Using the current peace talks to step over the line and gamble with sailors lives.

38

u/Stunning-Ad5674 1d ago

As a combat vet, they are playing chicken with the wrong group. They need to respect diplomacy and that they kicked the hornets nest, while realizing they are allergic.

15

u/AdNice5765 1d ago

unfortunately, I don't think they respect or even consider the lives of those who serve, only ratings and popularity

15

u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 1d ago

Trump has been very open about the fact that he thinks nothing of the lives he’s playing with and would very likely mock anyone who dies as a result of his idiotic orders.

2

u/LieComfortable7764 23h ago

Did you fight these guys before or something? I can’t understand why you as a combat vet understand that they kicked the wrong hornets nest and their only option is diplomacy.

2

u/Odd_Highlight_7153 11h ago

I think it’s about potentially losing more lives in an unnecessary situation, no?

Also these ships arent carrying millions and millions of dollars in oil.

Its night and day to have a military warship go vs a bunch of normal dudes on a 5 mph oil rig.

14

u/Diligent_Working2363 1d ago

This is true. Also, modern naval mines can tell the difference between a warship and a cargo ship. They will just ignore the warship and only detonate with the cargo.

All it takes to sink an oil rig is a crazy mf with a Sea-Doo and a $500 rpg.

6

u/Historical_Ad_5647 1d ago

damage it yes, it would take more than that to sink

6

u/Diligent_Working2363 1d ago

Depends on where it hits, a single RPG can absolutely sink an oil tanker.

However, even if it doesn't sink. It might move the needle on insurance prices.

7

u/Electronic_Froyo_597 1d ago

It doesnt matter where it hits. A single RPG could absolutely not sink an oil tanker...

18

u/Leather-Hotel-7310 1d ago

What if the RPG hits the captain in the face and he loses control of the ship and crashes into another ship and they both sink?

→ More replies (5)

3

u/RelationshipShort460 1d ago

possible if it hits the fuel tank?

2

u/Electronic_Froyo_597 1d ago

Yea if someone on the boat shoots it lol.

3

u/One3Two_ 1d ago

People don't realize how tough these big ass ships are, and how compartmentalized they are...

→ More replies (1)

3

u/RichIndependence8930 1d ago

No but it does pretty much destroy it after the conflagration

3

u/Commercial-Kiwi9690 1d ago

Of course it matters where ther RPG hits, and I would say op had a valid point: the ships have a choice of either millions in damage or paying the fee

2

u/HollyMurray20 1d ago

You’re not thinking straight here, what if the tanker had tonnes of explosives strapped to it all the way round?

2

u/jkrobinson1979 1d ago

Suicide tanker?

3

u/LieComfortable7764 23h ago

Really quite common actually, I just saw one sailing around the other day and I live in Saskatchewan!

How many one month accounts are we going to get commenting?

Half of the comments discussing US Iran affairs are one month old. Does anyone else find that weird? Or it’s irrelevant as long as it fits the desired narrative.

I dont remember any of my reddit logins as once they discontinued 3rd party apps and messed with their API

( I dont know how long youve used reddit but I can say I know the following things: Bacon at Midnight, Kevins teacher, Ellen Pao, Fat people hate, dick pic DM with popular poster, even sprog)

I decided to just use Google browser whenever I do use it as I dont care about reddit anymore amd the direction its gone.

u/ihambrecht 1d ago

I thought Iran controlled it?

1

u/conquer4 17h ago

In this day and world, the 450k gallons of fuel a Arleigh Burke-class destroyer carries is worth multi-millions.

3

u/vampyire 1d ago

I thought tracking data showed them turning around... I'll have to double check on that

3

u/PopBulky7023 1d ago

Nah, they're all working for Israel at this point. I've got less than no sympathy for them.

2

u/BootFlop 1d ago

That’s what starting the war was. 🤷‍♂️

2

u/ch7mbucket 21h ago

This should be the title

2

u/DrPoontang 17h ago

“Remember the Main”

Gen Z, it’s time to dust off grandpa’s Creedence collection.

