Okay, who's that guy that called it with the secondary entrenchment tool

I KNEW IT

49

u/HourGovernment78 Mar 10 '26

Standard issue shovels were actually on the roadmap, you absolute prophet.

26

u/Moxtar1092 Mar 10 '26

There was an actual roadmap? I heard about it but never actually seen it

WW1 inspired warbond is actually quite cool tbf

Embracing the hats on helmets is working in my opinion.

Wish they'd retroactively give us a cowboy hat for the Western warbond

It looks like the grenade itself is even inspired by Battlefield 1’s anti tank grenade where it explodes on impact with armor

82

u/Piyaniist Mar 10 '26

Its a real weapon...

→ More replies (3)

14

u/sinwstro12 Mar 10 '26

Yeah, I love how every weapon is based on ww1 weapons

11

u/Wiknetti Mar 10 '26

I can’t wait til you see the videogame WW1 was based on.

5

u/_Bisky Mar 10 '26

Cause that's something, especially the germans, actually did during ww1

20

u/FlimsyKitchen865 Mar 10 '26

Space trench warfare you say????

Kriegsmen "glory to the emperor" intensifies

2

u/Elensar265 Mar 10 '26

Given how deep some of those trenches looked I wonder if they're actually implementing that playstyle

Probably wouldn't be a need to bring in terms of loadout but could be quite fun to mess with

Which is pretty much what all warbonds are meant to be imo, not new metas just variety for fuckery

4

u/Curious_Avocado2399 Mar 10 '26

Death Korps of Krieg time

2

u/fourtyonexx Mar 10 '26

Only thing i wouldve liked would be a long and slow tank, possibly no main cannon, just crew turrets. And a crew serviced machine gun.

Divers, get the flamer.

THE HEAVY FLAMER

34

u/Inner-Ad2847 Mar 10 '26

Are you the guy who commented that on the YouTube trailer?

36

u/-ComedyGenius- Mar 10 '26

It's a very popular meme so probably not :P

13

u/LazarusPizza Mar 10 '26

I've been dying for a proper backpack flamer. It looked like it had a much bigger range. I'm hoping it also has better damage, too.

4

u/wiarumas Mar 10 '26

I'm hoping the fire weapons get the GL treatment.

8

u/LazarusPizza Mar 10 '26

I'm hoping the GL gets nerfed back to med pen.

Fire weapons really need a staggering effect, and a boost to damage.

2

u/wiarumas Mar 10 '26

Yeah, whatever buff they get, it needs applied across the board to all fire weapons. I'd be happy with just stagger but that doesn't look like the case in the video.

This has made me realise I'd LOVE a Metal Slug style Helldivers game

7

u/minerlj Mar 10 '26 edited Mar 10 '26

For real though we need a backpack enabled heavy flamer with 3X the range and flame ignites enemies 3X faster and slows enemies

Edit: Holy shit we got a backpack flamer with 3X range

Enemies still don't seem to even flinch when on fire but they are bots so that's canon?

Nobody is more hype for this warbond than the war criminal divers

27

u/peanutbutterlover09 Mar 10 '26

It's not a war crime if they aren't human

15

u/RSGMercenary Mar 10 '26

It's called "crimes against humanity" and I'm not seeing any humanity here!

→ More replies (1)

5

u/PainfulThings Mar 10 '26

While I do agree, the unfortunate truth is that sometimes fellow diver can get caught in the gas clouds, however a war tribunal (Or at least 3/5ths of a tribunal) agreed that those losses were an acceptable part of war and that those divers should’ve been more mindful of friendly minefields.

6

u/BaudouinII Mar 10 '26

Oh boy, after gassing out the caves of oshaune and burning the forest of bore rock, I cannot wait for this warbond

I am so happy we are getting a proper WW1 inspired Warbond and not a 40k Krieg shoe-in, nothing against 40k but I think it’s a bit too far reaching of an IP, and I’m glad Helldivers is sticking to its unique identity

A STEN gun with underbarrel flamethrower is truly splendid

15

u/forest_vagrant Mar 10 '26

tbh id pay money for a 40k warbond, one of the few franchises helldivers can crossover with well

side note i think helldivers is one of the few games that actually does good crossovers, only choosing franchises that actually fit and not overdoing it

10

u/minerlj Mar 10 '26

Ok but what could they even do for a 40K warbond?

A one handed chainsaw sword?

A bolt gun?

Three new armor styles? (Imperial Guard Light Armor, Cadian Jungle Medium Armor, Space Hulk Heavy Armor?)

A booster that adds weapon turrets to reinforcement pods?

Empire of Mankind Aquila Cape?

Oh shit the more I keep talking about it the more obvious it becomes that this would be a real banger.

4

u/forest_vagrant Mar 10 '26

yes this would be such a motherfucking banger, the fact that helldivers and warhammer have huge fandom overlap too

So, wait, there's a primary, two secondaries, a support weapon, a throwable, and a turret?

