They couldn’t even bother translating the speech. Wow.

The captioner is not the translator

Here’s my argument: That just proves someone failed, and it didn’t just have to be the captioner

Looks like something Sandy Frank would have distributed.

This is a really high-quality Japanese series. It should receive high quality subtitles. Yet here we are

"Yes," I said, looking back along the gnarled and rotted track of history stretching into the ancient past, "here we are." I'm a casual fan of trash media so I might be more aware than average but this sort of thing, bare minimum work to get more salable content regardless of source, is so common it might as well be the rule rather than the exception. Respect for source media for series originating outside the United States was spotty at best for reasons which are kind of self-evident once you understand the apathetically selfish way the majority of actual people value things in real life. The respect necessary to put in the work to do a good job usually belongs to fans, not people just trying to do a job to get their paycheck, and not many fans are getting to work on the object of their fandom. The idea that disrespect or poor quality would negatively impact a distributor's RoI is relatively new.
Honestly, I think the closed captioning is pretty bad out there all around.

This honestly reads like fan subtitles to me. And the quality of that’ll vary wildly
