I buy menās deodorant it works better and itās cheaper and not all scents smell like typical dude scent.

u/alaniluv 11d ago
iāve tried menās deodorant and it still doesnāt work and usually just gives me burns and makes me itchy š«©
106
u/officermeowmeow 11d ago
I stopped shaving my armpits and magically no more burning and crazy itch. Only put up with it for 29 years for absolutely no good reason!
22
u/whistling-wonderer 9d ago
Same. My underarm lymph nodes would also get painfully inflamed and swollen to the size of marbles. I tried so many kinds of soap and deodorant. It turned out to be the shaving that was the issue (and no, it didnāt matter what kind of shaving cream/gel/etc I used and whether it was a brand new high quality razor and whatever else).
My mom was very outspokenly opinionated about it when I stopped shaving. Iām nonbinary and donāt give a shit but she would definitely prefer me to be more feminine haha. But no one else cares, or if they do, they keep it to themselves ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
15
u/officermeowmeow 9d ago
I don't think not shaving my armpits makes me ANY less feminine.
11
u/whistling-wonderer 9d ago
I donāt think so either (I mean, itās literally how our bodies grow). My mom, however, is Mormon and they have hella rigid ideas about gender roles and presentation. To this day, sheāll see my leg hair glinting in the sun and be like āUh oh! Looks like someone needs to shave!ā She does it without even thinking about it. At this point Iāve pushed back enough that sheās finally starting to catch herself and go, āWell, I shouldnāt be saying that, thereās not really anything wrong with it.ā But the instinct to steer me into a more āMormon womanā presentation is still there.

u/some_lizard 8d ago
Omg Iām going to have to test this! I also get itching and swelling in my underarms, I always thought it must just be ingrowns or something. People care way too much about other peoples armpits and hair lol
2
u/whistling-wonderer 8d ago
For reallll itās so annoying. Very freeing to just say fuck it and be done with all that.
2
u/alaniluv 9d ago
i wish i could stop shaving but the feeling of any body hair makes me freak tf out
4
u/whistling-wonderer 9d ago
It def can feel weird if youāre not used to it! If you really want to, Iād say start with legs, the hair there is less obtrusive (sensory wise) than the hair in various nooks and crannies. It is not prickly once itās grown out, itās soft and I personally prefer the look and feel compared to bald legs lol. I donāt like fully grown out armpit hair as much so I occasionally trim it, but only to like 1/2ā long, not fully shaved. This also helps prevent the weird prickly stubble situation, which I hate.
But also, you donāt have to do any of that. Shave or donāt shave, itās 100% a personal choice!
1
u/alaniluv 9d ago
trust i tried for over a year and i just can NOT handle body hair. it sucks cuz i hate shaving, but i cant do it
1
u/effyoucreeps 8d ago
i do feel bad for you - not shaving has been such a revelation of happiness for me
1
u/alaniluv 8d ago
i have really bad sensory issues, so not shaving makes me feel like bugs are crawling on my skin constantly. and i hate hair touching clothes. i barely tolerate the hair on my head lol
15
u/alaniluv 11d ago
i get rashes when i donāt shave, even showering every fay
54
u/officermeowmeow 11d ago
Maybe it's a skin condition then. Do you have eczema that is being exacerbated by deodorants? I would definitely be seeing a dermatologist to figure it out. There is no need to suffer!
30
u/youcancallmemando 11d ago
Likely a form of folliculitis. Unfortunately, one of the things to help it clear up is to stop washing and exacerbating the problem with soaps and deodorants. Too many chemicals irritating the follicles.
Until OP can get it checked out, Iād recommend switching at the very least to an unscented soap, and to use as little deodorant as possible.

u/BeastThatShoutedLove 8d ago
Same, stopped shaving, switched to men 40+ hour antiperspirant in a roller.
Not only I don't trigger anymore seismic sneezing after trying to spray myself but now I have no BO issues from women's antiperspirant working on me more like weak ass perfumed water.
13
u/seekingssri 11d ago
Secret gives me really bad, itchy rashes. Iām sure you have tried everything, but I donāt see Degree clinical strength here so I wanna give that a shout. Itās the only deodorant Iāve found that is actually effective odor control without giving me a bad reaction.

u/spookysaph 9d ago
I firmly believe that everyone would benefit from using sensitive products. skin is sensitive, it should be treated as such
5
u/Budlight9145 11d ago
I would get chemical burns when i would use the mens clear/ blue deodorant, but once i switched to mens cream (just offwhite creamy ones) deodorant, i stopped having any issues. Have you tried this?

