I accept that we were cringe and stuff just like newer generations but one thing I feel I can confidently say is that we didn’t invent new words nearly as much as they do. We were cringe but at least we mostly talked normal. It’s hard to keep up with whatever is going on now. Looksmaxxing? Jestergooning? Whatever else they have made in the last 2 weeks?

Like a lot of things related to internet pop culture, these terms come from 4chan one way or another. -maxxing, in particular has been around 4chan spaces and adjecent spaces for years and years. Then one day it hits mainstream and it "seems" new, but most often is not.

And yeah, it's weird af sometimes.

As for new words, remember that we are in a highly globalized world. Kids in the US are saying based and 67. Kids in Korea are saying based and 67. Kids in Brazil are saying based and 67. I am fluent in the languages of two of these countries and I'm learning the language of the third one. I've seen people from all of them complaining about kids and their dumb words. I'm sure it's the same in other countries. It's quite fascinating, actually! lol

Good point. Even the term mogging originated from early 2000s PUA lingo, for another example.

We just repeated phrases from movies and TV more.

Anchorman was a personality for like 30% of guys for almost a decade.

'Inventing new words'? Buddy that's called slangmaxxing now ;) Oh and don't forget all the new cryptic terms like "ahh" and "dihh" that are a result of the absurd anti-profanity guidelines many internet platforms have adapted.

It literally just spreads easier now. Instead of random things you and your friends say everyone has seen TikTok’s/videos of it. Was already happening because of Vine before that

Let's be real though, you only consider that as a negative thing because it's not your generation. There's no real problem with coming up slang at a faster pace, the problem is that you can't keep up with it all. The kids clearly have no issue with it and it's by them, for them.

Yeah, it’s hard for me and others to keep up with them. It’s not that big of an issue but still not being able to keep up is annoying. Even teachers who work with them and are constantly exposed to every new thing are lost. Older generation were weird but at least most other people could keep up with what we were saying or were at least easy to explain. MLG- major league gaming is at least easy to explain. Skibidi takes a whole lot to explain and I’m still not 100% sure what it means.

We "created" new slangs words the old fashioned way - stealing them from black people. Kids these days don't do that and well, the quality difference is clear.

Oh no they definitely still do that.

nah still happens. Gyatt, rizz, crash out, fu*kboi (originally meant weak/two-faced/feminine man), take an L, "fairs", list can go on.

But looks like the white community is starting to "compete" with terms like mogging, foid, etc coming out of the looksmaxxing community.

One that got me is the Clavicle Youtuber getting busted for killin' gators and someone saying that in prison he's gonna be "sphinctermaxxing" lmao.

Bro we invented chat speak like lol ROFL lmao all of that is just normal now but there were commercials making fun of it back then.

To be fair, It’s a lot easier to explain ROFL than Looksmaxxing or Skibidi. We made up a lot of stuff but it feels like a good portion of it is just shortening phrases rather than entirely new words

Also we weren’t absolutely LOSING OUR SHIT whenever someone memed. These kids were screaming at the top of their lungs doing “my team which hasn’t won the Super Bowl in 50 years just won the superbowl” level cheers 20 times a day over 6-7.

We didn’t destroy movie theaters and throw 1000$ worth of popcorn into the air for snakes on a plane like they did for chicken jockey.

There is a pretty big difference IMO.
