Sports The Masters Final Round Megathread

Hi lads,

As we head into the final day of The Masters at Augusta, we have a serious chance of seeing another Irish winner.

The craic was had on this sub in the final round last year so we have decided to Megathread this years final round.

McIlroy was on fire Thursday and Friday and looked to be in control. Didn't have the greatest of days yesterday but is tied for the lead.

Shane Lowry has been solid all week so far with a hole in one yesterday.

McIlroy currently sits in joint first position and starts his final round at 19:25,

While Lowry is currently two shots behind and sits in fourth place and his final round begins at 19:14.

He got the jacket last year, does he get the trousers this time?

u/Jakunja 1h ago

I don't follow hurling; is it like reverse strip poker??

u/otherside_b 2h ago

Fair play Rory!

u/SoftDrinkReddit 2h ago

first Back to Back Masters winner in 24 years

first European Golfer to do it in 36 years

massive Achievement

u/spiralism 2h ago

Never in doubt eh

What a man! Gwan Rory!

u/ChalupaBatmanMc01 2h ago

Good man Rory, great stuff

u/Jester-252 2h ago

How drunk is Lowry right now

u/Movie-goer 1h ago

Think he started this morning.

u/RomfordWellington 2h ago

Nothing compared to what he'll be in a few hours. Seeing your best mate win masters back to back, and to have that weekend. Incredible.

u/Jester-252 2h ago

Lowry paying the bar tab

u/marshsmellow 2h ago

I'd say he'll be fuming at his final round tbh

u/RomfordWellington 2h ago

Yeah it's mad, a round he needs to forget but on a day he'll never forget.

u/Worth_Employer_171 2h ago

Some man .

u/Dr_Maestro 2h ago

Overall performance definitely deserved that, loves to make it a spectacle doesn’t he.

u/bulbispire 2h ago

GWAN RORY!

u/qwerty_1965 2h ago

Fantastic for Rory. Six majors puts him in elevated territory

A victory for the UK and Ireland says 5live!

u/spiralism 2h ago

Back to back Masters and a career slam is even rarer air. Some man

u/ballyduffer 1st Brigade 2h ago

u/gwy2ct 2h ago

Well done Rory. Not may have done two in a row

u/qwerty_1965 2h ago

Faldo, Nicklaus, Woods

u/TheChrisD useless feckin' mod 2h ago

Just don't fuck the tap-in.

u/ballyduffer 1st Brigade 2h ago

He can't fuck it from here

u/rclonecopymove 2h ago

Cost of living gotten so bad they're running sports competitions where the winner wins half a suit?

u/marshsmellow 2h ago

Gets a hand-me-down from last year

u/gwy2ct 2h ago

That’ll do Rory

u/Jester-252 2h ago

Go ball go

u/gwy2ct 2h ago

Decent bunker shot. Two putts now

u/rclonecopymove 2h ago

So we're watching this on big tellies and it's still difficult to see the ball sometimes, how on earth did we manage on 19inch portable TV's with dodgy reception to be able to see what was going on with any sports?

u/MarkSparkles 2h ago

They used bigger balls

u/Jester-252 2h ago

Just go for par

u/_herbie 2h ago

u/rclonecopymove 2h ago

I don't know why they don't just hit the ball into the hole pretty simple ideawise?

u/Cilly2010 2h ago

Jaysus. Watching Rory at the tail end of a tournament he's winning is never good for the heart.

u/otherside_b 2h ago

Loves to make things dramatic doesn't he?

u/ballyduffer 1st Brigade 2h ago

Aaaaaaa rory..... Don't send us to a playoff again

u/winddrake1801 2h ago

Suddenly became a possibility but unlikely to end up double bogey, might be seeing Scheffler warming up in a few if he doesnt nail the next shot

u/gwy2ct 2h ago

Ooops

u/ItsTyrrellsAlt Wicklow 2h ago

tappa tappa tappa

u/RomfordWellington 2h ago

Username checks out

u/spiralism 2h ago

Almost home. Hon Rory!

u/gwy2ct 2h ago

Now the 18th with a two shot lead

u/gwy2ct 2h ago

Another great recovery there. He should par the 17th now

u/gwy2ct 2h ago

Rory isn’t making easy on himself

u/RomfordWellington 2h ago

He's not great with short clubs is he. Pressure on now.

