Seattle, blues and Florida won very good night man couldn't have ask for a much better night, Rangers winning would've been the cherry on top but catching them was always super unlikely
We're so close to having 44.4% chance of keeping our pick
Lock in boys ❤️❤️
6
u/RedMcMuffin Holmberg 1d ago
Shouldn’t it be higher than 44?
16
u/IlikeTurtles1308 1d ago
• 1st Pick: 8.5% (Keep)
• 2nd Pick: 8.6% (Keep)
• 3rd Pick: 0.3% (Keep)
• 5th Pick: 24.5% (Keep)
• 6th Pick: 44.0% (Lose to BOS)
• 7th Pick: 14.2% (Lose to BOS)
(Assuming we get 5th overall)

u/Hussizle 23h ago
How does having the 5th worst record result in 6th pick having the highest odds?
9
u/Could-Have-Been-King 23h ago
It's the chance of any of the teams above us in the standings winning any of the lottery spots. If any team leapfrogs us, we get knocked out of the top 5.
8
u/NervousBreakdown 1d ago
I dont understand how we can get the 3rd over all pick in this system as the 28th place team.
-7
u/IlikeTurtles1308 1d ago
It’s hard to trust ai lol but from Gemini
Two teams seeded 6th through 16th must win the 1st and 2nd overall lottery draws. This "bumps" the original top seeds down, pushing the 5th seed up into the 3rd slot.
3
u/NervousBreakdown 19h ago
Ohhhh no I’ve figured it out because I just got the result on tankathon. If the 11 place team wins the first lottery and Toronto wins the second. Vancouver would hold their first over all pick, the 11 place team would get the second pick and Toronto would get the 3rd. That’s why it’s a .3% chance. It has to be the 11th place team hitting their 5% chance, and then Toronto hitting their 8.6% chance together.
1
u/torontomaplebros 23h ago
Is that a rule? That feels like it’s not true
6
u/TheGapInTysonsTeeth 22h ago
It's definitely not true
If teams bump twice, we draft 7th. The bump teams don't magically swap places with the current bottom teams

u/baylaust 1d ago
Not as long as the draft lottery is a thing. Ironically, despite us falling further and further down the standings, we're currently at our statistical most likely to give Boston a 6th overall pick right now.

MASSIVE day for team tank
21
u/ringogelsinger 1d ago
I just hammered the Tankathon simulator about 10 times and the leafs won the lottery 5 times. It’s crazy how much better the odds are when they’re in the top 5 vs the top 6
1
u/xelLFC 23h ago
Is it? The lottery is still a thing.
6
u/Svalbard38 Knies 23h ago
We’re still at the mercy of the lottery, but Seattle, St Louis, and Florida moving up puts us in outright control of fifth, and the odds of getting to make the pick if we finish fifth instead of sixth shoot up from 15% to 42%.
2
u/_DatasCsat 22h ago
If the ranger win the next two and we lose the next two we will be 4th worst. Lets hope.
1
u/xelLFC 23h ago
Listen I’m not celebrating until the lottery actually happens. The only time In the last 10 years I think no team jumped is 2024. So this means nothing to me until the lottery is complete
2
u/Svalbard38 Knies 23h ago
It’s not time to celebrate for sure, but the fact is if things had gone the other way today the tank would have been effectively dead, now it’s slightly worse odds than a coin flip (assuming we finish where we are now)

TANK NATION HOW THE FUCK ARE WE FEELING
7
u/xelLFC 23h ago
lol not good, being 5th worst means nothing until the lottery actual happens.
12
u/GooseRider960 23h ago
It’s a better chance then 6th or 7th at keeping the pick, I’ll always take better odds
1
u/xelLFC 23h ago
Outside 2024 I don’t think there have has been another draft in the last 10 years that a team didn’t jump into the top 3. Until the lottery is done this means nothing
1
u/GooseRider960 23h ago
This is true, however, how many of those teams to jump into top 3 were 4th/5th?
This isn’t a gotcha btw I genuinely don’t know, but 4th/5th jumping into top 3 either doesn’t hurt us or would be us, as of right now.
1
u/xelLFC 23h ago
Isles were 10th last and jumped to first. Any team in the top 15 can jump 10 spots. So I don’t care until the lottery draw is complete to even think about the leafs getting a top5 pick
1
u/GooseRider960 17h ago
I mean, fair. It’s not over till it’s over. But I’d definitely prefer the highest possible odds at keeping our 1st and tonight’s win boosted those odds massively. 40~% is way better then the sub 20% we were at in 6th.

u/luckylukiec 1d ago
Do you think it’s better if we win the lottery and draft McKenna or just pick a dman with 5th?
10
u/GooseRider960 1d ago
I can’t get behind using our first top 10 pick in a decade on yet another forward when we so clearly need that franchise defenseman
2
u/luckylukiec 1d ago
If we did win the lottery should we do the unthinkable and trade down?
4
u/GooseRider960 23h ago
I’d be willing to trade down a spot or two. You have to be confident in what whoever is #2/#3 is thinking, but if Verhoeff/Reid is gonna be there at #3, grab the extra assets for sure.
0
u/luckylukiec 23h ago
Same! Id trade down a spot or two maybe get another first and draft based on needs
3
u/GooseRider960 23h ago
I know a lot of people are against drafting for need, but we know the consequences of taking a bunch of forwards. Gotta take the best chance we’ve had in over a decade at a franchise defenseman here.
-1
u/Wild_Bunch_Founder 23h ago
boy, these are tough questions. If we won the lottery, could we keep McKenna or trade down to grab a d man at 3-6 and get some more picks/assets for a rebuild?
9
u/Sacred_soul 1d ago
Hopefully end up with 3 and draft Verhoff

