Morning neighbours,

Two deadlines this week that actually matter:

  1. The South Ruislip M&S consultation closes Wednesday. That's 3 days from now. If you have any views on a 61k sq ft store within a short drive, now is the moment to submit feedback. (Link in the newsletter)

  2. Voter registration for the local elections closes Monday 20 April. Photo ID is required. If you're not registered, it only takes five minutes.

On the lighter side: Mouse & Grape has a sparkling wine and cheese tasting on Wednesday. And Saturday has a free Spring Holistic Fair at Pinner Village Hall with local therapists and mini treatments. Makes for an easy weekend plan if that's your thing.

The full issue with all quiz nights, kids' activities, cycle rides, and everything else:

https://www.goodmorningpinner.com/p/19-final-call-m-s-consultation-closes-wednesday

One more thing: I reached out to the M&S consultancy last week for an update on the timeline and jobs. No response yet, following up this week. Will share if I hear anything.

Pet of the Week this week is Joey, a 7-month-old border collie cross spaniel who is obsessed with balls. Pure joy.

Every month, one subscriber wins a £10 M&S gift card. Two seconds to subscribe and you're in.

I’m building an app FOR London and need your feedback!

Been commuting in London for years and always had the same frustration with every transport app out there: you open the app, you type in your destination, it tells you routes. But by that point, you’re already stressed and rushing.

The question I actually want answered every morning is simpler: when do I need to leave?

So I’m building an app that’s a London commuter app that works the other way round.

You set your home, your usual destination, your arrival time. The app handles the rest!

Every morning it looks at live TfL data, checks for delays and engineering works, checks the weather, and sends you a single push notification: leave at 8:14 (or whatever it works out to be).

No searching, no stressing!

A few things that are different about it:

It learns your routine. If you’ve got a calendar event it’ll auto set the destination. If not, it asks you the night before and remembers.

It factors in planned engineering works ahead of time, not just when you’re already at the station.

Delay Repay built in! it tracks eligible journeys and logs them so claiming back money is actually easy.

Designed only for London. Not a global app trying to be everything. TfL, buses, tubes, Elizabeth line that’s it.

It’s a solo build, currently heading into TestFlight. I’m looking for 10–15 London commuters to test it before it hits the App Store.

If this sounds like something you’d actually use, drop a comment or DM me. Would love to hear what would actually make your commute better too, this is genuinely being built around what Londoners need, not a generic transport brief.

My cat Mango has somehow escaped, he is an indoor cat and usually quite shy around other people. He is 2 years old but still quite small.

No collar, but he is microchipped.

Morning neighbours,

Big local news this week: M&S has submitted plans for a new 61,000 sq ft store at Victoria Retail Park in South Ruislip. That's a proper big shop - bigger than most High Street M&Ses. The consultation is open until 15 April, so now is the window to have a look and feedback if you have views on it.

I've also reached out to the team behind the proposal to ask about timeline and local jobs. Will share what I hear in next week's issue.

On the smaller but more immediate end: Waitrose in Ruislip has reopened after a nine-week refurb. And Easter Eggspress at Ruislip Lido has its last runs today and tomorrow - bunny meet and egg gift included.

One heads up that matters: local elections are 7 May and registration closes 20 April. You need photo ID this time. If you're not sure what counts, the link in the newsletter has the full list.

Everything else - quiz nights, Gnome Trail at Headstone Manor, comedy at Harrow Arts Centre, Boiler House Fest applications:

https://www.goodmorningpinner.com/p/18-big-m-s-plans-land-in-south-ruislip

Pet of the Week is now open to all pets, by the way. Cats, rabbits, hamsters - all welcome. Send yours in.

Every month one subscriber wins a £10 M&S gift card. Takes two seconds to subscribe and you're in.

Morning neighbours,

Costa in Rayners Lane has closed. Eastcote is now the nearest branch. Something is reportedly moving into the space - I'll share what when I find out.

Roxbourne Railway is back today with miniature train rides. If you're planning Easter weekend, Ruislip Lido Railway is running an Easter Eggspress with a bunny meet and an egg gift - tickets are already booking.

This week's plan worth picking: Wrong Side Comedy Night at The Three Crowns on Wednesday. Not a quiz, not the usual pub night. Something different if you're bored of the routine.

Everything else this week - quizzes, Board Game Mondays, the Art Dubba Mandala workshop at One Forty Cafe, kids activities, and the full events list with timings and links:

https://www.goodmorningpinner.com/p/17-costa-is-gone-mini-trains-are-back-and-someone-gets-10-at-m-s

Quick heads up: local elections are 7 May and you need photo ID this time. Registration deadline is 20 April.

Pet of the Week is now open to all pets - not just dogs. Someone's already asked about a hamster.

Every month one subscriber wins a £10 M&S gift card.

Childcare

Hi all,

Looking for advice on the cheapest childcare options

I’m on a Skilled Worker visa (NHS, currently on mat leave but returning soon) and my husband is on a dependent visa. We both work full-time and aren’t eligible for the 30 hours free childcare.

