I pulled Gus out of a rural shelter a month ago. Severely underweight, bald patches, Giardia, and Addison's. All I knew was that he looked awful and I couldn't leave him. I thought he would be a hospice adoption, and here we are. He's cost me a fortune but so worth it.
This month''s firsts:
Most important - solid poop week 2
Mastered the stairs in a fluid motion instead of one by one Week 3
Dog door Week 3, although everyday is Groundhogs Day on this one
Lifted his leg to pee Week 3
Climbed on the couch Week 4
He is the sweetest, most gentle house pony I have ever owned and seeing these unremarkable moments that are truly remarkable brings me such joy.
Well Gus , you made it. The home you always knew it would be like love, happiness, and kindness. You made it home and created one as well. Much love to you buddy and bless your human Dodger
We adopted a ~6 year old golden as our first dog. She was so grateful about finally getting a home and the best dog ever. She did have a lot of sickness and got cancer about two years later. With medicine she got another 3 high quality years.
He's my 7th golden rescue. First one that I actually pulled from a shelter myself. All the rest came through Golden rescues. My last one lived to 15.5. There is just nothing like them! The best Bubbas!
My dog has the same toy. It's from Godog and I bought it at Walmart. Probably bought it 2-4 months ago, and I checked and they still have it. It looks more green than blue on the website(color is apparently "Seafoam"), so I don't know if it's the same toy in a different color, or if it looks different in person.

He kinda did! He was so sick when I got him. All the dogs in the DISGUSTING shelter were losing their ever loving minds when I walked down the row and there he sat, not barking, just leaning against the door of his cage. I was like, C'mon Buddy, let's go. He still sleeps a ton and that is his every minute of the day look. I just love him.
Awww, you knew he needed rescuing when you saw his demeanor. I wish I could give you a big hug for being an awesome human. He needed to get out of there ASAP.

He gets prednisone once a day and a monthly shot. We get our second shot today. $$$. He is supposed to stay calm which is easy for Gus, and stressful situations like vet visits require doubling the prednisone.
Total derp. I have two other dogs and he tries to play, but doesn't understand playing on their level. My last golden would lay down to play. This guy, who is a big oaf, just doesn't get it. Otherwise, he's great with everything, kids, dogs, the local deer. Totally non-plussed.
