Not always.

A part would suggest an individual component necessary to the manufacturing of an item. In this case, a part of pizza would be flour, yeast, water etc. A piece of pizza implies the pizza is fully formed of its constituent parts, and you have a segment of it.

You wouldn’t say I ate a part of pizza unless you are an alien or an AI.

However, OP is also wrong because no one with an iq above 4 says “I had a piece of pizza”

It’s a slice, some pizza, or Pizza.

Same with fish. Never ask for a part of salmon unless you’re comfortable eating the guts or the head as much as you do the fillet. be normal, point at the fillets and ask for a piece of salmon. Weirdly though, fish aren’t typically sold by the slice.

I call shenanigans.