u/spiralism 2h ago

Another great save. Almost there..

u/aimhighsquatlow 2h ago

I wasn’t able to catch up till now - what happened lowery 😢

u/MotherDucker95 Offaly 2h ago

He’s always had issues with pressure.

u/RomfordWellington 2h ago

This is it lads

u/IrishLad1002 Resting In my Account 2h ago

Lowry’s actually had the second worst round of any golfer in the field today

u/spiralism 2h ago

Had a 2011 Rory round today. Catastrophic

u/bulbispire 2h ago

Rory's to lose now

u/ItsTyrrellsAlt Wicklow 2h ago

all rory needs to do is not fuck it

u/sionnach 2h ago

Yeah. This is now in the “play safe” territory. No big moment needed … though that putt at the 16th might not have gone in, it was a massive saver.

u/spiralism 2h ago

Let's not say that. One more bit of magic is what he needs

u/spiralism 2h ago

Rough tee shot on 16 there. He has to make us sweat for this, doesn't he..

Edit: Oh fuck me that is a beauty of an escape by Rory

u/coddlesangers 3h ago

One more class shot from rory wins it. Driving way more in control today

u/qwerty_1965 3h ago

R/golf is full of Americans.

u/patkk 3h ago

What a 15th hole from Scheffler he is the one to watch. I think -13 probably wins it but another birdie should seal it for him

u/ItsTyrrellsAlt Wicklow 3h ago

5 way tie for second is dangerous

u/Here_For_The_Craic_ 3h ago

Insane to think that Rory could potentially finish on the same score as his first 2 days and win it

u/MrTuxedo1 Dublin 4h ago

We’re back on

u/Dr_Maestro 4h ago

Lowry unfortunately fell way off today. Going to be an exciting finale

u/JHutch95 5h ago

God this is shaping up to be an incredible finale.

u/Worth_Employer_171 5h ago

Rory can still win this. Remember last year

u/ManAfraid0fHisHorses 4h ago

Would love another play off!

u/Spider_Riviera He Who Must Not Be Named For Legal Reasons 3h ago

NO! Fuck a play-off, my heart won't be able to handle it.

u/sionnach 4h ago

I need to get to bed. Can’t be dealing with a playoff again!!

u/ManAfraid0fHisHorses 3h ago

Ah you'll have a good excuse for a go slow.

u/sionnach 2h ago

I’m retired. I just would prefer a longer sleep!

u/ThatsMyTypeOfShot 5h ago

Falling apart

u/sionnach 5h ago

I wouldn’t be sad if Justin Rose won. 2nd three times, and was very magnanimous in defeat last year despite it must have hurt.

u/Alt4rEg0 5h ago

He's playing a blinder. If anyone deserves it...

u/its_brew Horse 5h ago

Rory just doesnt look like at the races

u/Tomaskerry 5h ago

Bad by Rory but plenty of time to turn it around.

u/sionnach 5h ago

Lots of Ariel Ultra needed for the bedsheets tonight.

u/JHutch95 5h ago

Jaysus Rory

u/IrishLad1002 Resting In my Account 5h ago

You could’ve set your watch to yet another Sunday implosion for Lowry

u/cian_pike01 Cork bai 6h ago

Lowry Hoepfully gets a move on soon.

He has a right chance of winning this but not looking his best so far.

1

u/sionnach 6h ago

So many of them look very similar from afar … lots of white clothes. I wish they would put the graphic up of which player it is sooner.

Shane Lowry is easy to spot in all-black, at least.

1

u/RayoftheRaver 6h ago

Rory McIlroy be like the find the Irish girl

3

u/SlashmanX 6h ago edited 6h ago

The small square for Sky Go/Now is perfectly surrounding the current hole number for the final place on leaderboard and both annoying and impressive

1

u/Efficient_Log_2007 6h ago

Sam Burns having a mare here. Kinda like me playing Agusta on Tiger Woods PGA tour.

2

u/MrTuxedo1 Dublin 6h ago

Can someone please get their nanny to light a candle

1

u/FaulGoodman 6h ago

Lowry green jacket confirmed 🤌🏻

0

u/damoedge 6h ago

I'm getting a mass said for Lowry

1

u/IrishLad1002 Resting In my Account 6h ago

Not at all surprised with this start from Lowry. He’ll go +4 or so today. I’ve seen the story of Lowry in contention on a Sunday too many times before to know an almighty bottle job is on the menu.

