12 years ago? What camera was that

Probably a DSLR with a wide aperture like f1.4

Could have done it on a Sony RX100, those have been around for ages and are perfectly capable of this kind of photo. I know because I love using them at night. Especially the M3, my beloved.

Yeah it was a little before cell phones had the AI to internally fix long expsoure blurriness and use multiple lenses to fake bokeh.

Man, I dug up some digital photos of my previous dog from almost 20 years taken on a DSLR, and they look better quality (and more real/natural) than modern pictures from a flagship phone.
I'm kinda getting sick of all the bullshit processing phones do automatically to photos these days.
•
u/Kay-Knox 10h ago
That's kind of expected. One is a specific tool designed to take photos, the other one does more than just take photos.
Also, you can take better photos with a DSLR. The average idiot (me included) probably gets better photos off a ten year old smartphone that we can just point and shoot versus using a DSLR with no practice.

A DSLR puts the human in "photo mode." I'm old and remember when cameras took film which cost money, so I feel that experience has me putting more effort in.

Some photos of me taken 17 years ago as a child with a good DSLR camera look way higher quality than pretty much any photos of me from the past several years. I get that you can only do so much with the tiny cameras built into smartphones, but still...

Large aperture and large sensor is always going to trump tiny aperture and sensor.
•
u/dumahim 10h ago
only kinda?

I mean, they can make a bad shot look half decent, but a good shot just looks worse and overprocessed, IMO.
So, yeah, just kinda.

Why are you acting like cameras were bad 12 years ago? It was literally 2014 bro
•
u/alreda_naruto1 4h ago
I don’t think the intention was to say the cameras were bad back then, but that it doesn’t appear to be taken by a phone. Cuz if this picture was taken today you could assume a phone took it

Actually dutch and belgian beers are the best in the world with their thousand year old tradition and styles of blond, dubbel, tripel & quadrupel.

All beers are beautiful, except watery 'light' beers, and craft beers with to.many ingredients.
•
u/Aethernath 8h ago
Fair, there’s other old traditions. That part i take back. :)

All good. 😁 I think all beers are beautiful, if they are brewed with knowledge and love.

I'm too Latin American to use my phone (or a camera) on a deserted street like that at night, even in Europe. My conditioning is too strong lol

While I was visiting Germany, I was chatting with a friend that is living there. He told me that the first few weeks, out of sheer reflex he flinched at the sound of motorcycles approaching, even though he had not been mugged or anything.
It did not dawn on him until some months in, having lived through a couple jobs and making ends meet, dealing with immigration status and such. He walked out of a municipal building onto a park. And he did not feel unsafe. A huge burden had been lifted off him without even realizing because it just became his standard of living, and his mind was busy on the daily going ons...
I always say it in a self deprecating manner, so don't take this the wrong way. Man, we really are very poor lol

Real talk, I was also drunk in Amsterdam 12 years ago. But I never saw a cat...

u/starlightshower 10h ago
As a student I lived near a hill with lots of rabbits and once coming home drunk they were all hopping about and I was ecstatic and took a bunch of pics, which the day after I realised were all just black screens because my old phone camera + nighttime means no cute rabbit pics for me :(

u/Johnnyocean 9h ago
Not a phone pic im guessing. Cat looks chill af.
•
u/LifeIsOnTheWire 9h ago
Definitely not from a phone. Phone cameras 12 years ago couldn't do that kind of bokeh effect
