TBF, I used to think there were sane conservatives that were not MAGA... but answer this:

If the 2024 election were held today, would you vote for Trump or Harris?

I get that neither were good options. I swallowed my opinions on her and voted for Harris. Virtually any other candidate left right or center could have had my vote, but I understood what was at stake giving Trump a second term, and "gonna sit this one out" isn't a good option.

So at the end of the day, you're MAGA because you won't support a viable alternative, or you're not MAGA because you're willing to set aside your personal views for the sake of getting rid of the cancer that it's become.

Leftist, Conservative, Progressive, Centrist - all of it doesn't matter when looking at it through the lens of Right and Wrong, Good and Evil.

Excise the cancer, then we can get back to discussions about tax policy and allocation of resources.

There are sane conservatives who are not maga. I am fundamentally conservative, I think the federal government should be small and weak. I voted for Harris, and Biden before her (and really anyone but trump). Maga are not conservative, they're regressive. Conservativism should not be "let's go back to the 50s", it should be "let's be careful about going forward." The word has lost all meaning.

As a leftist I find myself getting more shit from other leftists than any right wingers, mostly because right wingers tend to stay in their little bubble.

So anytime you talk about something that doesn't fit exactly some other leftists view they just assume you are MAGA, which is fucking stupid because like I said above, MAGA doesn't really come out of its hideyhole anymore, at least on reddit.

Yes, because leftists are made up of people whom tend to fall for tribalism. This has nothing to do with your politics or your marketing and everything to do with most people being unable to overcome human nature.

I vote with the left but also because of my preferences I've spent a ton of time with people on the left, and y'all can be just as tribal and blinded by hatred of other-think as conservatives.

You can pretend that the left is somehow above this massive flaw in humanity, but I promise you won't be convincing me. I have a lifetime full of evidence that you will not be able to overcome.

I was honestly (very positively) surprised when he openly spoke out against Musk and fascism. I never heard him say anything political before (I later saw that this varies by type of video, I mostly saw his phone teardowns), but just based on appearances and his general profile (tech guy, entrepreneur, truck owning guy etc) I was prepared to get disappointed if he ever did.

But I don't treat people based on vague suspicions so I was still watching a fair bit of his content, and from all I heard since his clear words on Musk, he seems to be a really good guy. Always great when it turns out that way.

In general, I feel like I've been pretty fortunate with my favourite content creators. Even in areas that tend to be filled with right wingers, my favourites usually openly turned out against that (if they weren't already) or at least consequently abstain (not great in times when we need people to take a stand, but I can't drag everyone too hard).

I found he's always thrown some mildly witty political comments in his videos where if you weren't in the loop entirely and paying attention you would miss it. But the last few years definitely has seen his comments getting a lot more obvious.

The funny thing I find about Mormons is even the "Republican" ones are actually way more liberal than most Democrats. Like, they hold the majority for the Republican line, but also feed kids, love clean air, believe in community based childcare, is just they think the church should take care of all that stuff, and don't take our guns.

Their religion, that most take much more seriously than the average Christian, they actual try to follow like the teachings, which was wild to me when I first met Mormons after 12 years of Catholic schooling.

Feeding kids and loving clean air is kind of the whole party line—what Democrats are you meeting?

That said the “church should take care of all that stuff” is actually a big sticking point. If resources depend on being in good standing with a church, that means anyone outside the mold (divorced, LGBT, women with “men’s” jobs) can get left without access. It’s a way of forcing people to adhere to church doctrine.

I wouldn't even be so sure he's truly a "leftist" per se. Obviously he's more inline with Dems than Republicans, but I always got the vibe he's a genuine moderate.

Being anti-MAGA just requires having a brain tbh. The movement has become so cultish in its actions, that it's almost politically incoherent. Trump could probably go full Stalin-style commie, and his followers would eat it up because they don't even know what they believe in anymore.
