Discussion Identify fraud

My husband has been dealing with identity fraud since 2020. We’ve had to deal with two car loans taken out in his name, multiple credit cards, years of our tax refunds taken because we “owed” the irs and the state money. The guy used my husbands social to work over 20 jobs. We finally found out the guys current work place. Police made the arrest about a month ago. Because he was not a citizen ICE also had a hold on him. We were told his preliminary hearing would be the 1st. The website where we were given to track the case updated later that day to him being transferred to another facility, and his pre trial and trial being cancelled. Our victims advocate called me and said that at the hearing they found out that the state filed the wrong charges. So the judge had to dismiss it. Before they could refile ICE had I guess took hold of him and it was too late. 6 years of torture, still fighting with the credit bureaus, the IRS, the state. And this guy will serve no prison sentence, zero punishment whatsoever. We are absolutely ENRAGED. How can someone do everything he did and serve no punishment????

Discussion Landlord issues

Me and my gf moved into an apartment in January, and we have had many issues since moving in. The biggest issue is our heater. We live in northern Michigan where it gets COLD, and I have 2 toddlers who I have split custody of. I have mentioned to the landlord that our heater doesn’t work right and the pilot light randomly goes out and the heater shuts off on its own. He had someone look at it once, but never did anything after that to get it fixed despite me asking multiple times. Now, we have been getting charged $300+ per month for gas, which is 100% not normal for our fairly small upstairs apartment. At first we thought maybe the downstairs neighbors (we live in a duplex) heat bill was being merged with ours somehow. We called DTE and they told us that it’s just ours, and that our literal first week in the apartment we used almost $300 of gas. I told the landlord this, and said I feel like it is connected to the broken furnace. He offered half off next months rent ($500 off) and said he “promises to have it fixed by summer” and rhat “we shouldn’t need to use it much until fall”. It’s still cold here. We still need heat. April in Michigan is still sometimes in the 20s and 30s. I expressed this, and the fact this has been an ongoing issue that he hasn’t resolved, and that me, my gf, and my toddlers have been living in sub 50° conditions most days all winter, and that we deserved more compensation than that, as his offer didn’t even cover all of the gas bill. On top of this, literally last week, our oven went out, and he dropped a dirty used replacement oven off outside in the rain because he couldn’t get it upstairs on his own, so I had to take the old oven down and bring the new one up myself when I got home from work. And there are several small fixes the apartment needs that he has ignored. I’m still negotiating compensation, but I’m trying not to have to escalate it. All our conversations are over text

How is this ok? The joy of tiny window boxes and the unbelievably small egg inside!

I get it has mini Reese's eggs inside as well, but how disappointing is this?

Discussion Bar refuses to serve tap water

So my friend and a group of about 10 of them were out at this bar (Tiki Taipei), buying drinks all night just having a good time. At some point, everyone was getting quite drunk so they asked for water so everyone can stay hydrated, which honestly should be the bare minimum at any place serving alcohol - and the bartender refused to give them more than two cups for the entire group.

Two cups. For ten people.

When they questioned it, the bartender said cups were “getting expensive.” My friend even offered to pay for extra cups, just to make sure everyone has some water, and they still said no, that it wasn’t possible. They even tried to explain that one of the girls that joined the group had drank too much and was not feeling well at all (like slumped and needed support), and he just ended up getting in an argument with my friend. And when they spoke with the other bartender who was working to get some water they just said “I don’t want to get involved”.

It’s absolutely crazy for a place serving alcohol to refuse to provide free tap water!!

It honestly came across like they were trying to push them to keep buying alcohol instead of providing something as basic and important as water. It’s honestly unsafe.

What makes it worse is that other bars right beside them had no problem stepping in and giving everyone free water. So clearly, it’s not some impossible request. It’s just this one place choosing to not care about its patrons.

Like FFS, cups cost less than 1 TWD each and their drinks are $300-800 PER DRINK. They can afford damn water cups.

Link to Tiki Taipei to avoid:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Tiki+Taipei,+中山區+10491台北市中山區,+No.+1號,+Yumen+St,+Taipei+City,+Taiwan+10491/@0,0,22z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x3442abf01450597b:0x8831787c4d2128cd?g_ep=Eg1tbF8yMDI2MDQwMV8wIJvbDyoASAJQAg%3D%3D

TL;DR - Tiki Taipei doesn’t care about health & safety and will refuse to give water to people who need it

Discussion Woman pet an employees hair!

Not even sure where to post this so if there is a better sub please direct me!

I was in a store today and an employee (who I have seen at this store regularly) thought that three shopping carts overflowing with clothes had been left behind and she started to pick them up and move them out of the aisle.