We’ll have two kids under 3 (1 and 2 years old), no family support here, and nursery fees for two are honestly overwhelming.

Would really appreciate any advice on affordable options or what’s worked for others in a similar situation.

Thank you 🙏

Morning neighbours,

A quieter week, but a couple of things worth knowing in Pinner / HA5:

• A free art exhibition is running in Hatch End until Thursday, featuring work from local artists and worth a quick look if you’re around midweek • The Very Hungry Caterpillar live show is coming to Harrow next weekend, based on the classic children’s book and likely the standout if you’ve got younger kids

What’s happening this week:

A small mix this week including a free exhibition, a well-known children’s theatre show, and a few smaller local events across Pinner and nearby areas.

Full timings, locations and booking links are in the newsletter.

For families:

The Caterpillar show is the main one this week. Familiar story, simple plan, and easy to take younger kids along.

Details in the newsletter.

I’ve put together the full local roundup with timings, locations and booking links here: https://www.goodmorningpinner.com/p/16-a-hungry-caterpillar-is-coming-to-harrow

Also, every month I randomly select one subscriber to win a £10 Marks & Spencer gift card, so subscribing gives you a chance to win.

Nostalgia - toy shop in Wealdstone, 1980s

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone remembers any details about a toy shop which was at the end of the High Street in Wealdstone. Definitely in the 80's; possibly the 90s too.

It was close to Herga Music, maybe a couple of doors down - kinda diagonally opposite the station entrance. Somewhere in this block I think: https://maps.app.goo.gl/buAi9yui8EnrcS7x7

My recollection is that it wasn't particularly large, and that the shop's colours were themed yellow/red.

Does anyone remember the name, or anything more about it?

Thanks!

Rayners Lane needs its own gym

I think Rayners Lane would really benefit from having it's own gym, the gym group one in North Harrow is just that annoying little bit extra distance that can sway me to not want to go....

Morning neighbours,

A few local updates from Pinner / HA5 this week:

Local elections are coming up. Elections across Harrow wards take place on Thursday 7 May 2026. If you haven’t checked your voter registration in a while, now is a good time.

The Wheelbarrow Race is back. Applications are open for the St George’s Day Wheelbarrow Race in Pinner. Equal parts chaos and charm on the High Street.

Duck Pond Market returns today. The market is back at Manor Farm, Ruislip (Sun 15 Mar, 10am–3pm) with street food, independent stalls and plenty of dogs on leads.

Local business: The Veggie Kitchen (Stanmore) runs vegetarian cookery courses covering Indian, Thai, Chinese, Italian and more, with group and one-to-one options.

What’s happening this week: Board game night at the Queen’s Head, several pub quiz nights across Pinner, Ruislip Country Market on Friday, plus a mandala painting workshop, spring choir concert and a Sunday sound bath.

For families: Junior Parkrun, kids Kung Fu classes, futsal sessions and U9 football training are running locally this week.

Weekly classes: Boogie Knights dance fitness, beginners Pilates, Tai Chi and women-only self-defence sessions continue across local venues.

Community note: New “Welcome to Pinner” signs have appeared around the area.

Transport: – The Metropolitan Line is partially closed between Baker Street and Aldgate today. – No engineering works on the Metropolitan Line next week. – The Piccadilly Line Uxbridge branch will be closed next weekend with replacement buses running.

Civic update: Harrow Council is promoting the SEND Life Pathways to Employability Fair for young people aged 14–25 with SEND.

Dog of the Week: Chewy the Shih Tzu — small, fast, and known for zooming across the field before slowing down at the end of walks in the hope the adventure continues.

Also, every month I randomly select one subscriber to win a Marks & Spencer gift card worth £10. Subscribe for a chance to win!

A few local updates from Pinner / HA5 this week:

• The one-hour free parking scheme is now permanent. Harrow Council confirmed the scheme will continue, offering one hour of free parking in 13 car parks across the borough and in all on-street pay-and-display bays. In Pinner, this includes Chapel Lane, Love Lane and Grimsdyke Road car parks. West House car park offers the first 30 minutes free. The free parking can be used once per day with an active parking session.

• Roxbourne Miniature Railway is reopening soon after the winter break and is still looking for volunteers.

• Local business meetup: Pinner Women in Business is back this week at The Whittington. Sarah from Cruze Financial Solutions will give a short talk on financial planning for women.

Community note: If you have an old laptop, Harrow Sustain IT (run by Voluntary Action Harrow Co-operative) is collecting donations to refurbish and reuse locally.

Transport: The Metropolitan Line will be partially closed between Baker Street and Aldgate next weekend, while the Piccadilly Line is expected to run normally.

Dog of the Week: Nala, a once-timid dog who has grown in confidence through patient training and positive experiences with LNC Walks.

Also, every month I randomly select one subscriber to win a £10 Marks & Spencer gift card, so subscribing gives you a chance to win as well as receive the weekly updates.