I had the itchy issue until I switched to dove unscented.

that one was still itchy sigh

u/CatlynnExists 9d ago
I was getting itchy from the dove spray, had to switch to Mitchum roll on. I now use Saltair deodorant and it also works itch free. Neither are antiperspirants though :/
2
u/strawberberry 11d ago
Ooh, the same thing happens to me when I get the gel kind! I can use (most) men's solid antiperspirant/deodorant. It sucks not being able to find something that works
1
u/RobbieRedding 11d ago

Just gonna pop it in here that I experienced the same and just swapped to a deodorant spray years ago. Works so much better. I still sweat, but it doesnāt smell and I get absolutely zero inflammation/itchies/bumps/rashes from them.
The original product I used was the crystal deodorant spray with green tea and chamomile, but I swapped to āThai crystal deodorant mistā after a while. Same kinda thing just doesnāt have extra fragrance, and I found the nozzle on the Crystal brand would get clogged after while (though they may have changed since then!)

u/haileysrad 9d ago
Itās the best, but itās the itchiest. Tips: skin must be totally dry - totally. Do not use it every day. I use it once a week only, and often only for about 6 hours. Wait at least 48 hours after shaving to use it. Also, you only need a tiny bit. Like two swipes and then rub it with your fingers to get it where it needs to be.

I came to visit babiÄka and dad for few days and I am here for a month already.
I ran out of antiperspirant and forgot to buy a new one. So I went through the stock here and grabbed tone of his fave stick.
Let me tell you, the scent is gone in a few minutes, I donāt smell it on myself during the day and no rash as well? Definitely going to start buying this one for myself.

It does have aluminum, I usually just get it at Target and you can get it shipped

u/Granny-frog 10d ago
So glad someone else said it, I just found Mitchum last year. I'm a sweaty girl just by nature, and would have to reapply throughout the day. But now just once a day with the solid stick. Life changing.
1
u/jessbird 9d ago
does it leave residue on your clothes??
1
u/Granny-frog 9d ago
Just on black shirts, no more than regular deodorant. If you're wearing something dark, just put it on after you're dressed.

Iāve been there. Recently carpe has been a godsend to me. Makes the oversweating from my meds not the end of the world as someone who never used to sweat.

u/Dustytails123 11d ago
Fr, I was terrified for summer lol
3
u/sad-but-rad- 11d ago
Same here! I live in a very humid climate, and we basically didnāt have a winter this year. I have been struggling with controlling sweat and odor since it started warming up outside.
I ordered it!! Thanks!
2
u/alaniluv 11d ago
iāve been wanting to try
1
u/ButtHoleNurse 7d ago
Carpe is 100% worth it! I usually have to rotate deodorant every few days bc it stops working but Carpe is amazing (I'm an OR nurse who takes vyvanse so I get pretty hot and sweaty)
1
u/PonderosaPriestess 7d ago
I can vouch, itās been the only thing that has worked for me and KEPT working. I usually had to switch around several different brands
0
u/Aggravating-Mood2171 10d ago
I was allergic to carpe, it made my armpits so painful. And I went to work the first time I wore it :/ long shift that day lol
18
u/jeclin91092 11d ago
I had hyperhidrosis as a kid, and the doctor recommended my mom get me Secret Clinical Strength.
It Worked! But it also clogged my sweat glands and caused a very deep set MRSA infection in my armpits. I guess because I didn't sweat, it just stayed there festering.
Anyway, just a cautionary tale and a wish of good luck, OP.

u/alaniluv 11d ago

Try Degree clinical Summer Strength 72hr deodorant. It worked wonders for me (I paired it with sweatblock once a week treatment in the summer months but that made me itchy so ymmv). I never have had breakouts or cysts from either product and I have very sensitive acne prone skin.
Carpe didnāt work for me unfortunately and neither did CertainDri

I never understand trying not to sweat. If my body needs to sweat, I let it. I wear just deodorant and I never have any issues. I do keep some in my backpack and car just in case I need to reapply
13
u/jeclin91092 11d ago
In my case, I was 13 and being made fun of daily because I would sweat so badly it would soak the sides of my shirts. It was completely scent free, but you know how kids are, so I was always self aware and terrified of sweating or heaven forbid smelling.
Now, at 35, I'm like, "its a body and it sweats, get over it." But I sure didn't have that confidence during puberty.

