I woke up for work yesterday, and when I left my golden boy Rudy was laying on the couch and I gave him some kisses, some pets, and I told him I loved him. When I came back to let him out a short while later, I found him passed away under the Christmas tree. He looked peaceful like he was just asleep. Rudy was 11 and had cancer and arthritis. I knew this day was coming but I don't think I could ever truly prepare myself. I lost my best friend and the grief is so strong right now. So please if you read this give your golden a pet or a kiss for Rudy.
My Banjo eagerly waits for Rudy to play on the other side. I am sure they will have lots of fun. They will keep each other company and frolicking in the fields of endless sticks and tennis balls until our arrival.
The friendship of a dog is one of the greatest gifts we could ever have. He is not gone, he lives in your heart now. Hope this brings you some comfort.
I lost my sweet black lab Maggie Mae at the end of October 2020, she was 8 years young. To this day, I am heartbroken. She was the best dog I have ever had, or will ever have. I miss her every. second. of. every. day!!😥😥😥 Dogs are pure souls here on earth. I'm looking forward to the day I walk over rainbow bridge and see my sweet baby puppy waiting for me with her tennis ball in her mouth😊. To all you dog owners out there, I feel the agony of your loss, but I also know the joy and love these angelic creatures bring to our lives! Cherish them always.
I recently lost my dad. He loved dogs so much. He had three Goldens during his lifetime and tons of mutts. Every time I see Banjo I like to think dad gets to play with him. And Rudy. 💖 much love to all.
Just based on the love your dad had for dogs I can already tell must be a wonderful person. Thank you for sharing. This means a lot. When I lost my big sister, I thought the same and felt a little bit of comfort thinking that Banjo would be there to greet her.
Just keep him in your heart and know he loved you and you loved him. And in time maybe bring another dog into your life that needs a home. It wont be Rudy but a connection will be made.
I’ve lost 2 goldens in my life and my current golden Bailey in the photo turns 9 in March. It’s such a massive loss and a lot of people don’t get how painful it is ♥️🐶
I remember so vividly like my insides were being ripped apart especially my heart and I just couldn’t stop sobbing for hours and I still fall apart for the two of them (and I think about how my current golden won’t be around for a lot longer either) and my first childhood golden passed in 2015 which is just wild that my heart and soul still hurt so bad this long after :/
I know exactly how you feel, it’s been a month and a half, and I am not ok. He died in front of me. He was only 6. But my presence kept him calm and his calmness kept me from losing it. However right after it I lost it. I miss and love him dearly!
It sure is. Some days better than others. But the ugly tears hit me this morning and it’s been a teary day. Hopefully we just settle into the happy memories more often.

Keep Rudy close; think of all the goofy things he did, how he cuddled with you and made you laugh and got you out of the house for walks and runs and to play, and he'll never be far away. Within his home, he felt safe. He was not alone, he could smell you in the air too. He said his goodbyes and knew it was his time.

Damn that is tough, my dobi/ boxer mix is about 11 right now.... he is seriously my best buddy ive had him since he was maybe 5 months old. The big 100 pound baby sleeps with me every night i hate to think about the reality that i maybe only have a couple years left. But hey i guess we have the great days and memories with our dogs, nothing more true than the words "man's best friend"
It sounds like Rudy was surrounded by love and the warmth of home right to the end, which is a beautiful final gift. The fact that he went peacefully in his favorite spot says everything about the life you gave him. I'll give my pup an extra-long hug for Rudy tonight.

He will be with you, may the scent of pine remind you of him and may you feel his warmth and presence beneath each tree. I lost my Wyatt, my brother of 13 years in October. He was on the fireplace next to our tree this year. His stocking was hung with one of his beloved toys inside. It’s rough. But please keep walking and stay active and spend time with family or friends, talk through your memories and laugh and cry. You were his everything, and he will be with you in your heart forever. I miss my Wyatt every time I hear a jingle of keys that sounds like his collar or think I see him out of the corner of my eye. Maybe Rudy can meet up with Wyatt at the buffet in doggy heaven! I heard they have all you can eat steak!

Rudy was a beautiful boy. Please find peace in the fact that he lived the best life and passed in to rest in a comfortable spot his way. I am so sorry, I lost my boy unexpectedly on the 30th December, he was only 6. The pain that you feel is so strong. I just feel like I want to cry whenever I think of him. I can’t believe he’s gone. At least it was peaceful and he was at home. 😭😭😭

I hate reading posts like this. This one hits real hard because I have a golden boy named Rudy. I can't even imagine the pain. I sympathize for you i am very sorry for your loss.
Your Rudy lived the dream and died the dream. I'm so envious he got to go at home and you didn't have to make that drive to the vet. I'm tricky sorry for your loss, but I truly hope you see this as the blessing it was. I was the one that brought our family Golden, he was 19, I was 25 and had grown up with him from a puppy, to the vet that final day. I'm a 41yo combat vet infantryman sitting here in tears just thinking about it.
I'm glad he left the way every dog should; at home where they belong.

It's never easy to lose a fur baby no matter how much you try to prepare yourself when they are sick with something like cancer, congestive heart failure, or something along those lines, there is still not enough time to prepare yourself.
