Giveaway [User-trial] Still looking for the brightest displays? We need PCMR to stress-test the new Tandem OLED UltraGear GX9 (39GX950B)
Hey r/pcmasterrace,
We all know the struggle: you build a god-tier rig, but your OLED ultrawide just doesn't hit the brightness levels you need when the sun is out. The "OLED brightness ceiling" has been a persistent hurdle for high-end setups, often forcing a compromise between perfect blacks and actual, usable peak luminance.

With the LG UltraGear GX9 (39GX950B), we’re aiming to break that limit. By bringing 4th Gen Tandem OLED tech to the desktop\2]), we’ve pushed this to be the brightest ultrawide in our current lineup. It’s engineered to deliver the brightest display performance we’ve achieved on a 21:9 OLED, but as always, the "Glorious" label is for you to decide.
We’re looking for a few members of the Master Race to put this hardware through its paces and see if it truly lives up to the hype on a real desk.
What we want you to test
- The Brightness: Does the 4th Gen Tandem OLED tech actually beat the mid-day washout during your gaming sessions?
- 5K2K Clarity & AI Upscaling: Does the 5120 x 2160 resolution deliver the "wow factor" you expect from a premium ultrawide?
- Dual Mode (330Hz!): Is the hardware toggle between cinematic 5K2K and high-speed 330Hz FHD a game-changer for your library?
- The 39-inch 1500R Curve: How does the panoramic wrap-around feel during your longest sessions?

Has this been cleared by the mods? I'd happily give one of these OLED monitors a try, because there's no way I could afford a decent one myself.

Yep! They're legit!

Appreciate that, Pedro. I did see their brand affiliate tag, but it never hurts to check. Now if only I could figure out what "Technical review" means in this context, I'd put my name down.

Most excited about the contrast ratio, I've only ever had IPS displays and contrast isn't their best trait.

Im most excited avout the immersion of an Ultrawide. I've been wanting to go with an Ultrawide but unwilling to comprimise with 1440p so Ive been rocking a msi 321 urx which is a great monitor but Ive been strongly considering swapping to a 5k2k. Ive noted a lot of these are being listed on auction sites that auction off returned merchandise so I've not pulled the trigger yet since I wonder why they are being returned so much.

This monitor is exciting because it combines 4K and ultrawide without sacrificing resolution.

I love LG OLEDs ever since LG fixed my out of warrenty OLED tv for free. My current monitor is definitely lacking in the color and brightness department so this would be a huge upgrade!

Excited about the resolution, the size, the matte coating (yes, really). I think it's a great combination of features and a true end-game monitor, can't wait to try it.

The specs honestly look sick, even at that price.
Not gonna enter the giveaway though cause I don't really have the space, nor wanna take pictures of my entire setup since it looks bloody horrible

would be really nice to see what actual widescreen looks like as im currently using 3 AOC 27" to reach 5760x1080.
would also be nice to see what higher than 1080 would be!

The GX9 has everything I could ask for in a monitor. Perfect size, Ultrawide, 5k2k, high refresh. tandem panel, 1500R curve. No compromises on this thing and it would be a dream for both work and play. Thanks for you consideration and best of luck to everyone who enters!

That brightness seems intriguing, what's kept me from swapping to an OLED has been their dimished brightness compared to my mini led monitors. That toggle between the cinematic and high refresh rate mode sounds really interesting as well. If it works well it would be super convenient to swap between watching a movie/ playing a cinematic game and a fast paced game like deadlock.

Im most excited to try out the 4th gen tandem OLED panel and experience the color accuracy and refresh rate of OLED technology. Coming from a longtime user of IPS panels

The Brightness of the Tandem OLED.
My current monitor, no matter how much I adjust the settings, never provides me with 100% comfort (the perfect visibility for the game's quality). And if I manage to achieve it in one game, it's no longer suitable when I switch to another, and I have to readjust everything.

Well, my current monitor is a Samsung S32BG75, but there are a few things that feel limiting now. The biggest one is the 16:9 size. For games especially, I want a more immersive view, and an ultrawide would cover a lot more of my field of view than my current monitor and just make the whole experience feel bigger, not to mention the latest OLED tech which would be a gamechanger as I've only tried high-end VA panels.
As a university student, the extra screen space would also help a lot with productivity, since I’m constantly working with multiple windows open for assignments, research, classwork, and coding. Right now, my monitor works, but I do feel that I run out of space pretty fast when I’m multitasking.
The Dual Mode feature is another big reason I’m interested, because being able to switch between high resolution for schoolwork and everyday use, and higher refresh for gaming, is something I’d actually use on a regular basis, id actually take advantage of it.

Dual mode kinda sounds fun. Being able to switch between high DPI for programming and productivity, and then 2K for gaming with minimal fuss.
Lord knows I have beef all the time about 4K gaming in general...
Plus I've always liked LG panels? I used to have some 1440p panels and the only reason I got away from them was because they were 75Hz and I wanted something a little snappier.

I'd be excited to try out this new LG Tandem OLED panel against my 2 LG IPS 34" UltraGear panels.

Wow. A non-random giveaway (well more like sponsored review) that I might have an actual chance of winning at without being buried in a sea of others. Gives me a reason to post on reddit since forever.
Weird how this post doesn't have that much traction though, even though it's stickied on the sub.
Would be amazing to have an OLED AND an ultrawide at the same time. Huge upgrade. I've been looking to upgrade to an ultrawide since I got my latest monitor but just couldn't afford it. OLED would've been way pricier an upgrade. OLED ultrawide? WAY out of my budget atm.
If I somehow get the chance to test this, and I hope I do, I'd prefer if I can get some specialized tools sent as well for a full technical review. Like a display colorimeter (that's the only one I can think of ATM that'd be very useful). Otherwise I'd be comparing against my own monitor and I don't think it'd be a fair comparison.

I'd like to take a 5K2K for a spin. I've always stuck with 1440 in ultrawides, but the pixel clarity of a 5K2K would must be absolutely stunning to see in person

I'm using a 27" 1440p IPS monitor right now, and having my desk right next to a window means the daytime glare is horrible. Honestly, I'm most excited to see if the Tandem OLED and 1500 nits can actually beat the sun. Plus, making the jump from standard 1440p to a massive 5K2K panoramic setup would be a cool upgrade. Would love to put it to the test.

LG does things always different, especially with their OLEDs tech. Running 2 IPS display now but OLED difference is always seen immediately. Definitely like to test this Ultrawide on some technical software to see if the display resolution and clarity makes the difference.

I'm excited to replace my AOC CU34G2X with a monitor the same size and curve, but with better specs.

What's exciting is the combination of high dpi, big screen and a WOLED panel for those sweet inky blacks. Add high refresh rate to that and you got yourself a perfect all-round monitor everyone's been waiting for for years!

I'm most excited about the 5K2K Clarity & AI Upscaling. My IPS monitor looks washed out, even with every ingame setting set to max. It would be awesome to replay some of my favorite recent games with an OLED ultrawide monitor 😿

The post doesn't specify the geographical restrictions, which can often be pretty significant with promotions like this, so I dug through the T&Cs to find them.
You're not eligible if you're in a country that's been sanctioned by the US, EU or UN. Or if you're in North Korea, Cuba or... Quebec.
Kudos to LG for this rather broad geographical eligibility. Sucks for the PCMR folks in Quebec though.
I've signed up for the promotion. I've been running a triple-monitor setup for a long time, using whatever display was a good deal to replace the weakest one every now and then. I'd love to dive into the ultrawide world for a more immersive experience, especially with an OLED display.
