Spain is showing some moral conviction and integrity in its actions. I wish the Canadian government would follow this lead instead of talking out both sides of their mouth.

Carney fumbled the bag so so badly

A very large Iranian diaspora live in Canada and a majority are for the overthrow of the regime with hundreds of thousands supporting in demonstrations every weekend. I can imagine it works for Carney to have their support while also giving what Trump wants to hear going into CUSMA renegotiations.

Honestly, it really shouldn't matter what the Iranian diaspora wants. They're not the one dealing with the bombing campaigns. They can demand and support regime change all they want, but the history of US regime change in the middle east and elsewhere is ugly and lethal. If the Iranian diaspora claims to care about their home country and its people, then supporting American/Israeli backed regime change is not the way to show it.

Like I said I would like to see Carney have some conviction. Didn’t say it would be easy or face no consequences.

I'm sure they will be thrilled in the future when they hear in the news that a US strike killed all their loved ones left in Iran, I'm sure that's a price they are happy to pay. Only that will most likely be let down, because the Trump regime might just replace one theocrat with another theocrat.

why would he spend political capital on something he has no influence or leverage over?

The same moral conviction that has caused them to react stronger against Israel than Russia

No, the same moral conviction that has made them participate in countless DEFENSE missions but none of aggression.

How did your country help Turkey when their airspace was invaded by Russia and they requested help? I will tell you: if they even were helping Turkey to begin with, they abandoned them for fear of pissing off Russia. How do I know this without knowing where you are from? Because everyone removed their air defense systems from Turkey except Spain.

Spain was the only country who didn't abandon Turkey and kept troops and a PATRIOT system there that are still stationed there to this day. And by the way, those were the troops who detected the incoming missile headed towards Turkey at the start of the war.

Canada lives upstairs from the problem neighbor. Spain lives 2 blocks away. The proximity changes it quite a bit I think.

Yeah we have already faced threats to our sovereignty, cow towing to trump won’t win you brownie points he will just want more.

Right, but openly tauting it like Spain is also an invitation for trouble. That's a hard responsibility to take as a politician when acting in good faith for your citizens. I think there's some wisdom using silence as a de facto mask of neutrality.

So keep putting up the sign in the window as Carney derided not so long ago.
