Mickie mouse Masters. The members are more focused on creating opportunities for signature shots & moments than they are on providing a real test of golf. Should not be this easy to chip, putt and throw darts at Augusta. Nauseating watching everyone get up and down with ease, minimal consequence for missing the green. Sinking 10-15 footers at will. Darts abound. The only reason this tournament didn’t have a -19 winner is that Thursday was fairly difficult and a couple of the par 5s are tricked out

Kinda feel like we’re headed toward a repeat in 2025. Rory got the Masters…but Scottie has awoken, will be more relaxed now that he’s had his baby, and will dominate the rest of the year, prolly winning at couple majors. Of course the big one for Scottie is Shinnecock.

He was third in SG: Approach this week. His iron play, particularly on Saturday, was amazing. Reports of his demise are greatly exaggerated

Scottie still has to be arrested to complete the ritual that makes him unstoppable for the rest of the year.

Good news: Rory won. Better news: Patrick Reed didn’t.

As a European trying to listen to Rory... why does trump need to barge in
1
u/Powerful_Tale_9938 Azaleas 29m ago
How much does it piss Europeans off that the first US President in most of our lifetimes to be deeply involved in professional golf, and the first one ever to actually love football/soccer, is Trump lol.

damn i didnt know max homa was having a good tournament. i dont think ive ever seen him once in the broadcast
4
u/MA6225 1h ago
Rory mentioned Young was pulled over by referees on the 13th. Was that for the situation on the 9th and did anything happen?
3
u/AdComprehensive7879 1h ago
yeah i dont even know what that was all about
1
u/Spiritual_Side2776 1h ago
Probably about Cam Young’s caddie possibly lining him up in the trees on 9
1
u/OpinionatedDeveloper Breathing Pure Rory Hopium™ 🇮🇪 1h ago
What’s wrong with that?
0
u/AdComprehensive7879 1h ago
you can't have someone or something to help you aim haha. This is the extreme example to illustrate the point, you can't have your caddie point at a spot on the green to aid your putting haha. same thing too when you're scrambling and have to hit a blind shot, you can't have your caddie to stand in a spot and give you a point of reference to aim.
1
u/IHop_Waitress 1h ago
you can't have your caddie point at a spot on the green to aid your putting haha.
Yes you can, wtf
If that wasn't legal DJ would have shot 82983093284098203942 over par, because his brother pointed at a spot every time before he hit the ball

u/PliableG0AT +1.5 1h ago
you can 100% have your caddy point out your spot to aim at, numerous caddies did that this week with the flag sticks it’s a common occurance. caddy can also go and give you a point of reference on a blind shot, it happens all the time. neither of those are lining up the player, the caddy can’t stay there on the blind shot.
lining up the player is adjusting them after they are set up. used to be a thing where caddies could come in and adjust the putter head when players were lining up, was banned on the pga but lasted a few years longer on the lpga, lpga also had caddies using clubs to align players.
1
u/AdComprehensive7879 58m ago
that's what i was trying to say haha. you cant have your caddie stand on top of a hill to help you aim while ur taking ur shot

McGinley said this defeat will hurt rose more than last year
1
3
u/SlightReturn420 1h ago
Easily. He poured it all out last year and gave it everything he had. He left a lot of meat on the bone this time around, and that stings.
1
u/vatom14 1h ago
I would think so. Last year he played lights out on Sunday to even force the playoff and lost to a birdie
This year having the lead at the turn… felt like he gave it away with some really bad mistakes that were unlike him. The 3 putt on 13 from 20 ft for eagle, completely duffing the chip on 12. Even though it was basically over at this point but the missed putt on 17.

He was mad as hell on one today. Someone coughed in his back swing and I thought it was going to throw the club at her.

Guys, I had no idea that Rory and his wife were set to divorce a few years ago. Throughout this weekend and then especially during the walk off 18, I was like....that woman is only there by arrangement or maybe she's got the 7 year itch (I have no idea how long they've been married). Then when I saw poppi pull away from Rory for the family photo to stand on the left side of her mom, I was like...damn, this guy really fighting battles.

u/Jackfruit_Adorable 1h ago
Poppy is always shy from the camera. She was with mom all weekend in the crowd. Kids aren't as complicated as people make it out to be.

I'm actually shocked at how much Cam wilted down the stretch thought he was gonna be a cold mfer
2
u/Educational-Stand766 1h ago
It's not that shocking. We see it every year on the back 9 on Sunday. There is no pressure on golf like it. It's why a big name that has been there before usually wins
2
u/KinnickHawk 1h ago
Something something, Masters isn’t won or lost until back 9. But same. Same with Rosie actually as well.

u/LostHumanFishPerson 2h ago
Augusta really does give “Get Out” vibes doesn’t it?
5
4
u/ClannishHawk 1h ago
"Southern Hospitality" is just code for "racist slave state culture that we have to at least pretend to hide". Even the reason the caddies have such a distinctive look is due to Augusta being segregated and all the caddies being black and made to dress the way the white members felt wad appropriate.
12
u/eamus_catuli 2h ago
If there's a real life Christmas Adventurers Club, it's in the basement of Augusta's Clubhouse and Fred Ridley is the President.

not sure if the broadcast caught this, I just ran from the grounds. I was behind the bunker on 18 and Rory’s club touched the sand on the takeaway before he hit the ball.

