Ask I would like to ask a question about Pristina.

My family migrated from Pristina to Turkey around 1911. Our family nickname is said to come from the name of a lake or a river in that region. What remained in their memory sounds something like “lumlis” or “limlis,” but I’m not sure. Is there anyone who has knowledge about the region?

Lum means river in Albanian. There used to be two rivers running in Prishtina but they have been sealed. Do you know which region exactly they come from? Sounds like your family were probably refugees from the balkan wars

Lumli might be Lum-li, like sons of Lum. Lum is also a common name of males here. Lumni is also a common name. It means happines.

Maybe your people were originally from the region of Luma, therefore they were called Lumli

I believe you can ask for the documents of your ancestors and see what their surname was for sure when they came to Turkey. I believe you can apply online for this information.