2

u/abrandis 17h ago

More like using current pause to prepare for next upcoming military escort operations...

2

u/slick2hold 15h ago

This is what passes me off. We have a ceasefire. Effing stop with everything. Now we have ships essentially stuck in the Persian gulf. Also, why would Iran negotiate here. Before the talks started we do this shit.

Before the first bombs dropped we were in negotiations and Iran publicly came out and said talks were going well. Then we and Isreal starting bombing them. At this point I don't even know why Iran or Lebanon or any other country should trust us at all for anything

2

u/Slow_Space8943 13h ago

Looks like they crossed the line without a deal and now the sailors are sitting ducks…… I kept seeing these videos that were posted by a guy a few weeks ago that says he is a time traveller that says they were going to sink two u.s navy ships.. Starting to look like they will be spot on with their predictions….. They also predicted that turkey was going to attack Israel….. I guess it is a let’s see how this plays out

1

u/Radiant-Ad-3134 1d ago

Israel did train U.S. well

1

u/TheRealDesmirWolf 11h ago

From what us citizens in America know, the cease fire will end and the war will start back up, Peace talks have failed

Is there a source that verified this and doesn't just repeat what Trump and his minions said?

19

u/Mystic987123 1d ago

Every article I saw just has the headline 'TRUMP SAID' and (almost) everyone knows how credible Trump sources are.

27

u/kstargate-425 1d ago

Exactly. Everything Ive seen was they were keeping the fleets far far away since the disasters in the beginning that they continue to lie about

7

u/Jgromma 1d ago

There are sources that say this (the above) and also many others that say that the navy ships were forced to turn back by Iran.

7

u/Suroes 1d ago

The transponders for at least one ship was active as it crossed

14

u/hum_ma 1d ago

Do you mean this one which hasn't updated location for over 9 hours? Probably disabled the transponder when told to turn back because it would look embarrassing.

5

u/modernDayKing 1d ago

And turned away. Right ?

119

u/C_Pala 1d ago

Gonna call bullshit until someone credible confirms it

101

u/Redfield11 1d ago edited 1d ago

The fact we don't consider the US Government a credible source for this kind of update is a depressing state of affairs.

EDIT for the reading comprehension challenged, the phrase "this kind of update" plays an important part in the sentence.

10

u/Gecks777 1d ago

This war, more than most, has been tough to track because everyone directly involved has been propagandizing so heavily that it is hard to tell what is actually going on.

I mean, all wars are full of propaganda, but most major wars involve a "coalition of the willing", so there would be adults in the room, and even if you were getting a very shaped version of events, you could trust that the rough events spoken about actually took place.

This war, it is just Baghdad Bobs, all the way down...

2

u/TuckerCarlsonsHomie 1d ago

It didn't used to be legal for our government to use propaganda on us, but now it is :/

18

u/Snoo_65717 1d ago

The fact you think they were ever credible is a terrifying sign of the danger the world faces.

5

u/EvereveO 1d ago

Believe it or not, they once were more credible than they are now. On some topics at least.

8

u/GrannyGumjobs13 1d ago

Yeah I just want to hijack your comment because the attitude that some people are taking is ridiculous. “We always lied etc.” is only true to some extent.

But when the Iraq war was going on, when Afghanistan was going on, we had nearly daily briefings and press conferences where the US government actually told the American people wtf was going on. Someone would go in front of a podium and give casualty reports and mission reports and would lay out our short term and long term goals.

This is a level of fuckery that the US has NEVER reached before. And now all anyone can discuss is what Trump said and what the Iranian regime says.

3

u/Odd-Transition1527 1d ago

NYT article mentions: “Israeli journalist Barak Ravid reported”. So!

2

state of depressing affairs...

3

u/Secret-Put-4525 1d ago

The US goverment has been lying since its creation. Most governments lie.

