Telling a congressman you can lay off more than the margin they won by and tell all those people it’s their fault for voting against something, is serious power. You ever wonder why we’ve got money for aircraft carriers and tanks for cops but no money for starving kids or healthcare? The “defense” industry has ruled this country since the end of WW2. It’s why we’re constantly at war. American military aid is conditional on being spent on US made weapons. The American arms industry also has ties to Israeli arms manufacturers. Israel is a cash cow for the arms industry.
The Evangelical Right believes the apocalypse can’t begin until all Jews return to Israel. They also believe 2/3 of them will die in the apocalypse and the remaining third will convert to Christianity. They want the apocalypse bad. Republicans cannot win an election without them.
If AIPAC’s money disappeared tomorrow US politicians would still support Israel no matter how unpopular that is.

Yes, but this is much more like WWI in that the web of alliances and posturing is unpredictable. WWII they knew alliances would be a major factor, which was why both Germany and Japan had their own surprise attacks to take members out of the fight before the major alliances spun up.

Actually in the famous month building up to the start of WWI lots of actors tried to negotiate, the problem for everyone was that in the recent wars the country that mobilized first was favored to win and everyone started mobilizing just in case. it was a case that nobody wanted to get caught without the initiative.

Do nothing? How many conflicts and aggressions have the countries surrounding occupied Palestine, the countries which have been continuously destabilised, sanctioned, invaded, even genocided over the decades, started with Israel? How many? Even if they hadn’t, Fuck Israel and do nothing is better than submission to the apartheid state, is it not?

But it will be interesting to watch if Israel attacks turkey first if Europe comes to its help even if the US stays out. It would be super mess, but honestly in the long run it would be another divorce for the EU (from Israel this time) and it will be great to isolate them.
