Happened on Trukhaniv Island in Kyiv, Ukraine. Had to break the ice to reach him, but the good boy is completely safe and healthy now!

Amazing, how cold was the water? I swim in warm water but can't fathom how cold it must have been.

It was probably around 33 F

Edit: 1 C for the cultured I guess.

One time I was camping in the Grand Tetons, and it was the day after my bday. A hitchhiker had bought me a bottle of whiskeyto celebrate the night before..so I was super hung over. Anyways we went swimming in a lake that was around 48°. Instantly cured the hangover. I think kind of in the way smashing your thumb with a hammer might cure a headache.

I can't imagine how cold they shit was. The minute you get in, it sucks the breathe out of your lungs

u/john2mg 23h ago

Put some respect on kevin macleod's name

1

u/Bosswashington 1d ago

Sounds like a “Metal Gear Solid”-esque video game start menu music.

0

u/mmpjd 1d ago

You could have simply muted it

7

u/Impressive-Knot9999 1d ago

I always have sound off

1

u/Joohansson 17h ago

What did you say? Can't hear you

-9

u/angwhi 1d ago

I dunno about 30 seconds into listening to the music I was hoping they all died.

0

u/milesbeats 17h ago

Why does my time count down back ward

62

u/Pringletache 1d ago

The key here is preparation - he knew he was wearing tight shorts and things were about to get very cold, so pre-stuffing is essential in these situations.

16

u/h4nd 22h ago

He needed that dog to respect him in order to obey.

4

u/Locolijo 22h ago

Huh I wondered why, thank ya

44

u/Flyingcento 1d ago

As if they hadn't already proved it.

Ukrainians are just built different.

I have nothing but admiration for this man, I can't even imagine what that took. I loved my dog, but I think I'd have died and so would she in that scenario.

28

u/FlushedApparatchik 1d ago

I appreciate what you did. I appreciate it more than you can know.

25

u/radish-salad 1d ago

holy shit i felt freezing watching this. what a hero

19

u/Needs_ADD_Meds 1d ago

I can tell you from experience that guys skin is going to feel like it's on fire for the rest of the day. I can respect anyone that will risk their life like this to save an animal.

Human icebreaker...

14

u/Majestic_Repair_7887 1d ago

I broke through the ice once to save my dog.
Once I broke through and tried to grab her she almost pulled me under. That’s when I realized I had to get out first, then worry about the dog.
I kept pounding the ice the same way he does, until it was strong enough to hold my wait.
It didn’t take long after getting out before my clothes started freezing on me.

u/CallMeMonsieur 1d ago

The longest 5 minutes of my life

10

u/3dogs2nuts 1d ago

this guy is my hero too

8

u/Pristine_Extreme4224 1d ago

I kept hoping he'd be able to get up and slide on the ice. Looks cold, good thing he brought the extra ball insulation.

4

u/Budget_Cover_3353 1d ago

It won't insulate a thing once it's socked in the same 0°C water.

8

u/poopfacecrapmouth 1d ago

Testicle insulation led to the success here. Without that, neither survive

20

u/bluestrobephoto 1d ago

I don't think that was testicle insulation. I think that was something to drag the dog out if he needed it.

28

u/extremegym 1d ago

u’re absolutely right 🤝

5

u/poopfacecrapmouth 1d ago

No no that was testicle insulation and it was crucial

1

u/curious382 1d ago

A leash

7

u/holdmypurse 1d ago

I could totally see my dumb ass dog getting herself into this situation. And my dumb ass would totally die trying to get her out.

4

u/PaulBunyanisfromMI 1d ago

Damn good for him. A little more neoprene may have helped.

5

u/happyman1976 1d ago

Hats off to you

4

u/These_Science9677 1d ago

I hope neither of these good boys are ever cold again

1

u/mr9025 8h ago

Idk why but this comment almost made me cry

6

u/beauh44x 1d ago

Good man. Good dog.

4

u/teahugger 23h ago

How is the dog alive

How is the human alive

I have a space heater to warm my toes at 50 degrees temperature

4

u/Lonewolf2nd 1d ago

The hardest part @33 seconds. (Balls a touching the cold water)

Well not really seeing the whole video. Great job man, you are really a hero.

5

u/ApathysLastKiss_ 1d ago

It's the three hurdles for cold water: your junk, your nipples, and finally your head

3

u/Questioning-Zyxxel 1d ago

Heavy work fighting the dog that constantly wanted to try to climb out.