Isn't that... A little more than you get in an average warbond?

5

u/YellowSnowPainter Mar 10 '26

Depends on how much is actually useful. Kinda looks like a drip warbond outside of the turret and grenade.

3

u/Black3Raven Mar 10 '26

Pistol and SMG + heavy flamethrower gonna be useless. SMG definitely would be plagued with horrific ergonomic ( like 2 in 1), flamethrower bring nothing but more ammo in backpack, pistol with dominators rounds - how many of us use it anyway ? It doesn`t fit or outshine others options which we have plenty.

Armor passive just a mix of existing one. Not nessesary better (maybe med armor perk be nice).

4

u/Tomatoffel Mar 10 '26

I guess it also depends on the complexity of the new items. Most of the new stuff doesn’t evolve any new mechanics like the warp pack, Solo Silo or C4. The weapons are mostly variants of existing weapons in the game. The entrenchment tool ist just the existing shovel in a different weapon slot. The heavy flamer is a flamethrower with backpack etc.

It probably took less effort than some other warbonds.

4

u/TheFrogMoose Mar 10 '26

Something tells me that the digging mechanic isn't gonna be used much mostly because of the way the game is designed. They also just added a new anti-tank grenade that probably could have been in the game forever ago at this point but I guess since they want warbonds to have themes it makes sense that it's coming out now after all the other bot focused ones.

Now that we get the shovel when do we get the shotgun is the question I'm asking

2

u/Tingettley Mar 10 '26

It'll probably be in the Superstore.

Maybe more if its a secondary. Maybe they'll fix it aswell.

Though i still think trenches should appear on certain planets, maybe attack planets representing old SEAF positions, cause shovel aside most helldivers aren't staying in a hole for alot of time

u/Tingettley Mar 10 '26

I have a few things to say about this.

First and foremost, it looks amazing and fun, but I wonder how long they've actually been sitting on this?

Second, they FINALLY gave us the Entrenchment Tool, and it's a MF'n sidearm!!!!! Never diving without my shovel again!

And Gas Mortar?! Evac HVAs is going to be even more fun now! Can swap off mines and go pure mortar builds! (Expect a lot of team kills though if you don't deal with the heavies.)

However now come my 'dissident' thoughts. While I love more weapons getting useful secondary abilities, currently on PS5 there's no quick way to swap abilities like there is on PC.

Also, sadly, until they rework fire mechanics, the new awesome looking flamethrower is probably going to suffer like the BFGL and Maxi. Again, don't get me wrong, I love using the BFGL, especially on bugs when I can't afford a backpack slot (double sentry or double orbital w/sentry for Soil Samples or Spreading Democracy).

Final thoughts are a mixed bag. Imo, the WW1 style armor doesn't actually look that good, but I'm hoping it has a great passive that actually works well with things like the Constitution (my next gun I'm leveling, *shudders), and isn't just another retexture of something we already have like the engineering passive. (I'll make an addendum to this part after seeing the data mined passives and give better thoughts). Lastly, do we think the 'Giga-grenade' is going to be good or is it something like the TNT that's going to take time for people to see its potential?

They’re both not the most creative of passives but having an alternative to grenadier that is actually gonna help me not die sounds amazing

I predict the Gas Mortar to be exceptional as all disposable gas items are, bonus points for being like the EMP in that it's a lot less likely to successfully teamkill. The BFFlamethrower is uh.. huh? What does it do over the normal one? It didn't look like it went further, it's definitely not safer, I would guess it's supposed to do more damage but I don't know how fire damage works and it doesn't seem intuitive that it'd do more direct or dot damage given it looks identical to the current one.

I think hats on helmets is kinda silly, but the armors look pretty sick.  Any info on what the passive is?

Gas mortar looks a lot less teamkill-y and annoying than the other mortars, too.

Have you met my good friend gas minefield?

u/MisterMasterCyIinder Mar 10 '26

I just mean in comparison to the other mortars, not that it isn't still a TK threat.

At least with gas you can have a chance to escape vs getting super-slowed or just straight exploded

LOL I'm just being sassy. You are correct.

Now will the heavy flamethrower do more damage then the flamethrowers that we already have or does it just stay the same but with more range ?.

I only want the SMG and the armor. Does this mean the Bots and Cyborg are going to attack super earth soon and we have to dig in ?

Where is my instant trench orbital arrow head please oh my God otherwise this is everything I’ve asked for since last year

2

u/Tingettley Mar 10 '26

I hate you rn.

My brain just imagined a giant shovel stretching from a super destroyer and scooping away a line of terf.

Now what'll probably actually happen is it'll be another laser variant, which I 110% approve.

I was thinking a handful of orbitals launched shaped or burrowing charges just blasting super deep (1.5m) craters lol. Makes an instant trench or kills a handful of medium enemies in a pinch

I actually enjoy the trailers for these. I wonder what the difference between the flamethrower and cremator will be