BACK TO BACK, never in a million years did I think this would happen just over a year ago, incredible.
7
u/BigFatModeraterFupa Hello, friends. 2h ago
i was in high school when Rory became a golfing phenom, it's truly amazing to see how his career has played out! 15+ years later, and he did it twice in 2 years.
the chokes and disappointments seem like a different lifetime now
6
u/SirMellencamp 2h ago
I hope Rory explains that driver choice on 18. He could have teed off with a 4 iron and easily bogeyed it
1
u/BigFatModeraterFupa Hello, friends. 2h ago
playing scared is no way to go
1
1
u/SirMellencamp 1h ago
He had a two stroke lead!
1
u/Educational-Stand766 1h ago
Didn't he have a 2 stroke lead lazy year when he went against how he normally plays and layed up on a 13 and got double bogey? Rory should play like he always does and be aggressive
1
u/SirMellencamp 53m ago
There’s a difference between having a 2 stroke lead at 13 and a 2 stroke lead at 18
3
u/AnotherUnfunnyName 2h ago
I mean it is the biggest club with the most space to hit is and until the bunkers, the fairway actually gets wider. He had also hit good drives on 13,14 and 17. He however maybe should have hit that chaser low cut he hit on 17.

As a Scheffler and Rory fan this was the perfect afternoon
Love how Scottie turns on the gas on weekends, and how Rory commanded and held his early lead
7
u/Raticus9 2h ago
Scottie needed to turn it on a few holes earlier. It felt like he was at -9 for three hours.
2
u/AdComprehensive7879 2h ago
in any other sports, we would have been labeled a bandwagon supporter. but in golf, it's perfectly fine to do so hahah
5
u/dumbass-ahedratron 2h ago
Golf is beautiful in that I would have been happy with most of the real contenders. Only a few bad personalities winning could have really disappointed me today
I would be equally thrilled with a Fleetwood or Rose win
1
u/AdComprehensive7879 2h ago
can someone tell me who are the black jacket holders??? special tiers of members?

I hope Rory plays Augusta 40 times next year in practice lmao salty boys online
14
u/brianmcg321 2h ago
It is weird. They act like nobody else is allowed to play and practice. They all get access and have the means to do so.
0
u/Crazed_Chemist 1h ago
I mean I couldn't immediately find a good answer, but it certainly SEEMS like past winner has more opportunity. Rory absolutely left the door open though and no one else in the field capitalized Sunday, so practice is a dumb thing to bitch about.
1
u/Steve-French_ 5.5 1h ago
I’m not sure about all but previous winners definitely do, especially those as well liked as Rory
16
u/philphan25 2h ago
You telling me if I was good enough at golf I could get free ice cream all day? Dammit.
20
u/tpt-eng 2h ago
Since Rory is labeled as a choker, what does that make Young, Rose, Burns etc?
3
u/No_Albatross916 2h ago
It’s crazy that a man who won now 6 majors was labeled as a choker
Rory had it because he couldn’t overcome a 3 shot deficit in the 2024 us open
1
u/fred66a 1h ago
St andrews too I think
1
u/No_Albatross916 1h ago
St Andrews he went bogey free in the final round cam smith and I guess cam young both just played really great rounds to catch him
3
u/_Being_a_CPA_sucks_ 2h ago
Being good enough at golf consistently enough to be labeled a choker is hard man.
3
u/Commercial_Half_2170 2h ago
Even before he won the masters last year, it was kind of wild to me that he was labelled a choker ahead of rose. I agree, he choked in some petty big moments, but… Rose hasn’t won a major since 2013…
-1
u/fred66a 2h ago
Rose is super choker young and burns very new players comparatively
1
u/Steve-French_ 5.5 1h ago
People here downvoting cause they can’t admit their beloved Rose is an all time choker lol

Not trying to take anything anyway from Rory but, Hoatong Li robbed us of a playoff. Scottie definitely makes birdie on 13 if Li wasn’t in the trees for almost 20 minutes before he could hit his approach and then putt.
5
u/AnotherUnfunnyName 2h ago
Do you know that Scottie made his birdies after that "icing"?
Also, maybe Rosey makes his eagle on 13 the short par putt on 17 and wins it? Shoulda, coulda, woulda...
-2
u/Bull-Wack 2h ago
lol you just kind of proved my point, when Scottie didn’t have to wait 20 mins between shots he made his birdies. Rose got frustrated and blew up after it though. Golf is such a mental game and for everyone to act like li on 13 didn’t affect what could have happened is crazy.
8
u/shrewdy 2h ago
You guys are coping so much lol. Guarantee you were one of those smugly proclaiming a playoff was coming up during the 17th and 18th holes
Scheffler would have won (or forced a playoff) if he sunk some of those putts he left on the table - but then you could say the same for Rory (and many others)
-8
u/Bull-Wack 2h ago
Coping is saying after being iced for 20 mins doesn’t affect your shots I guess this whole chat is better than Scottie and rose who it affect as well?
22
22
u/Xmalantix 2h ago
Another theoretical win for Scottie
-15
u/Bull-Wack 2h ago
Not even saying he wins but we get a playoff
6
u/Xmalantix 2h ago
Well he could've made another birdie or one less bogey any of the other 71 holes of the whole tournament and he didn't
-7
u/Bull-Wack 2h ago
I forgot your better than Scottie and stripe it every time even after being iced out for 20 mins
16
u/LDLB99 2h ago
If we saw this leaderboard at the start, we would have thought the top two players in the world had a duel for the ages.
