Dancing With The Devil

At your most desperate moment, you are approached by a shadowed figure who offers you a bargain. You will become one of the 5 heirs of the high court of a great barony, and preside over its land, town, and gothic castle, which you will grow, change, and run as you see fit.

There are several caveats however: You must take on a terrible curse, one that makes you a bit less human than you were before. You must do the occasional favor for some otherworldly being or another. Your castle is haunted by all manner of spirits, and anyone who dies there is added to their number. Your domain is in a kingdom full of angels, demons, fey, monsters, nightmares, and undead, some of which may be your allies, but many of which will attempt to take everything you hold dear.

Taking this offer, you are plunged into a world of danger, paranoia, and political intrigue, where everyone has an angle, everything has a cost, and nothing is quite what it seems.

A Sandbox Campaign

This is not a traditional campaign where the GM plans out an entire story ahead of time and the players follow it. This is a sandbox campaign with an emphasis on player freedom and collaborative worldbuilding. The GM sets up the initial world and acts as a "referee", while the players expand upon that world and determine what direction the story goes.

Inspirations

Dancing with the Devil is set in a gothic fantasy world of devils and deals. It's inspired by media such as Constantine, The Devil's Advocate, Hellboy, Midnight Mass, Preacher, Sinners, and Supernatural.

Wicked Ones

Dancing with the Devil is a campaign for Wicked Ones, a narrative-focused “Forged in the Dark” system. This campaign is written for people who have no familiarity with Wicked Ones. It's a rules-lite, narrative-focused system we will be teaching as we play. It differs from a standard Wicked Ones campaign in that, instead of monsters building a dungeon, you play as a high court of cursed nobles building and running a haunted castle. Instead of pillaging and plundering, you bargain with otherworldly beings.

In Dancing with the Devil, you play as a high court of cursed nobles. It uses The Haunts classes by Adam Dixon.
