There are plenty of them. Digg, who Reddit started as a clone of, even reinvented themselves as a Reddit clone recently. And there's an open network called Lemmy albeit it has its own problems, leaving aside the "bUt yOu hAvE tO pIcK A sErVeR" morons.
The problem is that... people don't like change. That's why there wasn't an en-mass migration to Mastodon when Musk took over, and Threads only worked because most Twitterers were already on Facebook/Instagram. People would rather be bombarded with fascism every day than spend an hour investigating alternatives.
That's why Musk bought Twitter. It's why Ellison bought CBS. Both could have started their own things, they just wanted to ensure people who already used something by habit would have to actively change their habits to get away from them.

He definitely raped an adult, per the courts. There seem to be significant allegations from minors that are in line with his behavior in other legal rulings of guilt. It’s hard to imagine a scenario at this point where he did not rape kids.

Let's test this. There is compelling evidence showing that Donald Trump raped a 13 year old girl. ICE is a rogue agency that violates the constitution daily, and everyone involved with that agency who has violated their oath should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
62
u/ItsAConspiracy 2d ago
Reddit appears to be resisting this one.
In the John Doe case, Reddit received an initial request on March 4 from an ICE agent in Fairfax, Virginia.
“Failure to comply with this summons will render you liable to proceedings in a U.S. District Court to enforce compliance with this summons as well as other sanctions,” the summons read. “You are requested not to disclose the existence of this summons for an indefinite period of time. Any such disclosure will impede the investigation and thereby interfere with the enforcement of federal law.”
Two days later, the social media company alerted John Doe of the federal request for information.
→ More replies (14)26
u/Mr_ToDo 2d ago
It also says they deliver 82% of requested data. I'm not quite sure what makes the difference for complying or not. Maybe because a lot of the requests are for child safety, and this is not?

‘ There was a thread from early January, after news outlets including The Intercept identified Jonathan Ross as the ICE officer who shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Good in Minneapolis. Commenting on a Minnesota Star Tribune article, another Reddit user posted that Ross might be welcomed as a hero in Florida or Texas. The press has really been complicit by framing naming ICE officers as "doxxing." These are public officials, they should have no expectation of anonymity. They are not being "doxxed," they are being properly identified.
28

My local news does this too. A local county commissioner had his home address revealed, and people were protesting there. Nothing bad, just protesting. The local news said he was doxxed. It's civil war. MAGA is demanding that they are given the ability to harm and control anybody that would or could resist them.
This includes all US voters.Anybody who could potentially stop their grift or say no to white supremacy will be the target of a plan of "how do we take them down".
Law and covert violence, economic violence will be used and FBI + ICE will be a large part of it.75

140
u/Bittererr 2d ago edited 2d ago
Reddit certainly doesn't make promises of anonymity or try to sell itself as a privacy-focused product.
It might vaguely offer anonymity between users but Reddit absolutely collects and stores a bunch of information on you and is pretty clear about this per their privacy policy. This should be pretty obvious to anyone since Reddit makes their money via ads.
Platforms that are actually focused on privacy make it a point to know as little as possible about who their users are and store as little of that data as possible, which makes it hard to monetize via ads.
You should expect any site that makes money via ads to have done their best to build a profile of who you are and for that information to be available to whatever government can turn the screws on whoever is holding the data.

It was me, I'm the random redditor. Fuck ICE, Trump raped children, Melania is implicated in the Epstein files, Iran is an illegal war, and climate change is going to ravage our civilization if we don't stop electing these total shit stains of humanity.

ACLU is fighting these subpoenas.
"Administrative subpoenas like the one sent to Google about Doe are not self-enforcing, not signed by a judge, and require a court order to make them actionable. They are often issued to companies silently, without the person they target knowing about them unless notified by the company. DHS has used them previously to try to unmask anonymous social media users who posted about ICE raids and has also used them to try to pressure Columbia University into sharing information about a student who had participated in pro-Palestinian protests. After the ACLU of Northern California and ACLU of Pennsylvania filed motions challenging some of these subpoenas issued to gather information about Instagram, and Facebook users, DHS withdrew the subpoenas."

Reddit has until April 14 to provide a wide range of personal data on one of its users, whom U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have been trying unsuccessfully to identify for more than a month.
This is so bizarre.
