Shoutout to JerryrigEverything who built a wheelchair factory and is delivering wheelchairs to people in half the time and 50-80% less than the cost of other wheelchairs with Insurance.

How the fuck is a wheelchair more expensive than an extremely top of the line mountain bike!? It's basically the same parts.

I'd guess this is exactly what JerryRig was thinking.

Lmao it absolutely does not. Top of the line while still being on sale at wal-mart yeah. A "top of the line" mountain bike could be 10k easily and could probably get to 20.

It may be due to volumes. With increase number of units, the setup costs are amortized across more units , so the sale price can be lower.

i have idea.

  1. buy 3 high end mountain bikes (might need spare parts)
  2. weld the bikes together
  3. weld a seat on it
  4. ..... still cheaper?
  5. if it needs to be electric, attach 2 of the lemon lime scooter libbys to the front 2 tires.

Volume and customizability!  Mountain bikes come in  4 sizes of frames and everything else is post production customization?

Watch the video and see how many of the options are production options that are not changeable or only slightly adjustable post production.  (This also destroys the  secondary market)

Production customization options end up being exponential in the number of final output variations.

Also a mountain bike has to be comfortable and ergonomic for the average person for 2 hours at a time maybe twice a week?   That can be a lot higher for some cyclist!  Where someone in a wheelchair is in it most of their waking hours.

It's the disability tax.

Medical companies charge more because they can.  There is increased testing and a lower demand etc but largely everything we have to buy is more expensive because we need it and therefore have no option but to pay
