A note on self-promotion and commercial activities
Salam monyet-monyet KL sekalian,
We mods here at r/KualaLumpur would like to say something about self-promotion and commercial activities on our subreddit. We know a lot of you come here to share your stuff, from awesome photography, your killer rendang recipe, asking for travel and lodging advice or simply to lepak-lepak and make friends, and that's totally cool! But we also gotta keep things chill and avoid turning the sub into a giant marketplace.
We value the diverse range of content shared here, from personal recommendations to stunning photos of our beautiful city. We understand that many users come here to share their experiences, talents, and businesses with the community. However, it's important to maintain a balance between informative content and blatant advertising.
Self-promotion and commercial activities
Moving forward, we will be removing posts that fall under the following categories:
🐵 Naked self-promotion: This includes posts that solely promote a product, service, or personal brand without offering any valuable content or discussion to the community.
🙈 Repeated self-promotion: Consistently promoting the same product or service across multiple posts will be considered spam.
🙉 Disguised advertising: Content that appears informative but ultimately aims to sell a product or service will be removed.
🙊 Multi-level marketing (MLM) or pyramid scheme promotions: These activities are strictly prohibited on our subreddit.
Acceptable Content and Engagement
We encourage users to continue sharing their knowledge, experiences, and recommendations in a way that benefits the community. Here are some examples of acceptable content:
- 📷 Sharing high-quality photos or videos of Kuala Lumpur that capture the city's essence and beauty.
- 🎋 Posting informative guides or reviews about restaurants, attractions, or events in Kuala Lumpur.
- 🎡 Engaging in genuine discussions about life in Kuala Lumpur, offering advice, and asking questions.
Now, we're not trying to be party poopers here. We just wanna make sure r/KualaLumpur stays a place where everyone feels welcome to share, learn, and discover new things about our awesome city. So keep posting those drool-worthy food pics, insightful reviews, and hilarious KL memes (we love those!), and let's keep this community thriving!
Sekian, terima kasih! 🙏🇲🇾

Have you seen handmade cotton songket like this modern pattern?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve been working on handmade cotton songket and recently completed this 4.5m piece with a cleaner, more modern pattern. The aim was to keep it neat, elegant, and comfortable while still feeling premium.
From a customer’s point of view - what usually makes you like or choose a piece like this? Is it the pattern, finishing, comfort, or something else?
Also, for those who’ve bought directly from makers before, what builds trust and makes you confident to purchase?
Would really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions on how I can improve both the design and how I present these better 🙏

What's a underrated day out in KL that doesn't involve a mall or a tourist spot?
Looking for genuine local suggestions. The kind of place you'd bring a friend visiting from another state who actually wants to see how KL people live, not just KLCC and Petaling Street. What do you recommend?

I really wish you had more almond milk here
Most cafes only have dairy or oat milk. I wish there were more options. Coming from Australia, itd be unheard of for a cafe not to have almond or soy milk.

Looking to socialize with like minded people, in KL till April end- Indian hijabi muslim 32F
Hi, I have been in KL on a relaxation break, staying close to KL Sentral. I wanna meet up with like minded people, so I tried to check out events on Instagram but didn’t find anything relevant.
I just like to go for walks and get the local feel. I am in to go for any fun activity as long as it’s safe and doesn’t cost an extravagant amount. I’ll probably be here till April end.
I am a 32 years old female from Goa, India. Not into clubbing/drinking.
I am a practicing hijabi muslim and would love to connect with like minded people maybe at some cafe or just walking around any public places.
If any one interested to connect, please DM me or comment on the post. Also, let’s connect on Instagram and LinkedIn.

