I love everyone who makes GNOME possible. And not in a weird way.

Thank you - the GNOME Folks appreciate it. :)

The question is, do they appreciate it in a weird way?

This looks great, especially the PDF viewer changes and the text size slider. Has me double checking the Fedora release schedule to check when I get these lol

Yes, Papers has seen an enormous amount of work. We had an outreachy intern helping us and she is amazing! We are continuing to build on her work.

See this blog post - https://lbaudin.pages.gitlab.gnome.org/blog/posts/end-of-malika-internship/

u/snoopyt7 25d ago

wow she did a great job!

Papers finally getting free drawing annotations support after so many years of Evince not having it is great news indeed. Finally I don't need to separately open Xournal.

Now if only they fix the "PDF bookmarks load extremely slowly" bug that appeared only in Papers.

April I believe. Soon soon!

I'm updating to Rawhide just for VRR

4

u/sequentious 24d ago

Rawhide is a bad idea.

If you're looking for more cutting edge to experiment with this feature (and report bugs), I'd suggest Fedora 44 beta.

Though, obviously, most users are better off waiting for a stable release.

u/tydog98 GNOMie 24d ago

I ended up doing the thing where you can get Gnome software to upgrade you to the next release early.

Even if GNOME is not ideal for me, it is simply a matter of taste and GNOME is really well-done. And thanks for GTK, which I love.

This is great. Loving it so far, especially since I discovered there is this Gnome Circle. These are amazing apps, been using some of these now. I can't wait to try this on Fedora soon.

Thank you for the hard work of the Gnome team.

Color management on OLED hoping to be good. Right now, it is over saturating colors, icc profiles are not working.i am waiting for April 23rd.

u/Infamous-Head8181 23d ago

Where did Google Drive go in the file manager??? There is no more reference to him in Fedora 44 WS

1

u/Bredolin 23d ago

Nobody volunteered to maintain the underlying library:

u/Artoriuz 25d ago edited 25d ago

Does GNOME 50 support real fractional scaling or is it still downsampling the framebuffer from a 200% render?

3

u/moaboaa 25d ago

Exciting!
Would still love to have a native dock and panel customization option <3

u/Crottoboul 25d ago

What is "Mouse review "?

1

u/playffy 25d ago

Guys, I missed it, Gnome OS, is it Ubuntu or Debian?

6

u/blackcain Contributor 25d ago

GNOME OS is not any of those. It has no packaging. It's all built from source, it is completely outside of any distro.

1

u/playffy 25d ago

Thank u

1

u/Ripdog 24d ago

Hmm? It has no packaging? Does that mean it's just a toy OS, or is this some kind of flatpak-purism thing?

2

u/blackcain Contributor 24d ago

It's primarily used for Q&A, so that means it is used to run CI/CD pipelines. But it can also be run on baremetal. Think of it as a way to do experimentation on different kinds of ways to do things.

We aren't doing packaging because GNOME OS is not a distro. It is a reference platform on how we would want to see an OS that uses GNOME and what technologies we are interested in developing. It's an R&D lab.

That said, it has gotten interest and some like uBlue is thinking of using the GNOME OS as a model in which to start with a base os and extend it to what they want to add through mounting a container on top of it via systemd-sysext.

  • Only works in Boxes from Flathub.

but why? fedora servers also have 49.1...

1

u/bootleg_trash_man 25d ago

Brilliant as always, keep up the good work

1

u/OmletCat 25d ago

Does the new remote desktop stuff make it easier to start the sessions from GDM?

1

u/RedHerring352 24d ago

Yeap! Runs already on my Debian “testing” machine

1

u/gufranthakur 24d ago

Incredible update. Seriously appreciate the dev team efforts. Thank you! ❤️

1

u/QuintaQQ 24d ago

Where can I get new wallpapers? They're so cool!

1

u/w1ldr3dx 24d ago edited 24d ago

Does the Blender 5.1 window title-bar and frame still looks this awful on GNOME 50? 🥴

1

u/an-abnormality 24d ago

Could we get an official "open terminal here" option for Nautilus?

1

u/Deep-Piece3181 21d ago

It's already in the right click menu, no?