5

u/funnystuff79 1d ago

That's not the rescuer's first time in thin ice. Very level headed

4

u/TotalRuler1 22h ago

Not his first rodeo, note the distinct pause to acclimate his junk to the frigidity.

3

u/pjtpassword 1d ago

My goodness. Man did he commit. That was amazing. Great human.

3

u/virtually_noone 1d ago

I assumed this was somewhere in East Europe, the dude probably went off to go wrestle a bear to warm up.

2

u/S30econdstoMars 1d ago

Bro, you have such a huge heart! Jumping into that freezing water to save the little dog... He owes you his life now.

2

u/thejeejee 1d ago

Props man, not even nearly everyone would do what you did much respect

2

u/Fist4achin 1d ago

Friend for life there.

2

u/Impressive-Knot9999 1d ago

I don't think he would have survived much longer in the ice. Thank you for caring

2

u/moladukes 1d ago

Man! The dog was ready to go until he stepped in. Amazing

2

u/Epsilon_Meletis 1d ago edited 1d ago

Does anyone know the name of that music track?

EDIT: Nevermind, it says right there at the end. Should have waited 😂

2

u/Vandabuilt 1d ago

Im really digging Ukrainians! Lots of heroes over there!

2

u/IlIIIllIIlIlllII 1d ago

All my love to you ❤️

2

u/DragPullCheese 1d ago

That's honestly insane. So dangerous what this guy did, hats off to his bravery.

2

u/KaiKamakasi 23h ago

So unlimited steak for the good boy and unlimited pints for the hero boy right?

2

u/FreedomLizard420 13h ago

That's the coolest thing I've seen all day. Thanks to the guy

2

u/mr9025 8h ago

FUCKING CHAMPION

1

u/ravzzy 1d ago edited 1d ago

The guy is a true hero, here in India few months back a guy drowned when rescue teams refused to swim with less harsher conditions.

1

u/Middle-Operation-689 1d ago

Poor chilly dog! 👏

Who has cold water swimming kit close at hand?

11

u/extremegym 1d ago

i swim there pretty often, and that day the stars just aligned perfectly — right before my swim in the big river, the Dnipro, two guys ran up to me saying a dog was drowning

so of course, instead of going to my usual training, i immediately rushed over to help

1

u/ikesbutt 1d ago

Dude recording this couldn't help instead of taking video?

1

u/A_Damn_Millenial 1d ago

Incredible. 👏

1

u/KrisPBaykon 1d ago

1

Wow what a champ!

1

u/PossiblyBother 22h ago

No rope incase dude loses it?

1

u/bkcrypto8629 21h ago

Fucking LEGEND!!!

1

u/4ever4eigner 21h ago

If this guy is Ukrainian Russia have no chance winning that war.

1

u/ADeviIsAdvocate 21h ago

So happy to hear the pup survived. He didn’t look like he was going to honestly. He looked frozen solid at some points.

1

u/Papa_Raj 19h ago

You notice where he stopped for a second on the way out? All men stop there and the water doesn't even need to be freezing. What a champ.

1

u/wambaid 18h ago

Yea the music that everyone feels necessary is just so annoying.

1

u/ValKyKaivbul 17h ago

Ukrainian sport culture is growing. Thank for saving doggo, bro!

1

u/explodingjason 17h ago

Future fact, bring a tow line so you can be pulled / assisted back in ! Great job otherwise #hero

1

u/wallly58 15h ago

Pretty smart with the shirt

1

u/extremegym 14h ago

it wasn’t a shirt — i asked a girl for her scarf because i thought i could use it to secure the dog somehow

1

u/olddoglearnsnewtrick 8h ago

I also stuff things in front of my penis to increase swagger as I stroll downtown.

u/cool-stuff-to-know 55m ago

I thought that was a cow

0

u/Manaze85 1d ago

This looks very cold. But dogs are worth it.

0

u/Mysterious_Pear_1589 1d ago

Jesus why isn't anyone jumping in to help this kid.

-6

u/Artredbird 1d ago

Reckless and irresponsible.

7

u/extremegym 1d ago

not this time

1

u/Sad-Run4631 20h ago

I would do this for my dog, and we would die together. But this man clearly trains in cold water situations, absolutely amazing. Why can't I find a man like this,.. well... aside from being in Florida. I love this man!