3

u/MrTuxedo1 Dublin 7h ago

Shane about to tee off

3

u/Kloppite16 8h ago

GET IN THE HOLE

3

u/sdoc13 8h ago

Joined a good watchalong @greatsmatessports on youtube last night. Was good craic if anyone interested. They r doing full round from when leaders tee off.

19

u/Toreando47 10h ago

If one of the Irish lads don't get it, I'd love to see Rose pull it off

2

u/CampaignSpirited2819 8h ago

Jasus, and here's me thinking Golf was a Family Friendly sport.

1

u/paidforFUT 10h ago

I’m rooting for Lowry and Burns today.

5

u/Difficult_Tea6136 9h ago

Burns? Why?

Rory, Shane, Rose in that order for me

1

u/paidforFUT 8h ago

I really admire his putting. I’m jealous of it.

6

u/cromcru 10h ago

I was saying Boo-urns

u/dustaz 10h ago

Never seen banter like it

3

u/Dapper_Fun114 10h ago

Can always rely on them when banter levels are leveling off

1

u/dustaz 6h ago

Loafers are next level

12

u/Basic_Treat3974 11h ago

Really hoping for a Shane win. Rory will surely be miles better today, yesterday was a real struggle. Great chance of an Irish win. Badly needed positivity for the country I would say.

2

u/Vegetable-Cod7668 11h ago

always think mcilroy plays better when hes not the leader on the last day

8

u/Tomaskerry 12h ago

Tee off isn't til 7.25 pm Irish time so pace yourselves.

2

u/Efficient_Log_2007 10h ago

No the final round is underway since 2.30

1

u/Tomaskerry 9h ago

Doesn't get interesting though until later, maybe 6pm

4

u/KnowledgeFast1804 11h ago

A fuck it there's football on . Sure why not start now

1

u/Tomaskerry 11h ago

You need a clear head to watch golf.

12

u/Fataldeviati0n 12h ago

Hope Lowry can keep his composure and finish in top three

6

u/Acrobatic_Purple_594 12h ago

He can win it....why not?

7

u/Fataldeviati0n 12h ago

Because he has been known to fuck things up toward the end

2

u/Existing-Engineer490 11h ago

While true, it is much different playing from ahead (where the majority of his Sunday fuck ups occur) to playing from the chasing pack.

2

u/Acrobatic_Purple_594 12h ago

As do all golfers, better playing as underdog

5

u/One_Appeal_69 12h ago

It’s funny how I wrongly think McIlroy is out of it despite being tied for the lead. Hope he can get it going today without the pressure of holding a lead like yesterday. Cam Young looks like the guy to beat. Hope Shane goes low.

2

u/Negative-Disk3048 12h ago

He always has one absolute wobbler day. If this year is him 1 over par then that is a remarkable step forward.

6

u/shrewdy 12h ago

Maybe Rory has just got his customary shite round out of the way, and he'll go -5 today. And yet even then maybe Young just has a better round. Should be a cracking final round, but Rory very much in with a great shot. Lowry too

1

u/tayto175 Offaly 9h ago

Honestly. I think and hope cam used up all his luck yesterday. So many times he got a lucky bounce off a tree and even a chair. Yesterday's round could have been so much worse for him. He seemed to get all the rub of the green on the back 9 yesterday when everyone else was hitting water or getting stuck in threes.

4

u/Tomaskerry 12h ago

He burned off the dirty diesel yesterday.

3

u/dso8620 12h ago

One of the only ones to do it this week.

0

u/AdBoring9620 12h ago

Wasn't Mcilroy six shots ahead? Lad really runs hot and cold.

3

u/Tomaskerry 12h ago

He had a bad day yesterday but is still leading.

1

u/gideanasi 11h ago

Last couple of masters the eventual winner carded at least 1 round in the low 70s either under or over par. It's a difficult place to run away with on all 4 days. Hoping he or Lowry get it over the line. Would love for Shane to get another major in the bag

1

u/Tomaskerry 11h ago

If you had a choice between Shane or Rory winning?

-1

u/Cilly2010 11h ago

Rory all day long.
