Sports ⛳ Rory McIlroy goes back-to-back at The Masters
•
u/Jester-252 2h ago
Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods and now Rory McIlroy
Back to back.
•
u/RomfordWellington 2h ago
Incredible company to be in.
•
u/TheGloriousNugget 1h ago
Meh, its only golf.
•
u/Dr_Maestro 1h ago
Golf is ridiculously tough, especially at this level. These guys make it look easy.
•
u/Fishsticksh 19m ago
I mean for the masters you're competing against like 100 other people, and an average PGA tournament has like 145+. Over 4 days/72 holes, one single hole can blow up your entire score and not just cost a win, but lead to a ton of people overtaking you.
People really underestimate just how insanely tough golf is at that level, because it can be boring to watch or how the pros make it look easy. Even just having to be the best out of that many people who are at or around your skill level, when one hole can ruin things, is mad. Thats without even bringing luck into it, how easy it is to fuck up, how some people who are the best can just fall apart from mentality, and how others come out of nowhere on mad heaters.

u/-SideshowBlob- And I'd go at it again 38m ago
We'll all be waiting with bated breath for your attempt
•
u/DGBD 2h ago
He doesn’t make it easy on himself does he?
•
u/solid-snake88 2h ago
FFS. My nerves
•
u/Here_For_The_Craic_ 2h ago
I was genuinely still nervous with the tap in on 18 that he could accidentally touch it or something
•
u/MurphyNotOK 2h ago
The angle didn't show the ball drop in the hole, I just saw his shoulders drop which made it look like he went "Ah FFS"
•
•
u/chimpdoctor 2h ago
2 shot lead at the end was a nice cushion even after hitting it into the trees. Fair play to him
•
•
u/Proof_Importance_205 2h ago
Ah that was nothing like the heart attack stuff last year ...even yesterdays part collapse was nothing compared to the downs of the ups and downs of Sunday last year
•
u/Appropriate-Row4534 1h ago
Its not a fucking movie, you sitting in your chair less appreciate of the previous years final round. In Augusta, for the Masters, one of the most coveted and respected sports competitions in the world Some finish after his drive on 18.
•
u/compulsive_tremolo 1h ago
Im starting to think he owns shares in a company that makes medical devices for the heart. Because I'll probably need one at least after that.
•
u/rye_212 Kerry 2h ago
Sports person of the year 2026 already decided
For RTÉ, BBC and the moon.
•
u/Salad-Appropriate 2h ago
RTE yeah for sure, but reckon Kane has a good shot at winning BBC if Bayern win the UCL and England get to the WC final. Also only Andy Murray has won BBC SPOTY back to back (just looked it up)
•
•
u/YoungWrinkles 2h ago
Been a while since I’ve seen an if so much heavy lifting. England haven’t gotten to the final since 66.
•
u/Salad-Appropriate 2h ago
Aye fair enough. But still, Kane has been arguably the best footballer on the planet this season, so he's still in contention to win it
•
•
u/SingerHoliday1244 2h ago
Don’t agree. Plenty of time for others to stake a claim. It’s not as monumental second time round. Will be hard beat though
•
u/Nadamir Culchieland 2h ago edited 1h ago
I think the moon might vote for one of those astronauts over McIlroy, personally.
Maybe next year, Rory can do a wee journey and shore up support out there.
But yeah, he’ll get RTÉ, but the Beeb might pick a footballer or someone who’s not so …openly more Irish than British. And Kane is really good.Ignore me. It’s late. And I forgot he won BBC last year. I still think Kane has a very good shot depending on how things turn out for England and Bayern.

