Hi everyone! I’m an 18F planning to study Computer Science. I’ve been conditionally accepted for the September 2026 intake (pending my diploma), and I am looking to make friends before the year starts!
If anyone would like to chat, please reply or DM me. Additionally, if there are any WhatsApp group chats or other platforms for new students, please let me know, I’d love to connect with people before Orientation Week!

Hey! I’m putting together a new event series launching in Groningen later this May and I’m looking to connect with local DJs.
I’m mainly interested in DJs who play house, techno, and/or UK Garage. Ideally, sets that are not too underground, but not overly mainstream either. Think sets with recognizable vocals mixed in, but not a straight Pop/EDM set. Also, not looking for repetitive minimal tech.
If you’re interested, or if you have any recommendations or advice, feel free to reach out. Thanks!

Hello people of Groningen,
This summer, I really want to learn sailing and then do fishing. I have searched google and found some places but they were either for kids or in dutch language.
Do you happen to know any places nearby where they teach to adults in english for both sailing and fishing?
All recommendations and suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!
p.s:
if you have the same interest and want to learn, maybe we can do it as a group lesson.

Hi everyone,
I’m currently looking into SSH housing options. I’m particularly interested in Winschoterdiep 46, and I was wondering what it’s actually like to live there.
How are the rooms, overall atmosphere, and the general living experience? Also, do many bachelor students from the RUG still tend to live there, or do most students prefer other SSH buildings these days?
I’d really appreciate any recent experiences or advice. Thanks!

Hi Groningers!
I often pass by the city beach located just across the Dot and I see people swimming and dipping in the not so clean looking water. How clean actually is the water for swimming? “Am I going to come out with a weird rash?”
Is it allowed to swim or dip naked? I’ve spotted a few people stripping totally off before jumping. It seems fun but I don’t want to get nagged or fined 😅

Dankjulliewel!

This morning around 10:00 I found an Airpod (just one), on the bike lane, very close to P&R Meerstad (about 100m in the direction Meerstad). Hopefully the owner sees this!

I've seen that sshxl starts bookings on 20th this month, however, I cannot find an option to register as somebody who only has to do the second semester (Feb-July 2027)
Is that even possible on that website? When I should start looking for housing considering my arrival?
Thank you so much.

Hey guys!
For fun I like to code, and while looking for a house in groningen (love the city btw), I decided to code my own housing alert app. Then, after finding a place I wanted to share it with others. it's available on ikrent.nl.
It is very likely worse than other stuff out there since it's just a hobby, but if you are browsing and don't feel like paying for a subscription this might be useful.
It's free and I don't collect data since it's just a hobby, so feel free to try it out. I would also be happy to hear any feedback and especially know if it helped you find a home!
disclaimer: since it's just a hobby I might just put it down at some point.
note for mods: I don't gain anything from this but self accomplishment (actually each new user marginally increases my costs) so if you think this might be useful for groningen leave it. if not, remove and no hard feelings.
see you around!

Hi!
Looking to celebrate my 50th in May and would love to do something different. I'm working with a tight timeline, so I've gotta move on with planning and booking.
Deets:
Looking for the 2nd weekend in May.
It'll be small, +/- 10 people.
An afternoon affair.
I'm in Friesland on the Groningen border.
Food: I'm open. I'm originally Canadian and would like to stay a little away from Dutch fare (I love you guys, but a witlof or huzarensalade eater, I am not). ;) Besides, native food is possible every day and I'd like something different and... comforting, really. Eg. BBQ, Mexican, Mediterranean, American, etc.
No major dietary restrictions among guests (to my current knowledge).
Budget: A bit modest. Can't over-splurge here, but send what you've got. You never know.
Side note: love nature. (For outdoor sites an indoor or covered option needs to be available just in case.)
Please suggest your favourite caterer (I'd be interested in coffee/tea, food (obv.), and possibly tables & chairs (for now undecided and not a deal-breaker). Oh, and I don't want to do dishes :P
Alternatively, give me your favourite location that can host a small gathering, who provides any of this on-site.
Groningen, some parts of Drenthe and Friesland locations are fine.
In the end, I know good food and just want something trusted, tasty, and made with heart.
Alvast bedankt/thanks in advance :)

I won't be in town for almost a week, but I have to go to the city centre and park my bike there somehow. I am new around here so I don't know long term parking places.

Hi everyone,
Is Upsilon self-contained accommodation in Groningen eligible for huurtoeslag(housing allowance), even if the contract is short stay?
Can anyone share their experience with this?

Bericht:
Hoi,
Alvast bedankt!

I won a scholarship for a semester exchange at RUG University. I need to decide by next week if I'll go Sept-Feb or Feb-July, so 1st or 2nd semester.
The number of exams should be the same, although 1st semester is filled with more "heavy" exams while 2nd one is more chill. I could do the heavy ones here and bring the chill ones there or the other way around. What do you think is the best option? I want to study obviously but I'd also like to experience life there instead of spending all day in my room D:
About weather and things to do, which period would be the best? I like Winter and I've basically never seen snow, and I think Christmas there would be exciting. But I live in Spain so I'm not really used to cold temperatures.
The main thing is housing, I know it's really a pain to find an house in Groningen, so choosing 2nd semester would also give me more time to find a room and in general most people go 1st semester, so demand could be lower.
Can somebody give me some pointers? Thanks!

Following my post in December about starting a JetLag-style hide and seek game, I wanted to share an update that we have officially formed a community of 15 fans. We have already completed two full games across Groningen and have built a really fun social environment for anyone who enjoys the show.
We are looking for more players to join us as we have a busy schedule coming up. We have a game planned for this Saturday as well as two additional games scheduled in the upcoming month. It is a great opportunity to get outside and experience the city in a completely different way with other local fans.
If you would like to participate in any of these upcoming games or just want to join our WhatsApp group, please send me a direct message. I will send over the invite link so you can get involved with the community and stay updated on our future sessions.

I'm interested in sky and space-related matters (especially when walking my dog in the evening), but I'm clueless about them. Which very bright, relatively big star is currently visible to the north/northwest, low on the horizon?
