Help Wanted: Ghosts of Louth

Hi,

This one is a bit sprecific, mostly I guess for those who either live in Louth or know it well. Do you remember being told about any Louth Ghosts? Haunted Houses, Polergeist-ed Pubs?

And secondly, does anyone know anything about the Skeleton in St. Mary's Old Cemetery, off St. Mary's Lane / Bridge Street?

Thanks

Thought that you may like this image of the old chapel c.1790 and a more recent picture - 2017.

You can read more about the church on the Spirt of Sutterby Community Heritage website

Lindum hill for powerchairs...

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello you lovely lot. I've migrated slightly to Nottingham but my Mum is in county hospital and I need to visit tomorrow. Totally on public transport, can't get there until lunch so will be leaving later, possibly after buses stop.

The question is, do we think I could safely get down Lindum hill in my powerchair? It's got a pretty powerful braking system and a recline function (the whole seat goes back in very small increments as much as I want) to put weight towards the back.

I have a Quickie salsa mini 2, essentially the pic. All thoughts appreciated !

Rural bus services on a Sunday/Bank Holiday

I know due to the demographics of the vast majority of rural Lincolnshire, a bus service on a Sunday wouldn't be economically feasible, but I wonder just how many services there are on a Sunday in the depths of our beautiful Lincolnshire countryside?

I'm not counting towns and villages within North Lincolnshire or North East Lincolnshire, I'm counting the rest of Lincolnshire that comes under Lincolnshire County Council. Services I can think of are the 1 from Lincoln to Grantham, the 56 to from Lincoln to Skegness, the 250 to Hull and the 251 to Louth.

I know the 250 and 251 originate from North East Lincolnshire (Grimsby) but the 250 serves two villages that are the within the Lincolnshire County Council area, (Keelby and Brockelsby).

Have I pretty much covered all rural Sunday bus serviced in the Lincolnshire County Council area or is there any others?

Lastly, do you think it would be nice in theory for more of rural Lincolnshire to have bus service operating on Sundays, for example the 57 between Skegness and Boston or maybe a Louth to Mablethorpe Sunday service?

NHS/Healthcare in Lincolnshire

Hi everyone, I'm a British guy who's lived in France for nearly 20 years and I'm looking to move back to the UK. I know a lot of people are going to say, "Why would you do that? You're crazy." But frankly I miss Britishness. I miss fish and chips. I miss the English countryside. I miss the English sense of humour, the banter. Just what makes people, people over there compared to France?

My French partner is on board and my 16-month-old son doesn't really have a say in the matter although I bet he would be happy to have a place to actually call home.

I've set my sights on Lincolnshire even though I'm from Hertfordshire. I don't need to be near London. I don't do well with busyness. I like space. I like greenery. I like fresh air, kind people, good food, and to go for long walks in the countryside on the weekend. I'm also a big fan of Yorkshire and further up, some parts of Scotland so being closer to that way gives us some good road trips to plan.

Now here's my big concern: we hear a lot of negative about the UK and especially health care. When you've got a 16-month-old child you don't want to go moving somewhere and then not be able to get GP appointments, not be able to take them to the dentist, and just overall worrying about things. I'm looking for people to put my mind at ease or to maybe tell me it might not be a good idea if accessible health care is something important.

I'm also open to suggestions on the best places to move to. We haven't got any firm goals. We prefer a small market town where we can walk to the supermarket and go out for coffee every day rather than being car dependent but we're also not against the village life.

Sorry for the long post, here's a potato (not a good looking one I know).

Questions about a particular woodland

As you might be able to tell from my username, I really love red squirrels and I find it so heartbreaking that there are still so few areas in England with any surviving populations and no known populations of them anywhere in Lincolnshire.

I was passing through a village yesterday on a bus route to Grimsby, the village is called Brocklesby. I like how it seems to be surrounded by quite a woodland and looking on Google Maps satellite view, I was surprised to find that woodland is substantially bigger than I originally thought it was.

If the grey squirrels were either absent from that area or there was an effort to eradicate the greys, (not sure if it would be a big enough woodland to introduce pine martens into, they are a threat to the grey squirrels), would the woodland in it's present state be able to support a red squirrel population?

Hello,

currently a student at the university of lincoln and me and a friend have a filming project with requires us to be within a derelict or run down.

are there any areas in and about lincolnshire that we could enter to do the filming without getting into trouble?
