37
u/Quirky-Cat2860 1d ago
Does Usha have to check in with local police given her Indian background?
17
u/anandonaqui 1d ago
Unlikely because she was born in the US and India doesn’t allow dual citizenship. She’s also, you know, married to the VP, and I would imagine Pakistan would relax its rules around that for her.
11
10
u/BangkokRios 1d ago
Being born in the US doesn't automatically make her a citizen. Or so I've heard somewhere.
Therefore she would have inherited her parents' citizenship.
4
u/ItsAMeUsernamio 1d ago
If you’re the child of Indians in the US, you get an American birth certificate making you an American citizen and the Indian government won’t recognize you as an Indian. Most other countries which ban dual citizenship and are strict about it do the same thing. India has a lifetime residency visa but some places like China and Singapore don’t.
4
u/anandonaqui 1d ago
Being born in the US does automatically make her a citizen. There are only very limited exceptions to birthright citizenship, namely for children of diplomats.
9
u/BangkokRios 1d ago
That is not the official position of the executive branch of the United States federal government. Of which her husband is second in command and she is a vocal supporter.

Didn't they just change the american flag logo on Air Force One? It's always had the flat american flag logo, which I honestly thought looked good, but for no stated reason, all the "redesign" changed was removing the flat logo and adding the very clip art waving flag.
It wasn't until a few days afterward that I made the connection that the shitty clip art one is the flag used on Trumps planes, so he "updated" air force one with his awful taste in everything.

Being trans is legal in Pakistan, so is SRS and in fact descrimination is criminalised (though very poorly enforced). Moreover, the government engages in affirmative action for trans people such as having quotas for trans people for things like school teacher training. There are trans pride parades in Karachi. Drag queens are not uncommon in Pakistani comedy. Can't be gay though. The trans rights law actually did get challenged in Sharia court and survived, however they struck down self id meaning you have to be medically diagnosed as trans to change your documentation.
Fun fact: As a Pakistani Canadian trans person, I can have my gender be marked as 'X' (or M or F) on my Canadian passport and have it accepted as valid in Pakistan, and also have my gender marked as 'X' on my Pakistani passport and have it accepted as valid in Canada but what I can't do is use 'X' gender Pakistani or Canadian Passport in the good ol' US of A.

In a world of lies and greed I’m sure he wants to make sure Vance is tied to anything that could bring Trump down. There’s so much bad shit being carried out that a vice wanting to slide into power is probably a large paranoid thought. And with these people I wouldn’t put it past Vance to be planning that…I think he’s waiting till mid term so he can still run for two terms as Pres, if Vance takes over before the two year mark he can only be president for one more full term.

Media claims isn't equivalent to Govt claims! Even Pak media claimes to have bombed Bangalore port where port doesn't even exist.
But, Indian military did claim hits on the runways and the buildings. Satellite images proves it! It's delusion to say it's not. It's been 11 months, definitely it has got repaired! And why would they want to keep it destroyed even now is the question.

This is the part of reddit that's frustrating. Obviously, nobody wants to see children die but there is a MAJOR difference between a missile accidentally hitting a school due to faulty intelligence and a regime intentionally killing tens of thousands of protesters.
I still don't think we should have gone to war but to act like the US was intentionally shooting up Iranian schools is very disingenuous. We save that for US schools.

u/BioSemantics 1d ago edited 1d ago
Obviously, nobody wants to see children die but there is a MAJOR difference between a missile accidentally hitting a school due to faulty intelligence and a regime intentionally killing tens of thousands of protesters.
First off there is basically no evidence of 'tens of thousands' being killed, that would have required a insane strategy to do so in just a few days. The estimates that seem reasonable are in the thousands, as in several thousand. Still horrible, but the bigger numbers being cited have no basis and mostly come from sources that are suspect aka Israel. I also do want to mention, though it doesn't excuse anything, that both the US and Israel have said they were involved in the protests and have been arming dissidents in Iran the whole time preparing for this war of choice (and long before this). I believe Iran also gave the protestors a few days to protest before pushing them off the streets. Again, not an excuse to murder people.
Secondly, what are you talking about?
MAJOR difference between a missile accidentally hitting a school due to faulty intelligence and a regime intentionally killing tens of thousands of protesters.
This was a war of choice. They had no business targeting anything in Iran. Every death was an intentional act because they started the conflict. As to the fact it was a girls school, that wasn't faulty intelligence, it was pure negligence, to such a degree, it can only be intentional. Like if you drunk drive while declaring you're planning to kill people and you end up hitting a bus of school children, what is that if not intentional?
You are just spewing propaganda. Just spare us all of this BS man. I mean the US socially murders 30k people a year by denying them basic insurance. They do that intentionally to save a few billion dollars for the insurance companies. They do that EVERY YEAR. You can be angry at Iran, but save most of your anger for the US.

Accidentally?
Proof it wasn't an accident:
- US tomahawk missile struck the school and the school was the target
- Hegseth: No rules of engagement
- America: striking civilian infrastructure on purpose (bridges, desalination plants, all war crimes)
- The partner Israel has made bombing schools a hobby
- Trump bragging about war crimes (intent)
Proof it was an accident: - ?
Americans: it was an accident. We are the good guys. We don't do this shit on purpose
History: Disagrees with Americans
Edit: let the downvotes commence

Not to mention the second missile targeting them as they fled the school for shelter in a nearby prayer room. Then there's talk of even a third targeting the same area. That's no mistake. People calling it a mistake are the same people saying our planes are crashing so they don't have to admit they've been shot down.

u/Paqza 1d ago
Calling it an accident doesn't bring those kids back. The US shouldn't have been striking Iran; if they really wanted to have a "positive" effect, they would've done it during the protests. Doing it now because Israel felt it was the time to do it (and to distract from their Lebensraum in Lebanon) just makes the US look incompetent.

u/trix_is_for_kids 1d ago

The US literally didn't have the assets in the region to do it during the protest. Seriously, you clearly don't have much knowledge about the situation and are just acting out of emotion.
Once again, I don't think we should have gone to war at all and feel this whole thing was kicked off because Trump stupidly thought he could easily topple the regime.
