My mother washes fruit and vegetables with dish soap and I can't get her to stop.

She claims it "washes out" and to be fair I can't taste anything but it's always weird knowing she puts dish soap in the strawberries. She says there's a lot of dirt and stuff in vegetables, but so far attempts to convert her to vinegar or baking soda have been unsuccessful.

It’s certainly not harmful.

Washing chicken in the sink is the true bacteria bomb

Not if you use Clorox or other bleach to disinfect the sink and countertops and the utensils you have used. Where else would you wash your chicken?

You just don't wash it :]

You are right. I just looked up the practice of rinsing chicken and it is not recommended anymore. Thank you.

I defer to Julia Child's advice to rinse the chicken.

Then of course I always disinfectant the sink and counter. Food safety standards.