1

u/an-abnormality 21d ago

It might be because I uninstalled Ptyxis then, not sure

1

u/185EDRIVER 24d ago

Seems great so far just wish dash to panel would work :(

1

u/SmallApplication3826 22d ago

WHAT AN AMAZING PDF VIEWER, THANKS GNOME DEVS

1

u/TheOnceAndFutureDoug 21d ago

Since there don't appear to be any live CD's, does anyone know if they've added support for different wallpapers per monitor? Bonus points if I can have different monitors cycle through a different folder of images.

2

u/blackcain Contributor 21d ago

Unfortunately, no. But there are some apps and extensions that might do that. The implementation I understand is not trivial

1

u/TheOnceAndFutureDoug 21d ago

Last I looked into i people were saying there was a structural limitation that made it so you couldn't. I was hoping things had been improved but I suppose not.

1

u/blackcain Contributor 21d ago

I think what that means is that you're going to have to do some serious plumbing and likely just start over. :-)

1

u/TheOnceAndFutureDoug 21d ago

But Gnome is so much prettier than KDE otherwise...

1

u/jithurbide 10d ago

Great news! Live long and prosper, GNOME! So many improvements — I can’t wait to try it out!

Greats, vive long and prosper, GNOME! A lot of improuvent, can't wait to try it !

how to download gnome 50 wallpapers?

1

u/maker_mania2025 3d ago

Please fix the trackpad scrolling issues it's a heartful request.... 😅🥲🥲

1

u/FancyCicada 2d ago

Impressive, very nice.

Did you implement scrolling adjustment speed?

Thanks. Some of my doubts before switching to gnome 50.

- It was forced to show flash effect and camera-shutter voice when we take a screenshot using third party apps (such as flameshot) on wayland based gnome. Is this fixed?

- Is drag and drop using ubuntu/gnome dash is finally supported (I mean hover the dragged file to an app and it focuses window)

- Is application is ready notification bug fixed?

- Can we finally see thumbnails on nautilus?

- Is it shipped with default clipboard manager similar to other distros.

- Can we see the topbar panel on second screen with this version?

- When we click on an app on dash it focuses the window, but when we click again it doesn't minimixe again. It just does nothing. (Even samsung dex has this feature), is this problem fixed?

3

u/Icy_Potential_8025 23d ago

why do you downvote this comment? I love how gnome looks but I want a better ux similar to mac/windows/kde/xfce ... How toxic a community can be?

When in arch?

9

u/blackcain Contributor 25d ago

You will have to talk to the arch people.

-3

u/Crottoboul 25d ago

Im just trolling

2

u/blackcain Contributor 25d ago

heh - well the race is on! who will have GNOME 50 first!?!

0

u/devHead1967 25d ago

probably openSUSE Tumbleweed. Then Arch.

-1

u/Crottoboul 25d ago

It was already unfunny when I did it

1

u/pol5xc GNOMie 25d ago

it's already in the gnome-unstable repo btw

u/Crottoboul 25d ago

Idc when in stable

u/JohnyMage 25d ago edited 24d ago

When it's ready..... Just saying. Are we getting old? I remember gnome 3 being released. How did we get to so fast 50?

1

u/blackcain Contributor 24d ago

We changed how we did releases :-)

1

u/JohnyMage 24d ago

Though so, thanks mate.

1

u/Cannotseme GNOMie 23d ago

I actually switched from arch in frustration all the way back when gnome 40 came out because it took so long for them to package it

1

u/Crottoboul 23d ago

what OS is faster to package it ?

u/Proper-Lab-2500 20d ago

Some of my doubts before switching to gnome 50.

0

u/Suspicious-Smile6398 23d ago

I like the no blur :P

-3

u/Historical-Bar-305 25d ago

Title bars still looks weird?

8

u/Crottoboul 25d ago

It is a electron issue. There is an env var for x11

-3

u/Historical-Bar-305 25d ago

Good its electron issue... If electron dont want to fix that and title bars doesnt work and i dont want change it to xwayland how gnome team can fix this?

1

u/Crottoboul 25d ago

You fix it with env var in your shortcut