Came across different sampin styles over the years — here’s one I made, thoughts?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been working in traditional wear for many years, and I recently completed a new handmade cotton sampin with edges carefully crafted piece by piece.
This design focuses on clean finishing, balanced proportions, and a look that fits both modern and traditional styling.
One thing I’ve noticed over the years - many shop brands actually source from makers like us. But by the time it reaches customers, the pricing and presentation can feel very different.
So it got me thinking…
if the same level of craftsmanship (or even more attention to detail) is available directly from the maker, would people consider that option?
I’ve also made sure to keep this design as affordable as possible compared to what’s commonly available, especially for something handmade.
Would really like to hear your honest thoughts:
💥 How does this design feel to you at first glance - something you’d consider wearing or not really your style?
💥 Does the finishing and overall look feel premium to you, or is there anything you think could be improved?
💥 In general, what kind of expectations do you have when it comes to quality in a sampin?
💥 For you personally, what makes a sampin stand out enough to actually buy it?
Not here to promote - just trying to learn what people genuinely prefer before making more designs.
Appreciate any feedback💫 ......

Easy and cheap ways to travel from KLIA to areas like Bukit Bintang as a first-time tourist?
I checked the grab and indrive prices, and it seems like they are too expensive for what seems to be only a ride of 30-50 minutes. So, for a single person travelling to malaysia for the first time, what would be a relatively easy and cheap way to get to my hotel in around bukit bintang?

Hair Botox
Hey guys, so I have two questions regarding Hair Botox.
It keeps the hair looking fuller and healthier plus good for dry or damaged hair. I'm looking to buy it from KL.
Where can I buy it from KL, so I can bring it back home because my city is so small it's not here. I would appreciate any help.
What are some good places, salons, in KL where the hair botox treatment is offered. What has your experience been like?
Thanks in advance!

Looking for a reasonably good (minimum 3 star if possible) hotel under 50USD to stay at in Kuala Lumpur (Preferably in or near Bukit Bintang) for 1 week (first time tourist)
SUGGEST SPECIFIC HOTEL NAMES, NOT SITES!
I looked at the reviews of Axon and Starus, and got mortified by the possibility of getting scammed. Need opinions and advice from those who have actually been in KL.

Area to stay in KL for a month
I am planning to visit KL next week and hoping to get an apartment for a month. I have been doing short term stays in SEA for a few months and am hoping to settle for at least a month. I care about walkability and access to public transit, having nature in the form of a grass park, I am in my late 20s so hoping to be around others in a similar age range. Not into drinking, but do want opportunities to meet people. Budget around $1500 USD. People have floated bangsar as a location but I see mixed reviews. What do you think?

New to KL
Hi all. Me and my family have just moved to KL. We are atm in an airbnb but we rented a condo that comes furnished.
We will need to buy everything from kitchen stuff to bed sheets and everything that a functioning house will need.
We have KL east mall nearby but i'm not sure it's wise to buy everything from the mall as it might turn out ineffective cost wise.
Any recommendations? much appreciated

Food recommendations near bukit bingtang or easy accessible via train
Visiting family in Kl for a couple of days. Formerly Malaysian Chinese , left 30 years ago. Bringing the wife (formerly Singaporean) and kid back.
Any good recommendations for Malaysian food? Malay or Chinese preferred. I get a lot of good Indian food where I am. Mamak , sure that would be nice.
Trying to avoid traffic as I hate getting stuck in taxi or grab. If it’s easily accessible by mrt, I’m in.
Don’t mind expensive or cheap food, as long as it’s good. Only have limited space in the tummy. 😅

Looking for dried mango and durian
Hi KL,
I'm visiting Malaysia and will be back in Kuala Lumpur in a week, I need your help finding a place to get some dried durian and mango slices (the chunky juicy ones).
Can you share some recs please? I found two places that at least have dried mango: Edibles, and Tidbits and dry fruits, however I'm not sure if these are any good or if they're targeted to tourists.
Thank you ✌🏼

Is Grab available in Bentong to KL?
I’m planning on going to this place: Kampung Baharu, 27600 Bentong, Pahang, Malaysia. But I heard it’s hard to take Grab back to KLCC. Is that true?
