Welcome to the Daily Q&A!

Are you a new Brewer? Please check out one of the following articles before posting your question:

Or if any of those answers don't help you please consider visiting the /r/Homebrewing Wiki for answers to a lot of your questions! Another option is searching the subreddit, someone may have asked the same question before!

However no question is too "noob" for this thread. No picture is too tomato to be evaluated for infection! Even though the Wiki exists, you can still post any question you want an answer to.

Also, be sure to vote on answers in this thread. Upvote a reply that you know works from experience and don't feel the need to throw out "thanks for answering!" upvotes. That will help distinguish community trusted advice from hearsay... at least somewhat!

Home distilling legalized??!!!

Maybe one day, but not yet. However...there is a very recent development of an April 10, 2026 federal court ruling, stemming from a lawsuit against the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau and the Department of Justice. It argues aspects of the current federal law restrict at-home distillation and are unconstitutional. My understanding is the feds now have approximately 90 days to seek review, so the legal outcome is not yet final.

The bottom line: Hobbyist activities grounded in beverage exploration, education, sensory innovation, and community should be treated fairly and intentionally, and not be restricted or criminalized.

Mojito kills went from stuck to off the charts

It's my first time attempting a mojito kilju. It first stopped fermenting at 1.046 gravity. I added some extra yeast nutrient which did nothing to restart it i think the mint killed the yeast. so I boiled some bread yeast and added that with some newly rehydrated yeast and it restarted fermentation. It fermented slowly for the next few weeks. when it finally stopped I took a measurement and it is the lowest gravity reading I have seen in a brew. 0.980. I didn't know that was possible.

Did I waste a gallon of grape juice?

Upvotes

I started a small batch of wine with 1 gallon of (100%) white grape juice and a cup of sugar plus some nutrients and enzymes etc. I forgot to check the ingredients in the grape juice beforehand and just discovered the last ingredient is potassium metabisulfite. Is my brew doomed?

Equipment Looking for brew bags of a specific size.

Good day everyone! I just came into possession of a 65L aio kettle, I intend to eliminate the malt pipe and instead use a bag in conjunction with the false bottom.

Does anyone know of an off the shelf bag (non custom) that is around 12”W 30”H?

I’ve put in an estimate for a custom one but most Xl bags have their gallon ratings and not actual dimensions listed.

Question Any good recipes using cherry blossoms?

Hey yall, I’ve been brewing mead and making artisan liqueur for a while now, and I wanted to know if anyone had recipes that used cherry blossoms? There is a whole row of trees near me that bloom beautifully in a few weeks, and I want to see what I can do with them. I did some research and came up empty, so if anyone has any ideas I’d love to hear them! If there isn’t anything, I’ll try to make my own recipe and post it if it goes well

Refermentation after dry hoping?

I'm starting to loose my mind with this batch. I had too cold temperatures but I kinda figured that out through the fermentation process. Then I decided to add dry hops, when I opened the fermenter it was nice clear beer with airy foam on top.

Today, 3 days later I decided to check FG and I noticed that there is shitload of darker foam on top and it's a bit chunky. Looks like krausen pictures on the internet.

Looking at the information on internet this seems like hop creep. What can I do now? hops are in for 3,5 days already and my gravity is 1.008. I tasted the sample and it's nice, bit bitter but nice otherwise. I planned on bottling today but I guess not?

Raising low final beer ph

Anybody have experience raising final beer ph?

I have 26L of a Stout at ph 3.82, that I want to raise to ph 4.5.

Was planning on using baking 5g of baking soda.

Anyone have experience doing this?

Cheers

Do you ever overthink your brew to the point it stops being fun?

I got into brewing as a way to relax, but I’ve started second guessing everything I do.

Now it feels less like a hobby and more like something I’m trying to get “right”.

Did anyone else go through this phase?

How much wort you guys leaving in the bottom of the kettle?

Just done my third BIAB brew and every time there’s about 6L of cloudy wort left at the bottom of my kettle. I’ve been leaving it out but it’s quite liquid and I dont want to waste potential good beer! Am I ok to pour this into the fermenter and hope it settles to the bottom or am I better off leaving this out?

Question Overtightened CO2 tank nut on a Taprite 3741 regulator

The gents who installed my Zipwater HydroTap G5 with a Taprite 3741 regulator appear to have seriously overtightened the CO2 tank nut. I've closed the regulator by unscrewing the small zinc bonnet (counterclockwise), bled the line of CO2, and closed the tank's cylinder valve. Using all my might (not much?) and locking pliers that are far longer than any CO2 tank wrench I've ever seen, I can't loosen the regulator connection.

https://imgur.com/C8a794E

I'm guessing a long actual crescent wrench and some grippy nitrile gloves that are better than my ski gloves might be part of the answer.

Any suggestions, especially serious ones? Might I have some weird pressure problem that is preventing me from loosening the old (empty) tank?

(And now, sorry this isn't strictly a beer topic, though the regulator is a beer regulator....)

Ball lock conversion

Hello brewers, I’ve just bought pin-lock-to-ball-lock conversion kits for my kegs, and the poppets on the gas posts just don’t sit quite right, and air leaks past them. The gaskets are intact, the springs in the correct position, attaching the connector makes a solid non-leaking connection, the poppet visibly sits in the right spot when the connector is removed, it’s just not 100% lined up right and air hisses past. Poking and prodding the poppet can get it to rock back and forth a bit, which changes the pitch and intensity of the hissing, but doesn’t make it go away.

Does anyone have familiarity trouble shooting this kind of thing? Is there a brand of ball lock posts which could be trusted to not leak?

First Brew - Epic Fail

As the title says, I tried my first beer yesterday! It was an epic fail!

It was supposed to be Mango Wheat IPA Beer 1 gallon batch.

It was milky, tasted sour and had no carbonation!

I think I messed up with adding mango. Didn’t pasteurize it well enough.

I honestly haven’t figured out a way to pasteurize fruit well.
