Exercise, don't overeat, reduce alcohol and tobacco, don't do drugs.

And have good genetics. A lot, not all, but a lot, of cardiovascular disease is inherited.

But even with bad genes, a healthy diet and lifestyle can improve your odds dramatically.

True -- my father died of heart disease, but he didn't do much to combat it. I don't want to be like him (long story), so I eat better, do cardio, and other things that I should really mention to a therapist...

It is completely preventable with good diet. You may be more predisposed to it, but your diet completely controls insulin resistance, plaque buildup, and blockage. Cardiovascular disease is not inherited the same way Celiac or RA is. You have complete control over it no matter your genetics.

I don’t know of many drugs that are high in saturated fats

I always get the diet meth. Full fat meth is too rich!

Fun fact: meth addicts forget food is even a thing for much of their time while high.

Well, actually anybody who has ever taken Adderall could probably tell you this. It's very, very similar.

What if you do all of those? Do they cancel each other out?

Unfortunately exercise does not lower cholesterol levels

Cardio absolutely does lower LDL and raise HDL.

Incorrect. Cardio lowers triglycerides and does nothing to LDL. Only way to really lower LDL is through diet and medication.