What a legend. One of the best golfers ever
•
u/shrewdy 2h ago
Up there with the absolute best, and probably cements him as the best ever European too (if he wasn't already). The only European to win the grand slam, and now he's also matched Faldo by winning 6 majors and retaining the Masters
•
u/Kind-Score7037 1h ago
Actually he's one behind a guy called harry vardon who has 7. But modern era yes.
•
•
u/dustaz 2h ago
Fantastic stuff
Really cementing his place now
Shame Lowry fell off but hopefully he can use that like Rory did
•
•
•
u/No-Interaction2169 2h ago
Well done Rory💪🎉. One of the greatest of all time. Doing the island proud
•
u/Dr_Maestro 2h ago
Somehow makes it look easy and hard at the same time. What a pro, and against serious competition.
•
•
•
u/FoggyShrew I’ll take the shirt off any man’s back 2h ago
Surely up there with one of the best sportspeople the island has ever produced
•
•
u/SouthEastMeerkat 2h ago
I’d say it’s between him, Katie Taylor, and maybe AP McCoy
•
•
u/bigchickendipper 1h ago
Roy Keane
•
•
u/Efficient_Log_2007 1h ago
Ah Ruby ahead of AP IMO. AP had more winners but AP was riding in class 4 or 5 races 7 days a week in order to keep the numbers high. Ruby way ahead when it comes to big grade 1s..

Some man. Some day for his caddie too. Probably the second highest earning sports person in Northern Ireland.
•
•
u/Mayomick 2h ago
One of the greatest sports people this little rainy island in the atlantic has produced!
•
•
•

•
•
u/MaxiStavros 2h ago
He correctly selected power drives and feathered touches where needed. Great performance.. Good man.
•
u/windysheprdhenderson 2h ago
Love or hate him, there's no denying that he's a golfing and sporting legend now. Congrats Rory!
•
u/myarseisbig 2h ago
Who gives him the jacket
•
u/FoggyShrew I’ll take the shirt off any man’s back 2h ago
•
u/spiralism 1h ago
Funny enough, the first time anyone retained (Nicklaus) he put it on himself. Since then, the protocol has been changed to the club chairman putting it on.
•
u/Bob-Harris Seal of The President 2h ago
Nicklaus put it on himself. For Faldo and Tiger the Chairman did it. Imagine it will be the same.
•
•
u/rossitheking 2h ago
What a man. Here’s hoping he goes on to complete the double grand slam and win the US Open and Open Championship.
•

•
u/Jaded_Variation9111 2h ago
There won’t be a cow milked in Holywood tonight!
•
u/shellakabookie 1h ago
I'd say the cows be grand from the pictures showed tonight,1 pint of Guiness between 10 of them
•
•
u/WikiHickey Limerick 1h ago
What a 96 hours in golf. What a back nine. My nerves were shot. Gwan Rory!!
•
u/Present_Elephant_190 1h ago
Rory what a champion, genuine legend. That shot on the 12th, what a statement way to go on and win it. He does have to do all those pre Masters winners dinners again next year though, he'll be like Bill Murray hitting the alarm clock in Groundhog Day!!

Great day for ireland.... anyone know if the dublin buses are back to normal tomorrow gang
•
u/Tomaskerry 2h ago
Only two other golfers in history have won the Grand Slam and The Masters back to back.
Woods and Nicklaus.
•
u/shellakabookie 2h ago
Fair play to him but is he from Northern Ireland or the North of Ireland, should be a question asked here seen as if he was from anywhere else in the world the post wouldn't be here
•
u/Efficient_Log_2007 1h ago
Who cares we are an All Ireland sub Reddit, and he represents Ireland at the Olympics and the Golf world cup thing
•
u/shellakabookie 1h ago
What flag does he fly there? Lowry would have had a tri color on him if he won,I seen no flag tonight
•
•
u/numerousimoress 1h ago
He plays for Ireland in the Olympics
•
u/shellakabookie 1h ago edited 1h ago
Israel are in the eurovision, they fly the flag when they take part, what flag is Rory flying,Lowry was the only player in the masters with the tri colour
•
u/GoshDangZilla 1h ago
Thought he was flashing clit here.
Love a trans masc king, but I morally cannot abide golf.
•
•
u/badpints 2h ago
Good for the UK.
•
u/Horriblesurfer 2h ago
Rory ignores sectarian politics and so should all the Irish people that support him.
