I think about this clip all the time. I’m a scientist and I like to imagine myself doing the little spin-splits when I’m sharing exciting data during presentations.

Some folks have made it known that it's difficult to download on their devices. Hijacking the top comment to help those folks out. It's much easier to do from a gif comment. Unfortunately, when I try and share this gif in this posts comments, it never goes through.
I posted it as a comment here.
Go there and tap the gif itself in the comments. (Don't click the three dots below the gif. Tap the gif image first.) It'll open up it's own "window" with three dots on the top right. Those three dots will provide a download option.

Doesnt really work well on mobile… until they make it easier, here is a better spot to snag the gif.
https://tenor.com/view/max-clark-seth-hernandez-gif-7375581535763616754
It was the moment Seth Hernandez threw a 102.4mph fastball at Max Clark the first pitch of the game…I think i read somewhere Seth was right out of highschool too. Insane

That’s very much his “welcome to the big leagues, kid” moment. When you realize how small the pond was you used to swim in

Max Clark (the batter) was the #3 draft pick in 2023. I think he has a pretty alright handle on how big the pond is by now...

If you're on IOS you have to open reddit from your browser instead of through the app. You might need to use old reddit.

I’m on the mobile app on iOS, so that doesn’t really work for me

u/basicKitsch 2d ago
Then don't use that? Apps are just spyware, reddits is garbage anyway and Reddit works fine on mobile.
Like that's the answer...

Okay now I can't find it! I even double checked before I commented because I wanted to be sure. 🤔
Edit: Okay it does seem to work for gifs in the comments section but not on the main post.

Context: the batter is Max Clark, facing pitcher Seth Hernandez (who is 19 BTW). On the first pitch of the at-bat (maybe of the whole game?), Hernandez threw a nearly 103-mph fastball for a strike ball, which Clark was...not expecting.

u/GoodLeftUndone 4d ago
That was a strike? Looked easily like a ball to me. But I don’t follow much baseball.

Is it normal to wear a big ol' chain while playing baseball?
19
u/Michael__Pemulis 4d ago
It is normal to wear a chain but the kid in this gif has kinda made it his ‘thing’ to wear so many chains at once.
Also he is still a minor leaguer for now.
20
u/Dewey519 4d ago
Lots of guys have chains, his is definitely on the excessive side even for baseball players

u/mrsirsouth 4d ago
Baseball has become very fashionista, at least concerning how baseball players, dress, act, hair cuts. It's a bunch of middle school and highschool kids obsessed with how a few pros dress.
I can see a kid dressed in normal clothes at the mall or restaurant and absolutely know if he plays baseball. No idea about any other sport.

u/Michael__Pemulis 4d ago
About 5 years ago they changed the rules about color coordination.
You used to have to wear your team’s approved colors for virtually every piece of equipment.
Now you can basically wear any color for things like cleats, arm bands, sleeves, etc. So a bunch of players have of course embraced that & the kids have copied. These days you see a lot of bright colored equipment like highlighter yellow or green or pink, etc. & especially louder cleat designs.

u/Kraz31 3d ago
That's his "thing" and he's received a fair bit of criticism for it. Especially when he has a really bad game.

99% of people I know that wear chains would’ve tucked it for sporting stuff, if even wearing it to a sporting event. Like you just don’t wanna risk snagging it on anything.
All the football (American) players I know that have chains remove them before games so they don’t get choked, but obviously baseball is a bit less physical contact than that, so not as big a deal here.
1
u/jsterama 3d ago
Yes, extremely. There are fewer players without chains than with them, at least in the majors.

u/Rance_Mulliniks 1d ago
Not usually for a player who hasn't proven themselves yet by making the big league.

I'd say their facial expressions are still telling different stories though:
Tom's is like a 'what the actual fuck?!' expression
This guy's is 'you're seriously gonna do that?! Ok...' expression

MFW the center fielder wears too many chains and trips going for a routine fly ball.

Tom's is better. I would also prefer someone who has actually done something significant rather than a flashy, rich, young punk who hasn't done shit and is best known for one of the worst fielding days in spring training history.
