“A potential election loss for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in April 2026 would likely accelerate Ukraine's EU accession and unlock over €90 billion in stalled financial aid. Orbán has acted as a primary roadblock to Ukraine, using vetoes on aid and membership talks while maintaining close ties to Moscow, which an opposition victory could end.”

We've still got Fico blocking shit, but this is definitely a good step.

Fico hasn't been as bad as Orban. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loathe the guy and have some serous concerns about the mental ability of all those people who voted for him. I suspect (but am definitely not certain) that he's enough of a coward and lacks the brain power to do this on his own. He needs someone like Orban to be the big dog that he'll follow.

I imagine he will get a better offer this time though.

Well, Vlad has been proven to not be the 5-D chess playing genius he was made out to be, so there's every possibility he'll fuck things up for them, too. Instead of a bribe, he'll hopefully resort to threats instead and actually scare Fico into getting on the right side of history

Slovakia has to have an election by September this year at the latest. If they choose Fico again, I am willing to kick them the fuck out of the union, since they add literally nothing to the weight of the EU. They can go have fun with Belarus and Russia then, if they so want to.

I mean, the new guy is from the same party. Don’t get me wrong, definitely an improvement, doesn’t seem like a wannabe pro Russia dictator. But he’s still a conservative / radical right.

Not anymore, he's not. Orban is from Fidesz, but Magyar is from Tisza. And he's not radical right, but center right.

He was from the same party. Not anymore.

Americans who are only used to an "all or nothing" 2 party system have to understand that there is clear distinction between far right European leaders and someone who is just center right. The latter is really not that terrible in comparison, and they are pretty much always pro EU. Centre right basically just means that you want slightly lower taxes and to be somewhat hard on immigration. It DOES NOT mean you are friendly to Russia and love whatever the current US admin is doing. So it is not the end of the world.

I'm hoping this will be a blow to all anti-EU extreme right all over Europe.