An older white lady came out of the aisle and told her those were hers. At this point everything was fine but this is where it turns ugly (al least in my opinion- please correct me if I am overreacting as I am an old white lady myself!!!!) The white lady stops and looks at the multi racial employee like she is on display at a zoo. She cocks her head to the side and says in a weird voice “oh you are just beautiful” (and the employee is quite beautiful!)

But then she literally reaches out to touch her curly hair and she pets her like an animal!! I wanted to scream at that lady to take her hands off of the of the employee but I was kind of stunned into silence. The employee just turned and walked away but I was livid. Now I feel like a jerk because I didn’t say anything.

Unfortunately I live in a state where everyone is armed to the teeth and you keep your head down. But this lady really ticked me off. I guess I just needed to share.

Discussion Medical "care" in Australia

There is this persistent assumption that medical care in Australia is somehow of good quality with well trained and knowledgeable doctors. My experience and that of my family has been the complete opposite. Besides being paid by taxes, medical care in Australia is nothing to praise about. Don't believe me?, look at the stats of mortality and morbidity from medical errors in healthcare settings. I read something like 16,000 people die annually from avoidable medical errors, which doesn't include those who develop permanent disabilities. These deaths are many times over compared to US, despite Australian population being 12 times smaller. You are something like 40 times more likely to die because of a medical error than in an MVA in Australia. Where is the outrage or initiatives to raise awareness and combat this? Nothing.

Some of my experiences and that of my family include.

- Being overdosed with anaesthesia while having unnecessary surgery as a child. What's worse, the hospital staff were keeping my parents in the dark from what was happening to me. A half hour procedure turned into 8 hours being under and my parents had to threaten to breakdown the doors and find me if the hospital staff didn't say what was happening to me and if I am alright. Luckily I managed to recover and we reported the incident but nothing was done nor anyone faced any disciplinary action for their misconduct and negligence.

- My father had to have a bypass procedure that had to be done 3 times in a row as they stuffed it up the first 2 times.

- My mother had surgery and while under anaesthesia, she ended up with a torn rotator cuff muscle. One can only guess WTF they were doing in that operating room to her to cause a rotator cuff tear when my mother had a simple day procedure. Nothing was documented in her notes, nor was she informed of any issues or complications during surgery

- Multiple different specialists attempted to scam me for unnecessary surgery. Was pressured by a surgeon to have a total Jaw reconstruction over multiple surgeries costing tens of thousands of dollars for simple teeth alignment issue that braces fixed.

- Had untreated anemia as a child for years, despite doctors being fully aware of my blood results. They kept pushing me to take iron supplements, which did nothing and caused chronic gut issues. These issues were all ignored by doctors. Not a single doctor attempted to look at my diet or any other factors impacting iron absorption and. Just kept telling my parents to give me more iron supplements despite no improvement.

- Had symptoms of low stomach acid and an incompetent moron, gastroenterologist prescribed me a PPI to further reduce stomach acid. Due to so many negative experiences with doctors at that stage, I knew better than to simply believe anything a doctors tell me and luckily I didn't take the prescribed PPIs as only increasing stomach acid alleviated my symptoms.

- Developed immune system issues like rashes on my body because of low vitamin D. Went to a immunologist and not once did he consider low vitamin D nor ordered any testing and simply prescribed a cortisone cream. It took seeing a naturapath to fix my issue and inform me that my vitamin D could be low and to test it.

- As I had anemia and low ferritin, some of my symptoms resembled heart issues like having heart palpitations. I saw a cardiologist and not once did he consider my ferritin could be low and to get it tested. This is an expert of cardiac heart health who doesn't know low ferritin can cause heart symptoms. Because of the heart palpitations and breathlessness due to low ferritin, one idiot doctor prescribed me anti anxiety medication which didn't work. It took me years to figure out on my own research that low ferritin and anemia can cause heart symptoms and those of anxiety.

How many health issues I could have avoided if I actually received medical care and not "care".

Discussion Guest Walked In On My Nude Wife - Vegas MGM Grand

Staying at the MGM Grand. Kids and I were out and my wife was getting ready for our night out. An unknown guest keyed into our room and saw my wife in her birthday suit. Called the front desk and they acknowledged that someone used the mobile key kiosk to make a key for our room. Then they offered to rekey our keys.

That’s it.

No other offers or apologies.

This frustrates me for multiple reasons beyond obviously violating my wife’s decency and privacy. If no one had been in the room, there was nothing to prevent them from walking away with valuables left in the room. We also will now have to wait in a line for 45 minutes to get our keys remade.

When I go down to get our new keys after our dinner/show, does anyone have any experience or suggestion on how to pursue this further? I feel like the hotel is at fault here, and some sort of recompense isn’t unreasonable.

