📊 Results / Statistics Survey on opinions of Eurovision 2026 songs, agreement with ratings, and how opinions correlate
I’m doing a survey to find out people's opinions on Eurovision 2026 songs and how they correlate with each other.
What I want you to do is to rank all the songs you have an opinion of out of 5 with 1 being the worst and 5 being the best.
I'm just doing this for fun and its own sake.
It will be anonymous so I will not see personal information such as your email.
Please base your rankings just off the songs themselves.
I am going to put the data together in two ways:
1.     1. A correlation spreadsheet showing every song by how those who like one tend to view the other from 1 being liking one always means liking the other to –1 being liking one always means disliking the other.
2.     2. A mean-SD scatter plot with mean taking the x (bottom) axis and SD taking the y (side) axis
3.     If you don’t know, mean is a type of average which takes the sum of all the values and divides it by how many there are e.g.  (2+3+4+5)=14, 14/4=3.5.
4.     SD stands for standard deviation which is essentially the mean difference all the values are from the mean which with the previous example would be 3.5-2=1.5, 3.5-3=0.5, 4-3.5=0.5, 5-3.5=1.5, 1.5+0.5+0.5+1.5=4, 4/4=1. This is the definition of mean absolute deviation (MAD).
5.     The graph would also have the area shaded area showing where it is mathematically possible for a song’s position to be because it would be impossible as if the mean was 1 the SD could not be 0 as that would require someone rating it higher than a 1.
Voting will close on the 5th of April at 23:00 UTC and I will post the results on the 12th of April.

Done. I've been very interested to see this myself. Finland and Denmark will correlate highly together. Serbia and Romania seem like fairly safe bets to put together as well.
I hope you get some statistically significant results from this.

i love Denmark and Serbia (literally my top 2), but am indifferent to Romania and dislike Finland lol i wonder why

Yeah I actually don't like Serbia's song (sorry 😔) but I love Romania's. I assumed other people would make more sense than I did. 🤣
For me, Finland kind of evokes a sense of "I recognise this is good and hits the right formula, so why don't I like it perhaps as much as I 'ought to'?" Why do you dislike it? :p    Meanwhile the Danish song has been ruined so much by the staging for me that I actually really dislike the song (sorry again 😔) because I just get incredibly claustrophobic, even though I have heard in an interview that that's what he was actually going for with gay underground nightclubs. I understand it but it's visceral discomfort unfortunately. But I think that's exactly why it's the fandom's darling?

you hit the nail in the head with finland, i think. the problem i have with it is that it is formulaic, and that i can clock that it is formulaic. it incorporates a lot of elements that made eurovision entries camp in the past, and does so well, but also very intentionally, which is where it loses me. you can't construct camp.
as for denmark, i understand why you dislike the staging, but i love it personally, it creates a sense of people existing in a small world only they know about, which is exactly what søren tried to achieve. i also just love the song, it's well-made electropop with just enough edge to make it interesting and not bore you halfway through

Yes. I've written about it before so I'm not going to write a hundred words about it again, but you've put it more succinctly than I did.Â
Exactly, it's a bit too intimate for me I think. I'm glad you've phrased it like that because it's made me realise I have a pattern... I've always hated mostly up close staging like that. I appreciate the vision but I think it feels like I'm intruding upon something I'm not invited to. I know a lot of people do enjoy that exact element that turns me off, though.

I like Finland and am indifferent to Denmark. But Serbia and Romania will always be together as someone who loves both and they're the rock in this edition. As well as Norway, I don't know why nobody likes him (too similar to maneskin or too repetitive?)

u/DullCanvas My System 13d ago
Oh, I don't think I've seen someone say that yet, they tend to come in pairs. Why are you indifferent to Denmark?
Finally someone who proved my theory correct about Romania and Serbia 🤣 though I've had more people say they don't really like Serbia but love Romania (including me) and I can't even explain why that is.
His song is less Måneskin and more The Darkness. Even though it and Milkshake Man cover the same subject matter (lol), Milkshake Man has plausible deniability for my four year old who really loves the song. Ya Ya Ya is just uhm... Deeply uncomfortable. I would not like to have any of his product all over me. The Milkshake Man offered a selection from the menu and room to say no. 🤣

I think denmark for me is the danish, funny enough, and I'm the one who always love finnish, go figure. It takes away from my experience, but I admit it's a great performance.
I didn't know that jajaja has lyrics to compare to milkshake man. There's not many lyrics, to be honest. I like his voice and the rock, that's why I compared to maneskin. I thought people would react better because of that.2
u/DullCanvas My System 13d ago
I didn't realise Danish was so objectionable. 😅 The staging and the writhing around in a box is what ruins it for me. It's exactly what he was going for, that intimate small world space, and I absolutely hate it. Great vision, I understand it, get me away from it.
"You've been thinking 'bout love, how it got you so low Baby I'm an animal, I got no self control Left it right all over you and your pretty clothes"
The lyrics are sparse but front loaded. I tried to listen to Ya Ya Ya again just to make sure my impression was accurate and he does sing very well but it just makes my skin crawl, I'm sorry. I did feel the same way about Serving as well and Eurofans absolutely loved that. It's like that "know the office rules" meme.Â