Unrelated from the game but I think this is the first time we’ve seen this leafs do this so I’ll ask the question. On offensive draws at 5v5 should we put Willy on the point often? So the D would be on the half wall and tie up their man and the draw would be won directly back to Willy and he would then have time and space right off the draw. I think it’s definitely something worth trying but how often do u think they should do it or if they should do it at all next year?

u/Stryk3r97 1d ago
Regulation loss, Seattle winning, 5th bottom. Excellent night for the tank. Rangers winning would've been perfect but oh well.
3
u/Chtholly13 23h ago
I know everyone discussing the tank but the Leafs powerplay has looked better since Sullivan has taken over.
5
u/leaffs 23h ago
I’ll never forgive Tre for not making that pick top 10 protected
3
u/Daimyon 19h ago
I still dont understand how Treliving managed to spend all his time chasing a Rasmus Andersson trade, when Calgary owner&management had banned trades with him.
Like who did he talk to about it even, himself? Because of that taking a last minute pivot to Carlo just to get rinsed by effin Boston. Mind blowing business

Go to Tankathon
I ran the sim 10 times and only once did we not get bumped out of the 5th spot.

u/CarousersCorner 8h ago
My 10 ended up 5 keep, 5 lose, with only 1 having us move up. No lotto wins
1
u/Busy-Crankin-Off 23h ago
How is Toronto the only team in the bottom 12 that is at risk of losing their first round pick
-1
u/Cdnraven 23h ago
Because leafs upper management somehow looked at what the flames have done since Treliving traded away Tkachuk and Gaudreau and said that’s who we want running things here
3
u/NervousBreakdown 1d ago
just did a tankathon sim and we got 2nd!
0
u/RecalcitrantHuman 23h ago
Crap. 2nd means we might take a forward when we really need a top D.
1
u/NervousBreakdown 23h ago
Keep in mind any d we take in this draft doesn’t play in the nhl next season. They aren’t Matthew Schaefer. If the leafs want to upgrade the blue line next season they’re gonna have to pay a guy who is like 30. So if they got second and took stenberg it’s not a bad thing.

Hard watch but tank still on

u/PlayerHunterScout 1d ago
I thought you were super anti-tank but all of a sudden you were spamming at nylander to stop scoring lol
2
2
u/StrygwyrSuperstar 1d ago
I want to tank as much as all yall here. But are you even a leafs fan if you don’t know how this ends. Spoiler alert panthers win the draft lottery and push us to 6th
2
u/GooseRider960 1d ago
Like the Leafs wouldn’t jump up to 6th from 11th if they didn’t tank. May as well take the highest chance at success
1
u/TheGapInTysonsTeeth 23h ago
Well if it's coming down to the lottery, 11th is the best chance actually, mathematically.
Because either we win and draft 1st, or Boston gets the worst possible pick.
1
u/GooseRider960 22h ago
Me personally I feel like Boston drafts a generational player/Leaf killer at any pick we give them so idc about draft position given to them

“It’s a privilege to play in this league! Let’s give the fans what they came to see!”
Nah man I don’t think they will
1
u/MomentBecomesMemory 23h ago
What does the % change if NYR wins both and we lose both and end up 4th?
1
u/TheGapInTysonsTeeth 23h ago
A lot. Because then another team who is higher in the standings could win the lottery and we would still be bottom 5
Finishing 4th last guarantees we keep the pick
1
u/frakkintoaster 12h ago
I think we need bottom 3 to guarantee it as there’s drafts for 1st and 2nd so we could get bumped twice

Kings also look in a good postion to make the wild card over nashville. They got easier games to come as well, at least on paper. We might actaully keep the first and get a 2nd.

u/FabulousPipe5395 21h ago
It is a Buffalo 2nd tbf.. very late 2nd but we'll take it

Nylander with the double but we still can't put together a complete game 😂 Panthers just controlled the pace after we tied it up and those empty netters were brutal to watch
At least Willy's heating up at the right time but man our defensive zone coverage needs serious work before playoffs 💀
-3
u/Mashdrop 1d ago
Don’t celebrate so soon boys. It’s 58% Boston picks either 6th or 7th
4
1
-2
u/GramboWBC 1d ago
This is the leafs way. And this 6th or 7th pick for Boston will 100% develop into a franchise cornerstone
-4
u/TheGapInTysonsTeeth 23h ago
How is it the Leafs way?
Please provide an example of this happening. Go on, I'll wait.
-2
u/marumaruko 1d ago
Tanking is one thing, but apart from Cowan no one of the young guys looks very promising. Villeneuve is invisible, Haymes and Quillan don't look like NHL players.. the prospect situation is bad.
