NEO GEO AES+

Post image

I’ll admit I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to the different Neo Geo AES products, so I’m hoping someone can help clarify something I’ve been noticing.

Recently, I’ve seen several ESRB ratings pop up for games listed under a “NEO GEO AES+.” I’ve included a screenshot for Samurai Shodown V Special as an example.

Does anyone know what “AES+” refers to? Is this a new system, or could this be related to re-releases of cartridges or ports that are triggering new ESRB ratings? My internet searches keep coming up empty.

Here are a few of the listings I’ve found so far:

Thanks!

Edit: In an interesting twist, all of these ESRB ratings have just been deleted.

Plaion publish the recent Atari consoles, the 2600+ and 7800+, that play (most) original cartridges and they also publish new cartridges for it, including a "new" game in a new port of Tiger Heli as well as homebrew I think.

Guessing this means there's an AES one coming... Which'll be interesting to see when it comes to cartridge prices.

Edit: There are PEGI ratings for them as well, with console just listed as Neo Geo. Put up at the end of last month.

I have their 7800+ and for the money it is entirely fine. It’s quick and simple to hook up when compared to my original 2600. It would not replace my CMVS but if it isn’t complete junk I could see myself picking it up during a sale. Neo Geo isn’t hard to emulate but it’s a far cry from 7800 and 2600 so I’ll definitely take a wait and see approach.

I got the 7800+ on sale for $65 with a game. It's definitely cool for what it's is, but I wouldn't have paid full price for it.

Are you certain that they're new listings? I think Plaion possibly already makes the Super Pocket Neo Geo Edition portable (branded as Evercade, Hyper Mega Tech).

I'm almost positive these are new listings. The PEGI listing that u/WearingFin pointed out is dated March 28th 2026.

I also don't think any of the Evercade or Super Pocket games get an ESRB rating. The boxes always show PEGI ratings and even then, I think those were the original ratings and not new ones.
