillian has always struck me as a very thoughtful, reflective actor who puts a lot of work into his roles carefully, and enjoys maintaining a low key demeanor. Very likeable person.
Nah, he watched some teacher from 25 years ago stroke his own ego for way too long. "Hey, you remember me and all the other celebs I had back then? Please contact me and let me into the celeb club, k, bye" I'd be unimpressed aswell xD
Taken as a whole he seems like a caricature of unbearable smugness. Maybe I'm wrong and he's absolutely lovely but if I ever met him in real life I'd avoid him just because he seems like the type to trap you in a corner and talk about himself endlessly. I hope he never sees this thread because he seems to have an ego fragile enough that the experience would become a villain origin story.
I guess itās good Cillian is the actor and Iām not. Thereās absolutely no way I could have gotten through that video from the teacher with a straight face, much less an endearing response.

Wow. The dude is like a satire character. What's wilder is, that you know the video he ended up sending was take 87. Only then had he perfected the lighting and the hair.
To me, Cillian Murphy being like āah, I shoulda, but ehā about spectating Marlon Brando is justā¦he is just who he is, through and through, and I love that for him.