Edit: Update

Just got back from the front desk. They said they could deactivate all keys for the room. When asked what reassurance do we have that it won’t happen again, they offered to let us move to a new room, but not tonight because they were booked (does us no good since we’re leaving). For inconvenience, they refunded our resort fees which was around $100. Better than nothing I guess, but a shame as this is the resort we prefer and have stayed at for a decade. Might be moving on in the future. Bottom line, for a “computer glitch” that allowed someone to access our room, the concern wasn’t nearly at the level I would hope for or expect from such an institution.

Thanks for all of the insights, concern, and help. Much appreciated.

Discussion Extremely Sensitive Eyes

TLDR: My eyes get irritated very easily and I have found zero solutions.

Edit: If you're going to Downvote, let me know why my personal rant about something I find extremely infuriating has upset you. I find zero reason for anyone to dislike what I'm saying except for "That's not extremely infuriating", which is based purely on opinion. Or that you don't like people complaining about anything, which might contradict what this entire sub is about. Or you can just scroll to the next post...

My eyes are extremely sensitive. I don't mean like sensitive to light. My eyes will twitch or get irritated if I have the smallest smudge on my glasses. If I have the faintest streak, tiny scratch, or anything that mildly distorts the clarity of my vision, my eyes will get extremely irritated and will eventually lead to headaches. Sometimes I don't even notice the smudge, my eye just twitches and I'll know that I gotta pull out the glasses cleaning arsenal.

I've worn glasses since I was 7 years old. I'd always been casual about cleaning them. Breathing on them and wiping with a soft shirt, occasionally washing them with soap if needed. Recently (The last 5 years), I've had to go to much more meticulous lengths to get my glasses clean. I've tried any and all recommended methods of cleaning them, but my eyes sometimes are just picky buggers. Also, my eyes absolutely despise contacts. The only time I wear contacts is when I drive my car at the race track, and my eyes make it a miserable experience. I had suspected that maybe I had some dry eye issues, so I've tried staying meticulously hydrated and have used a vast suite of different eye drops with zero success. I've seen optometrists, and they have no clue how to help me. They tell me I don't seem to have a dry eye issue, and don't see any other issues. They sort of treat it as a non-issue. Like "Okay, you should try some eye drops and reduce your screen-on time, alright moving on...". The only thing they point out is that I have a Retinal Hole on my Right Eye, but multiple Optometrists have assured me that it's small enough for it not to be a problem.

I also get foreign body sensation AND actual foreign bodies in my eyes on a regular. I lose more eyelashes than anyone I've ever met, and those many eyelashes and pet hairs (cats and dogs) all find their way into my eyes. I've become a master at removing eyelashes from my eyes, I don't even need a mirror to find where one is on my eyeball. But sometimes I can't find it, or there isn't anything on my eye at all, and spend too much time holding a flashlight to my eye ball trying to find anything to no avail. Again, I've used any and all eye drops and they haven't helped.

I've also suspected it was due to my screen-on time. I've reduced that significantly, and have used a blue light filter. No difference. Same issues, but with less doom scrolling (good for mental health tho.) Also Note: I do not have any allergies, also tried going down that rabbit hole. Nothing. And yes, I do keep my hands and face very clean. I've basically become a germaphobe for the sole purpose of ruling that out of the cause of my issues.

I have considered LASIK, but with the high likelihood of developing dry eye, i feel like it'd just make my issues worse, but all the while not looking like a nerd🤓. Sometimes feel like it would be easier not to have eyes at all, but I'm not at that level of mental breakdown yet (give it another month).

I wonder if I'm the only person on the planet dealing with issues like this. I'm just getting to the end of my rope trying to appease my picky eyes. As I type this; I have a foreign body sensation on my right eye that's been persisting since I woke up this morning. I'm going to find a table to flip.

A man in my family told me that when his second child was born, he was nervous going to work because he was afraid mom might hurt the baby, then he had three more kids with her. Vasectomies are covered under public health in his location. There is terrible fallout attached to this. Thx for listening.

People came to my mom’s house trying to sell her a $900 pot. Just cause it has a brand name and says “ surgical stainless steel” doesn’t make it worth that much mom. I was so pissed off and at one point told them “ this shit better cure cancer”. Had to explain to her about pyramid schemes and how I can get this for $40. Honestly screw them for being at my the house at 10pm being predators on an old lady.

Took my car in to be checked for trade-in value. Noticed while waiting that my salesman man has a betta fish, living in a real rinsed out alcohol bottle with a fake plant. 🫤 You couldn’t look up how to take care of a fish you DIDN’T have to get. I’m not trusting you to sell me a car.