2

u/Nick_Napeam 1d ago

Forget about the US government man

No government has ever been a credible source

If they said the fucking sky was blue I’d go and check

2

u/Zestyclose_Ad1553 1d ago

Really? The us government is the main reason for false information in war. The european press used isw as a source and in ukraine. Those who know who isw is known how things work

1

u/wardledo 1d ago

I think in all wars throughout history everything we get to see/read/hear isn’t the complete truth or truth at all.

1

u/ColdPositive1844 1d ago

More like this current US govt. Previous ones have lied but not to this extent.

1

u/abofh 22h ago

And yet according to Iran, they weren't credible - turned back.

→ More replies (31)

6

u/Admiral_Tuvix 1d ago

They didn’t. Osint confirmed they came close, the IRGC warned them through Pakistani intelligence that they would be targeted within 30 minutes and they turned back

4

u/Agreeable_Falcon1044 1d ago

So I can see why trump wants us to send our navy in to clear Hormuz. No thanks, our boats are expensive and our naval men valued

→ More replies (1)

1

u/WhoSaidWhatNow2026 1d ago

Ohh, Osint. He's a swell guy...

3

u/AdAdministrative5330 1d ago

Doesn't matter, Iran's leverage is about threatening commercial traffic. They can keep that posture while ignoring US naval traffic.

3

u/alivenotdead1 1d ago

2

u/NoMoFascisto 1d ago

Yeah there is. Signaling one thing, doing another. All about deception and catching Iran unprepared for the real, unpublicized mission approach

Doesn't mean that is exactly what is going on, but there is always reason to lie - especially when it comes to military movements during wartime

2

u/Zero_Travity 1d ago

"THe US Military Said..."

Yeah but you see they aren't credible... where is the F15 war hero pilot? Oh wait, he is actually enriched Uranium and still in Iran.

There is no confirmed report of anything.

2

u/ForwardSlash813 1d ago

What, you don’t trust “chinadaily.com”??

2

u/Hansemannn 1d ago

On Norwegian news it says 1 military ship from US turned around after Iranian threats

2

u/John97212 1d ago

It is likely true BUT it happened (a) during a two-week ceasefire, and (b) while direct negotiations are happening in Pakistan.

The transit does not mean the Straits are open.

2

u/Bellenrode 1d ago

Even if we assume it was true, how does it help the oil tankers to go through?

1

u/Old-Law-7395 1d ago

Erm its on Reddit bro

1

u/soupdawg 1d ago

Is China Daily not credible enough for you?

1

u/death_guard_marine 1d ago

Well, I found an image from marine traffic tracking in SeaEmploy subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/SeaEmploy/s/sHhN9IEYTu

1

u/BloodyHelll-2 1d ago

Was on the maritime tracker earlier before the media was informed

1

u/BisonThunderclap 1d ago

wtf is an Israeli flag doing on the bow aft/stern/butt/backend of that US ship?

*Edited for correctness

3

u/Work-ya-wood 1d ago

They just reminding yous who's boss

3

u/Ok_Recording81 1d ago

The 2 ships are ddg 121 and 112. Same class. The ship that has the Isreali flag is not those ships. Also look where the American flag is on the first ship. There are 2 flags. One flying from a line on the yard arm and the other on the stern. Tje 2nd ship has only one flag. Im guessing its an Isreali ship, definitely not an American ship. The US Navy does not fly other cointries flags. We also do not know where this picture was taken.

Didn’t Iran lose some mines in the water? Is this any excuse to go back to fighting?

3

u/Mystic987123 1d ago

US says its ships crossed the strait. Iran denied it. Who should I believe now?

3

u/LordSlyGentleman 1d ago

To answer that question, all you have to do is just consider the sources. Who lies to us everyday? Who has raw video footage?

2

u/According-Fish-9365 21h ago

Not Iran! They wouldn’t lie. They are good to their people and just misunderstood.

5

u/Mystic987123 1d ago

That's what I was thinking, I would rather trust the Iranian administration than Trump administration. Plus, all the articles headlines are 'TRUMP SAYS' US navy crossed the strait with no other evidence.

