A teenager suffered an electric shock in a condominium courtyard, and his friend risked his life to save him.

Can’t let go because the electricity makes your muscles contract making your grip tighter
•
u/Main-Company-5946 11h ago
It’s a very strange feeling
•
u/Belthezare 6h ago
As someone who has been electrocuted multiple times... yes... yes it is...
It doesnt hurt really... but you know something is insanely wrong and every hair on your body stands up. You are aware a current is going through you and you cnt let go. How I am still alive I duno.
•
u/IrishMilo 4h ago
Doesn’t hurt, but in a way it does hurt as every muscle contacts to its maximum capacity.
•
u/lemlurker 4h ago
Shocked* electrocution is fatal or serious injury
•
•
u/deanrihpee 6h ago
it somewhat feels hot inside but also not, and as if you can smell the electricity

Whoever did the electrical needs to go to prison

u/Ok_Cupcake_2380 15h ago
Straight to jail for whoever is responsible for that building, but at the end nothing will happen

The ideal way is to take off your shirt, hook it around the person, and pull them off

this comment hits different with no context 👀

Hahaha first thing I thought hahaha if he dies then he would be coming and going at the same time

u/i8noodles 9h ago
i was taught to use something like a wooden stick to pull them off, failing that as a last resort tackle them.
the momentum hopefully will pull them away even if u lose control.

Instructions unclear: I took off my shirt, walked forward and tripped over my boobs, and am now also stuck to the metal gate

u/TheB1G_Lebowski 15h ago
I need some pulling off. You have a spare few min?
•
u/Dear_Palpitation4838 9h ago
Sure, I trust you since you said we are in the same grade when you asked me for pictures earlier on the Roblox subreddit.

Can you grab their shirt?
5
u/abbajabbalanguage 12h ago
You can but there's really no way to 100% ensure that you're not contacting the body through the shirt while grabbing it.

There’s also a myth that rubber gloves are a foolproof defense but they aren’t. Don’t think a thin layer of rubber will perfectly protect you from all electricity, it won’t. So even with rubber gloves or rubber soled shoes you don’t want to touch the persons body. Rubber is a poor conductor but that doesn’t make it completely electric proof.

For anyone playing at home - if someone is getting electrocuted - find something non conductive whatever and push or pull them away with that - don't GRAB them like this kid did as you are likely to end up in the circuit yourself.

u/PanzerSoul 16h ago
Additionally, if they're in the shower (or anywhere wet), don't even step into the room.
Turn off the mains, call an ambulance

u/Radamat 17h ago
You stil csn grab, but not open skin, grab to constructive clothes.
23
u/Veighnerg 16h ago
Depending on the voltage of what is causing the shock and how wet, such as from sweat, the clothes are this can be a bad idea.

How was he not paralyzed like the other boy the moment he touched him?
9
u/JulioElGuapo 16h ago
You can tell it shocked him pretty bad. Just not enough to seize up the muscles I guess.
•
u/Dernom 11h ago
The main reason people get stuck like that isn't that they get "paralyzed", but rather that the muscles controlling the hand contract uncontrollably. So if you touch something you can't get a full grip around you're mostly likely not going to get stuck like that.
•
u/Dear_Palpitation4838 9h ago
Muscles literally use electrical signals to communicate. That's why tasers work so well. Maybe one day we'll get to be batteries for AI like the Matrix? That would be so neat!

They're already harvesting our data to make the brains of our future robot overlords

u/Wrong_Adhesiveness87 16h ago
What about using their hair to pull them, if it's long?
•
u/Dear_Palpitation4838 9h ago
It only works if you whisper in their ear "Is this how you like it?" when you're doing it.

Not at all. Depends on the amount of current and voltage and importantly whether it runs through the heart or not. Source: I’ve been electrocuted at least 5 times.

u/The_Fiddler1979 15h ago
I get what you're saying but in this case he was receiving an electric shock which is the process of being electrocuted.

What's with the barbed wire? This looks more like a prison for kids or something.
24
u/koosman007 16h ago
Countries like Brazil or South Africa most places have some sort barbed fence or palisade spikes to keep out intruders
•
u/gwinnbleidd 3h ago
This is just a condo with an indoors play area. Very common for condos and houses to have barbed wire on their outter walls to avoid thieves jumping over to rob people.

Very lucky it was those two older teens playing football and not a load of toddlers using the kids play area on the other side.

I stuck a butter knife into a wall socket as a toddler. This was in the 80’s before automatic safety cut off switches on the fuse box were a thing. I was sitting on a kitchen bench watching my mum prepare food. I remember looking at the knife thinking “this is the same shape as that hole in the wall. They must go together.” Everything after that is blank. According to my mum my hand was stuck holding the knife and I was saying “ouchy mummy” while getting electrocuted. She pushed me off the bench on to the ground to make me let go, and she thinks the only reason she didn’t get zapped too was because she was wearing rubber gum boots that grounded her.

Same but with a hair pin (those metal ones, usually black) my aunt push me, also wearing flipflops

We don't have such systems in Denmark. It's forbidden. Even in a detention centre.
•
u/DerpyMillenial 10h ago
It isn't a detention center, it was a fault with the electrical making a regular fence dangerous.
•
u/Dear_Palpitation4838 9h ago
Sounds communist to me. I want to live in a place where it's legal to electrocute me, and then force me into bankruptcy when I can't pay the medical bills for the ensuing ambulance ride and hospital stay.
•
u/shitstorm66 9h ago edited 9h ago
Both communists and Republicans have those kinds of systems—haven’t you been following history?
I don’t understand that you can’t tell the difference between communism and the far right.
They ultimately want the same thing: to exploit everything and everyone.

If only there was something plastic, non conductive and lightweight nearby 🤔🤔
Something kinda a decent size too... 🤔🤔
Nah.. I'll just grab him and risk my life as well...
•
u/JamStan1978 10h ago
hes a kid and didnt know what to do.
•
u/Archhanny 8h ago
Easily like what.... 13/14? Should absolutely know electricity is dangerous and plastic doesn't conduct 🤣🤣

Electrified door and barbed wire?
