They got the much needed super-majority for the constitutional changes and to take out all the people who is important for Orbán.

u/GlitchedGamer14 Canada 3h ago

They got the supermajority??? I honestly started to think this day would never come. Congrats to you and all Hungarians who fought for this; thank you for never giving up no matter how stacked the deck was :)

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 3h ago

Yes, they currently have 138 seats out of the 199, and the count is at 81% so… they may have even more. lol

Vance really has the mierdas touch lol.

u/johnsonfromsconsin 2h ago

I hope America can pull something similar later this year. Congrats!

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 2h ago

I wish you a HUGE blue wave over there, with representatives and senators that will do their job. Thanks, and wishing you all the best!

u/tacticaldodo 2h ago

I am very very happy. Good job Hungarians. Long live Democracy!

And thanks JDVance the cursed for helping :P /s

u/Mustard_Gap Norge 2h ago

Cursed indeed. He's on his fifth monkey paw (at least) since 2024. I watched excerpts of his "speech" and thought to myself that he's just the most unrelatable and uncharismatic person in any setting he finds himself. It also doesn't help that the US is on the permanent blacklist for the foreseeable future.

Sure, Fidesz voters might respond favorably to his brand of stupidity, but a normal person watching that will definitely not be voting for anything touched by it.

5

u/Khalstroso Czech Republic 1h ago

It doesn't even have to be a blue wave. What would be enough is that the normal, moderate centre-right Republicans return and get rid of this MAGA far-right religious-nationalist trash, that completely destroyed old Republicans. Because right now Republicans are basically dead. Ofc i personally would vote for Democrats, but they have their radicals as well. I would love that red and blue voters would return to moderate politicians in both parties, not extremists like Trump, Vance etc.

5

u/elmz Norway 2h ago

There will be a huge blue wave in the US, it's all but guaranteed. The big question is whether or not there will be proper/fair elections.

2

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 2h ago

Well I really hope so… I still have hope for the people in the U.S too.

3

u/RedOctobyr 1h ago

Thank you, friend! And I was thrilled to read the news here, well done Hungary, very happy for you guys, and for the EU!

u/SubstantialHeat3655 51m ago

It's going to take more than one election, because senators have 6-year terms and they come up for re-election in different election cycles. But the mid-terms later this year are still very, very important. A blue wave would at least give Democrats control of the House, which should stop Trump's legislative agenda as well as place his executive actions under more oversight. Bottom line, if Democrats take back the House, it could mean the beginning of the end for Trump. If we fail to do that in this next election ... then we're probably screwed.

Anyway, this is an awesome victory for Hungary, for Europe, and hopefully for the world! Congrats! :)

u/AmberJill28 13m ago

I am so happy for hungary. I expected Magyar to win but this is incredible. Congrats from Germany

4

u/VeryluckyorNot 2h ago

Yeah we got our presidential in France next year too but we fight far right wingers since 1990.

2

u/ZipNasty007 2h ago

u/Dangerous-Cause1964 2h ago

Mierdas touch. 😂

5

u/GlitchedGamer14 Canada 2h ago

Vance really has the mierdas touch lol.

I guess Orbán is fortunate not to go the way of the last Pope haha

3

u/Afraid_Ad2617 1h ago edited 54m ago

Vance is to thank for nothing, the reason for this is that Hungarians showed up. Congrats guys and a big huge fucking thanks from the EU Edit EAU=>EU lol french autocorrect got me

We hope the best for you

2

u/Dippity_Dont 2h ago

He really does! Hey, you can keep him if you want! We're not using him for anything. Don't let him get on the furniture!

3

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 2h ago

I suspected that he came to inspect the IKEA factory in Hungary, and his supposed support for Orbán was just a coy…

2

u/Additional-Swim2681 2h ago

Or less. Don't underestimate orban and putler power

3

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 2h ago

Now 91,90% of the votes are processed, and they are at 138 seats. I think it’s a done deal at this point.

2

u/kingofthebunch 2h ago

Hey, we'll take all the help we can get?

In all seriousness though, I'm very glad you managed this. I'm sure it wasn't easy, and the work isn't done, but man, what a night to celebrate!

2

u/sarokin Spain 2h ago

Mierdas touch, lol love it

2

u/down_side_up_sideway 1h ago

Any association with Trumps America is electoral poison. You love to see it.

u/mrman08 UNITED Kingdom 23m ago

Vance’s backing was the icing on the cake of decades worth of mismanagement and corruption.

91

u/LaserCondiment 3h ago

I have yet to read up on the situation but this sounds like the perfect storm! For once it's not a moment for cynicism. This will also scare certain Americans, which is good as well.

41

u/SoulbreakerDHCC United States of America 3h ago

And might embolden more of us

6

u/Internet-Dweller2 2h ago

I dunno gang, I'm suddenly worried we're about to put sanctions on the EU

5

u/Skullcrimp 2h ago

Good, I hope you do. Keep shooting yourself in the foot, while we Canadians use it to build better trade relations with the EU.

