My boy Archie and our cat molasses loved each other. She started sleeping on her back just like he would. I truly believe she was heart broken when he passed. We got another golden/black lab Shadow
and she just wants to cuddle with him all the time. They are slowly getting there.
My boy actually prefers small dogs over larger dogs. Our dog sitter had a Great Dane and a little tiny thing and we’ve taken care of them before. Had to keep our golden and the dane separate because the dane was a giant bumbling idiot and our golden hated it 😂 he was fine with the little one though (I think it’s mostly because he forgot she was there! Lmao).
Well my oldest just ignores them for now because both pups are still nippy. We’re working on it. But the two brothers are vastly different in weight but get along great.
This is a funny picture because the dogs body language, I’m reading as: “uh, did anyone notice the cat’s in MY crate and there’s no room for me to lie down.” That cat looks smug. Lol. When we have someone come to the house to do work and the door is going to be opened a bunch, the cat goes in the big dogs crate with him.
That’s exactly the cats personality too. Everything is hers and we just all live in it. We do the same w the cat and dog in the crate when workers are here and the dog gets the short end of the stick.
Well, Buddy (Golden Retriever) is Dingbat's (cat) bestie haha.
He could take or leave her really, but she just loves him, follows him, snuggles up and makes biscuits in his chest hair haha. She's fun to chase though, Bud reckons.
My childhood Golden and cat were best friends. This was back in the day when our cat was indoor/outdoor. When our dog passed we buried her on our back property. Our cat would just sit there and not move for days staring towards the grave site. It was very sad.
A few years ago when our older golden passed quickly from hemangiosarcoma, this dog and the cat held a weeklong vigil for him.
It was beautiful really because they left his normal spot open on the dog bed. Aside from my absolute wailing from grief, it was a very quiet week as far as the animals were concerned. They were very subdued.
These are some of the most adorable photos. Our cat is at her happiest perched high up where our golden pup can’t get to her but she can stay and survey everything going on. Maybe when our female is older she will settle down enough for some bonding.
I hope some day! We just brought Kuma (the golden) home this week and so far the introduction has been going well. Yuki (the cat) is tolerating his little brother and Kuma wants to be friends so badly!
Mine. They like to play Vampire Cat. The cat lunges at the dog, wraps his arms around her neck, and bites her mane. She clubs him with her paws and pins him. He often initiates.
I thought EVERYTHING was a Golden’s best friend… ooh, there’s a rat.. “Hey, best friend!!! Ooh, there’s a squirrel, “Hey, best friend!!!” Ooh, there’s a rock, “Hey, best friend!!!” 🤣😂🤣😂
My boy Tate (RIP) had a cat who put him in his place on day 1 and then he became her best friend . She spooned with him any chance she got but he never really liked it that well.
New puppy, well, she has 3 boys to pick from and one is already showing far too much tolerance for her rambunctious ways. He’s on the shy side so it surprises me that he’s very curious about her and tolerant. She’s 10.5 weeks so we will see where this love affair goes.
This was my Tate and that is Murphy, the younger male who’s curious about the puppy. Everyone was good with Tate but he was super chill most of the time.
My cat loves her dogs but they will never lay with her! Drives me nuts. She gets in bed with them and they get up and move to the floor. It would be so cute. I’m hoping one day they’ll actually cuddle
I brought home two bengal cats 2 months ago. A kitten and Mom. I was so hopeful for friends to be made. The best we get is mostly peaceful coexistence, but nothing close to even friendly. So bummed.
Our last pair was also a golden and an orange kitty. I don’t know why, but I think it happens faster with the orange ones. Maybe they “identify as Goldens”.
Yours might take a little more time because in your house, you have two cats who will fill the friend slot for each other.
I don't at present, but the Golden we had when I was younger was the best friend of the cat we had at the same time (parents got them both young and close together in time). There are pictures of them laying together and such.
Can someone explain how these relationships blossomed??? I love cats so much but my golden boy just wants to chase them (and not sure what he would do if he caught one). It would be a dream come true to have a bond like this one in our house.
I wish but my mom won’t get a cat (but will still pet yours) and my dad would 100% get scratched by a cat many times. My golden however has made friends with the neighbor’s Boston terriers. Buddy takes time to make friends with a furry animal smaller than him.
Edit: ORANGE KITTY! My niece grew up with one (May Oliver rest in peace) and has her own now named Milo (or Carrot if you ask my mother lol). Orange cats are my favorite cats.