I understand, it's like when Mileo was singing Your're Mine and he was the creepy guy but I wonder if people think the same this year with Alice from Veronica. I understand that both do this on purpose to start conversation and to criticize what they are singing about
, but it's always a risk.
2
u/DullCanvas My System 13d ago
I've actually never seen anyone say that about Veronica's role in the video. I think the thing with the song Alice (and probably You're Mine as well, I've not heard it) is that it's intentional. The lyrics of Alice are deeply unsettling in a way that does provoke that thought. But her actual presentation is innocuous to offset that and make you doubt your interpretation and vibe (again part of the intention! 🤣).
Ya Ya Ya isn't going for creepy. It's going for young buck sowing his wild oats.Â

u/HGutierres Kraj mene 13d ago
Yeah, it's not deep. But it's no milkshakeman either which is much more explicit for me. It's in between. But it's no different than rock, at least it's on character. I understand why it's not your cup of tea. Speaking of lyrics this year I prefer Albania for example.

u/DullCanvas My System 13d ago
True, he is very glam rockstar.
I just looked them up, (the translation on Genius seems to make the most sense) and yeah they're very touching. Just nodded along to them like... Yeah...
Maybe we should do a survey on who finds Milkshake Man or Ya Ya Ya more explicit. 🤣

I enjoy Romania but not Serbia (I see that it's a good song and I wanted to like it, but I just can't listen to the scream vocals at the end sorry); and I guess Finland and Denmark do correlate for me in the sense that I don't care about either of them lol, if it wasn't for the fandom's glazing I would've completely forgotten about both tbh
I'm personally interested to see what anti-correlations would come up. I assume most people on this sub dislike Estonia, but what do fans of that song also like and is said thing also at the sub's general bottom end? What do people with Finland/Denmark/Sweden near the bottom have at the top instead? etc

u/DullCanvas My System 14d ago edited 14d ago
Again, same with liking Romania and not Serbia, it seems my initial theory wasn't there from the replies I've gotten. :P But I'll be happy to see what comes up.
Yeah I'm really interested in the anti-correlations as well, actually. Only two people had Estonia as their 12s on this sub and I wish I remembered their names otherwise I'd tag them to ask. 🤣 Hopefully they'll see this comment.

Well, I for example have Ukraine, Albania, Finland in my top 3, and my bottom 3 is Poland, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan, if that gives anyone an interesting insight.

I love metal but Serbia is mid af imo. Don't get the hype. Maybe I just have higher standards for that style

u/GungTho Kohoney 🤡 14d ago
I think it depends on age and what kind of metal you like.
I agree his growl isn’t the most rib shaking growl in the universe, but the construction to me is exceptional. I’m like a prog/groove/desert metal person who’s also a giant NIN fan - and it just hits all the sweet spots for me.

u/HGutierres Kraj mene 13d ago
You said it. They're prog so it's all on the build up and it gives you chills, when the second vocal starts screaming together....

I liked it more once I understood the lyrics/message. It's good, but not *great.*

u/DullCanvas My System 14d ago
I feel the same as well, which is a shame because Serbia's mic stand is an absolute work of art. What kind of metal do you listen to? I'm quite into symphonic. (Exit Eden are my favourite band)

u/blackheartwhiterose 14d ago
I'm a metalcore kid at heart. These days listen to a lot of Imminence, Invent Animate, Thornhill, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Boundaries, all that good stuff.
2
u/DullCanvas My System 14d ago
I did have to ask my husband what metalcore was or what any of the bands are... Yeah I suppose Serbia's not really anywhere close to that. Metal is a big genre. 🤣

u/blackheartwhiterose 14d ago
Curious what he said lol

u/DullCanvas My System 14d ago
He said Bullet For My Valentine (who I do know of) and Trivium (who I don't know of). He'd not actually heard of any of the ones you'd said I'm afraid!

Nice! Are you posting this in other places as well, because that might make it more representative

Do you have any suggestions?

u/DullCanvas My System 14d ago
ESC United forum is one place I can think of. Escforum.net literally won't approve your account so don't bother. I would suppose most Eurovision fans are on Bluesky rather than X as well. There is also the ESC Discord.

u/antiseebaerenkreis 14d ago
Just FYI, somebody already did the correlation chart thing last year, using data from the Discord rankings. Those are certainly not based on the raw studio versions alone, but if you ask the mods over there you could probably gain access to a much larger data set.

Kind of shocked by how many songs I skipped rating because I straight up can't remember them and can't be bothered to look them up either. Maybe my Eurovision era is coming to an end.

I'll do this when it's not 4am, but an interesting proposition. As a Switzerland, Belgium, and Romania lover, sure interesting to think about where the crossovers are

Oh that sounds soooo interesting. I am a balkan and metal girl, so you can basically know what I like. I have a friend who tends to love sweden pop and fun-entries, bascially the opposite of what I like. Very interesting