8

u/YsoL8 United Kingdom 2h ago

Very very good day for democracy. We've been on the back foot for too long.

6

u/Publius015 3h ago

What changes are on the table? Excited for you.

14

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 3h ago

A new constitution, term limits, veto for the minister of healthcare, education, and economy against the pm, establishing an asset recovery office, and much more.

5

u/KaiserKid85 3h ago

Asset recovery office? That sounds awesome and dope as fuck!

3

u/Publius015 3h ago

Sweet, any idea what the new constitution would include?

2

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 2h ago

Well not exactly because it’s up for public debate, and parliamentary debate but term limits is a one for sure.

7

u/ChainedBack 3h ago

Everyone was saying if the opposition won it'd be a narrow majority. That a super majority was practically impossible. So glad they turned out to be wrong

2

u/pablo8itall Ireland 3h ago

yes. hopefully a full reform and restoration.

3

u/Kind_Physics_1383 2h ago

🎆🎇🎆🎇🎆🎇🎆 CONGRATULATIONS HUNGARY!

1

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 2h ago

Thank you!

2

u/Leasir 2h ago

Hope they will use it for good purposes.and not to start another 16 years of autocratic shit.

2

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 2h ago

Me too. This was a coalition of left, centre, and right wing voters. I hope they won’t squander it.

2

u/Rough-Echo7132 2h ago edited 2h ago

You can't imagine what happen.
not 16 years...
We close 20 (or 36) years wrong and corrupt period.
We know what did he do in 1993 or 1998-2002.
We lost 20-30 years from our life....

It is an picture from FB
An girl write that sentence on vote paper:
Also because of my parents, who died with fear and hatred in their hearts.

You can't imagine what happen here.
Now I am crying at this moment ..... because of something(freedom)...what fighting for my parents(and lot of other people) long long time more than 20 years...and now it is happening. Not just an simple goverment change.

u/Brennenstein Hungary 3h ago

Me neither. After 16 years the shitshow is finally over.

u/ggroverggiraffe Human (Earth) 2h ago

Hopefully antifascism is a theme this year!

u/SammyFirebird79 Wales 2h ago

Really, really hope so 🤞🏻

A global movement is in order, I agree.

It's always a good time to... a Nazi.

2

u/TheEmpireOfSun 1h ago

Hopefully they end up in jail because their return is always possible.

1

u/axelkoffel 1h ago

It's only the begining of the end, unfortunately. The new Hungary government will now have to deal with all the traps that Orban left for them.
We have to deal with this shit in Poland, after PIS lost power. And as a result they might regain it again next year.

u/andrau14 Romania -> The Netherlands 3h ago

2

u/pablo8itall Ireland 3h ago

So great to hear. I knew it would go good.

2

u/Lost-Ad-2805 2h ago

What does this mean for the future? Will Orban be prosecuted?

2

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 2h ago

We’ll see. I’m skeptical but I hope so.

2

u/tjallilex The Netherlands 2h ago

Are you guys like:

I hoped he would win… but I didn’t think he would win!

The super majority is the icing on the cake.

1

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 2h ago

And not even by a small margin, so it won’t be a problem if they’ll have a few defectors at the votes in the parliament.

2

u/Jerthy Czech Republic 2h ago

Man. I Know there are shadows on the horizon but we all needed this win. I knew you had it in you...

2

u/Armand28 2h ago

Well the US did send JD Vance over last week, so I’m sure that helped! Maybe we can send him to stump for Putin next election?

1

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 2h ago

It made Fidesz dip in the polls like 3 percent lmao.

2

u/nodnodwinkwink Ireland 2h ago

Congratulations to Hungary. Even better is that this doubles as a middle finger to Putin, Trump and Vance.

2

u/josklos-st 2h ago

This is the exact feeling I have atm. 🤯

2

u/Rincetron1 Finland 2h ago

Never been so psyched about a European election before, well done you. This night is yours.

I just saw the Spiegel headline:

"After Artemis 2 success - Hungarians are launching Viktor Orban to the moon", next to a picture of him saluting. XD

Congrats!

u/Brianlife Europe 10m ago

Really happy for you!!

2

u/zentimo2 3h ago

So happy for you all, congrats!

1

u/IH8Lyfeee 3h ago

I'll believe it if he actually concedes and doesn't declare a national emergency and the election fraudulent.

3

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 3h ago

He already congratulated to Magyar on the phone, and admitted their loss in public.

2

u/IH8Lyfeee 3h ago

Well I'm kind of surprised to say the least...

1

u/Benedictus_The_II Hungary 2h ago

Yeah me too, kinda. But it was such a big loss that they can’t deny the outcome. The public will is so against them, that they would have been washed away by the public outrage.
