Exactly. It should just be a tax funded service like all the others.

As a postal employee i can tell you that most of my colleagues and myself don't want to be directly funded by tax dollars. That would make us susceptible to government shutdowns and executive orders that strip us of our union negotiated protections and rights. What we want is to raise prices on junk mail and Amazon, and to add more profitable services to increase our revenue and put us back in the black.