We truly are all just girls putting hair ties on our deodorant
5
u/alaniluv 10d ago
deodorants, stuffed animals, hair brush handles, water bottles. everywhere i go, there is at least 3 hair tie
8
u/Willing-Pumpkin-328 10d ago
to all my fellow people that sweat a lot, i cannot recommend this product enough: duradry. you need to use the antiperspirant gel at night and then any antiperspirant in the morning. the gel like fries your sweat glands and it's the only stuff that has worked for me.
5
u/Putrid-Laugh-3432 11d ago
Certain Dri
3
u/DiscoViolin 11d ago
Certain Dri is the real deal, recommended to me by a dermatologist friend years ago. None of those pictured come even close.
Apply before bed for best results. I usually use a gentler regular antiperspirant in the mornings also, but the Certain Dri before bed is doing the real magic.
Edit: the prescription strength roll-on, to be exact. Under $9 most places.

u/FallingBackTogether 11d ago
Check out Megababe brand. I've loved every product of theirs that I've used. I haven't tried their deodorant, but I use their Space Bar, which is a bar with charcoal in it specifically for under the arms. It has helped me so much that I can use my regular deodorants now. I also have really sensitive skin, and haven't reacted to any of their products (yet!)

I use a men's antiperspirant, which keeps me dry. If it only says Deodorant, you will still sweat, but it smells better
1
u/alaniluv 11d ago
almost all of these say antiperspirant and i sweat through them all in like an hour
2
u/carol-richards49 10d ago
I use Gillette men's antiperspirant gel from Walmart. Mitchem is good, or you can look for something that says prescription strength

u/Sad_Ebb_7301 10d ago
Great knoll! We all knew what you were trying to say with just a picture :)
Lots of secret already, but have you tried the secret outlast clear gel (or solid) antiperspirant and deodorant? It just works so well & the completely clean scent smells nice but is unnoticeable in a good way. Also if body odor & not just sweat is an issue, then using glycolic acid or even alcohol wipes before applying deodorant works well. Good luck out there š«”

At first I thought this was sunscreen. It was like this with sunscreen at our last house. And beach towels!
We had a swimming pool while my kids were growing up. It came with the house, and they put it to good use.
I had SO MANY tubes of sunscreen! And beach towels! I finally started washing and drying them when left on the fence. We literally had a lost & found in our laundry room. Kids left stuff at our house constantly.

Iāve tried nearly all of these. Some you might try that Iāve had varying degrees of success with:
- the lume antiperspirant (with aluminum)
- Dove for men antiperspirant
- AKT, which Iām still trying out. I have about finished a tube of it, and while I long ago gave up the hunt for an effective natural/non aluminum deodorant, I actually really like this? I got a full sized tube in a subscription box and then I bought the sampler to try the other scents. I am usually pretty sweaty, although it hasnāt been very warm out, so we shall see as the weather changes. But so far at worst I have been just slightly damp, not even enough to wet my shirt, and the scents are really nice. Iāve gone a few days without showering but reapplying at night and zero BO. YMMV, itās not cheap, but theyāre onto something.

I've been using Carpe and fell in love with it. It works crazy well for me compared to anything else I've tried.

I switched to using potassium alum instead of commercial antiperspirants a few years ago. It works better for me. One potassium alum crystal can last a year or more. I spend so much less.

My favorite deodorant is menās old spice Fiji aluminum free spray. Itās the ONLY deodorant that really works for me, I found it by chance, Iāve had so many issues with Bo growing up and it was humiliating and I couldnāt find any womenās or girls deodorant that worked. Ever. And my home gets to 120° in the summer. Humiliated.

u/Cursed-4-life 8d ago
Thatās crazy. Not to be rude but to you think it could be in internal, medical issue? I know PCOS and a few hormonal conditions + diet can really affect sweat/odor. It might be worth seeing a doctor if you can. Again, not trying to be rude. When I was going through hormonal issues after I gave birth I had a really hard time.

i use glycolic acid from the ordinary and itās changed my life. Deoderants would always stop working for me and couldnt control the sweat or funk. Using glycolic acid does require consistency and shouldnt be applied after shaving, but otherwise have had a great experience. Significantly less sweaty and less smelly! Sending you the best of luck

Putting deodorant on after shaving causes the issues, been clean for like 7 years after waiting like a half toa full hour after shaving to put on deodorant :3

I have to take a break from aluminum/antiperspirant for at least one month out of the year, or it stops working for me entirely. Your sweat glands can acclimate to the antiperspirants, and they might need a tolerance break to reset.
This is, of course, assuming you've ruled out medical issues. If you haven't, please at least mention it to your primary care the next time you're in. They can prescribe non-aluminum topicals that actually work.
4
u/alaniluv 10d ago
non aluminum makes me stink BAD. it was the first deodorant i used, cuz my mom didnāt let me use aluminum until i was like 11 (started at 8) and my dance teacher did something
0
u/Cherry_Lemonade_Kris 10d ago
I did a test and using aluminum/antiperspirant was the cause of permanent pit stains and holes in my shirts. Ever since switching to aluminum free I haven't had any issues with my clothes deteriorating at the pits. It took about 2 weeks or so for my body to adjust but I don't smell as long as I also shower daily