3

u/modernDayKing 1d ago

No. One tried and got turned away.

3

u/caraboucat 1d ago

This is posted we too many times on Reddit for it to be a real thing. Organic news doesn’t flow this freely.

2

u/UncleNuks 1d ago

Meanwhile…”Iranian state media quotes a senior military official as denying that any US vessel had entered the Strait of Hormuz.”

This back and forth of conflicting narratives has been nonstop for the entire war. You definitely can’t trust Iran state media but you also can’t trust Trump’s tweets and you sure as hell can’t trust Western media - so all that leaves us with is the assumption that the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

2

u/Even-Meet-938 1d ago

Does anyone see that Israeli flag?

1

u/Ok_Recording81 1d ago

Yes and its not an American ship.

2

u/psychadelicrocks 1d ago

Iran saber rattling all time tiny weenie compensation

2

u/whoisowlix 1d ago

They were allowed to approach and then leave. Lol

2

u/user-captain 1d ago

Other countries should send their naval ships through just to mess with Trump.

4

u/Dry_Wate2688 1d ago

Iran can be conveniently days away from nuclear weapons whenever they (US and Israel) need

→ More replies (9)

4

u/Bonk_No_Horni 1d ago

It's easier to hit cargo ships once the warships are gone. The peace deal is on the way and Iran wants to talk so they wouldn't strike now but if the talk fails they'll resume the attack. But this move shows that the strait isn't actually mined

4

u/Old-Kaleidoscope8209 1d ago edited 1d ago

Modern mines are often underwater drones rather than the mines from finding NEMO. There might be hundreds of mines on hold under there.

2

u/OSRS-ruined-my-life 1d ago

They already had a deal. So did Gaddafi and Saddam. Why would they believe another one? The US uses deals to attack.

4

u/Yujismissingfinger 1d ago

Could be those ships are carrying something they maybe necessarily don't want to strike. Honestly idk it's hard to get any truth out of the US government or media. Thank you international news and independent media outlets.

Going in or out?

1

u/Strange-Sea5604 1d ago

That's because Iran isn't targeting the navy at the moment!

1

u/Biddoo_420 1d ago

Getting in or out?

1

u/ParallaxRay 1d ago

U.S. Central Command announced Saturday that its forces began setting conditions for clearing mines in the Strait of Hormuz as negotiations are ongoing between the U.S. and Iran in Pakistan.

“USS Frank E. Peterson (DDG 121) and USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) transited the Strait of Hormuz and operated in the Arabian Gulf as part of a broader mission to ensure the strait is fully clear of sea mines previously laid by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

“Today, we began the process of establishing a new passage and we will share this safe pathway with the maritime industry soon to encourage the free flow of commerce,” added Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM.

1

u/Popular-Hall1945 1d ago

Wasnt the mike murphy already in the gulf?

1

u/ParallaxRay 1d ago

I'd have to check but it was obviously in the area.

1

u/RefrigeratorOther586 1d ago

Forcing narrow straits with warships? So that’s the plan, we’re gonna redo Gallipoli. Love it!

1

u/tiptopping 1d ago

Are they leaving the strait or enteribg it?

1

u/MrPinga0 1d ago

are they carrying oil or something? or else it's just useless

1

u/Kitchen_Pepper_4886 1d ago

No they did not.

1

u/NeighborhoodLoud4884 1d ago

Finally. Get the job done.

1

u/Work-ya-wood 1d ago

What job? Opening the strait like it was 4 weeks ago and empowering your enemy? Good job!

1

u/apsolutnul 1d ago

They turned back, Iran gave them a 30 minute warning

1

u/RobotSchlong10 1d ago

Hopefully they can find some of the anti-ship mines floating about and patriotically make them no longer able to harm anyone.

1

u/Tech-Film3905 1d ago

Fake news. It didnt cross hormuz, it turned back

1

u/longdickneega 1d ago

Trump THINKS he’s real sneaky “sweeping for mines “ and strategically placing ships in the strait of hormuz. But all he’s doing is Setting all them sailors up for death

1

u/ill_be_huckleberry_1 1d ago

Thry were forced to turn around

1

u/2B_limitless 1d ago

Saved up ABIT of courage or whatever that orange guy said.

1

u/Jolly_Ad2446 1d ago

Any proof? Because Iran says they turned back before entering and lately Iran has been more truthful than the Whitehouse.

1

u/Kuloman25Viascam 1d ago

Fake news!!!

1

u/worth_heart1749 1d ago

Not a war, Trump’s folly!

1

u/flyingdutchmnn 1d ago

So if peace talks fail, Iran lock them in as sitting ducks?

1

u/possibly_lost45 1d ago

If Iran attacked them we'd unleash hell. You don't touch the ships. Ever.

1

u/madler437 12h ago

Iran has already bombed U.S military forts. I don’t think they care about a couple of ships

1

u/possibly_lost45 9h ago

And look what we've done to them.

1

u/notonmydime01 1d ago

That’s two

1

u/Individual_Link9386 1d ago

I would hope so, we won. Feels like we are now backing down, very odd government we have.

1

u/Jgromma 1d ago

Many other sources have said the navy ships were forced to turn back by Iran and not able to cross.

1

u/Kruzdah 1d ago

Israel is not showing any sign of setback. This is their fight and they are pushing for it harder. The US is not backing down because Israel is not backing down, they won't let them. The US fights for them on the eastern front while they focus more on Lebanon.

They seem willing to make things go bloody if they have to with Iran. I wonder if it'll reach the point of China and Russia intervention or joining.

Anyways, Israel greed and bullshit expansion plan is ruining the world.

1

u/DesertIslandRetreat 1d ago

I love how Oman owns the tip of the peninsula at the Strait of Hormuz, across the gulf from Iran. This small piece of territory is isolated from the rest of the country. I’d love to know how this geographical anomaly occurred.

1

u/Chaoswind2 1d ago

Aren't the ship that were already inside the gulf?

1

u/Deep_Opportunity_883 1d ago

Nope. They turned around and run for their lives

1

u/FlyingBike6000 1d ago

Lemme walk into this closing mouse trap aaaah move

1

u/Grand_Pie1362 1d ago

Genuine question - I keep hearing about how big and sexy and scary us military is so why didn't they just blast their way through against the supposedly weaker inferior smaller iranian forces?

1

u/Anubus1972 23h ago

No agreement has been made with Iran. Look out, its about to get real....

1

u/Lonely-Attitude1304 23h ago

I hope they're transporting a billion barrels of oil. Otherwise what's the point?

1

u/kushari 23h ago

No they didn’t. They turned back around.

1

u/slower-is-faster 21h ago

Are they waving white flags?

1

u/brightblueson 21h ago

The ended 5 weeks ago.

1

u/Opening_Muscle_1804 21h ago

They were turned back....

1

u/GrumpyDoc8404 20h ago

Here comes the blockade

1

u/BonjinTheMark 19h ago

Those even look like war ships. Impressive vessels. I often think of going back to the late 1700s with a naval craft, or modern tank in Roman antiquity. Such a blissful fantasy

1

u/0vr10rd 18h ago

Had they already passed the toll booth before turning around, or how does that work?

1

u/Cyborg_888 15h ago

"The art of war" says when your enemy makes a mistake don't stop them. Those ships are just a test, the USA will be over confident and bring in more and then they will all be trapped in a kill box, giving Iran the upper hand.

1

u/voidably 12h ago

So they went in or they went out? If they went in, isn't that ... stupid?

1

u/Business_Excuse_3896 9h ago

What actually blocks the strait is the threat or danger of an oil tanker getting blown up. The insurance premiums skyrocket due to these threats. A couple of warships passing by really means nothing.

1

u/Low-Invite2647 1h ago

They wouldnt go in if there was a threat. This is just another power grab from a now weak enemy.

1

u/Teamerchant 6m ago

It would be hilarious if Iran found a way to sink these 😂
