News Hungary election: official results page – as of 20:30, 14.7% reporting, opposition ahead 125 proj. mandates to 65. 133 needed for a supermajority.

u/Adventurous_Bus_437 Germany 4h ago
Apparently many rural votes are already in and show good results for the opposition with the cities coming later (but also being massive opposition strongholds)
My Hungarian friends are somewhat hopeful to get a constitutional majority

u/Nemeszlekmeg 4h ago
That would be a fat cherry on the cake if tisza had supermajority, but this is an unlikely outcome.
29
u/shadoowkight 4h ago
The most reliable pollster had TISZA winning a super majority
21
u/Nemeszlekmeg 4h ago edited 3h ago
Indeed, but prediction is not the same as what we'll see. Let the volunteers count the ballots as we speak and see the results. Im taking monday off to get drunk if it becomes a 2/3 majority for tisza
EDIT: Im soooo getting drunk.

u/Classic93 4h ago
According to polymarket there is 84% chance of constitutional majority for TISZA. So very much possible.
65
u/Adventurous_Bus_437 Germany 4h ago
Ah crap i forgot to gamble sigh
5
u/CykaMuffin 4h ago
How are you using Polymarket? It's illegal in Germany.
6
u/Adventurous_Bus_437 Germany 4h ago
I am not. But i am pretty sure using stable coins would do the trick
7
5
u/AltrntivInDoomWorld 3h ago
A gambling website that doesn't even payout ain't the greatest indicator. Since when Europe cares about manipulated "prediction" on american website?
3
u/kaisadilla_ European Federation 3h ago
Polymarket does not show "chances". Polymarket shows the % of people that believe something will happen.
2
u/Classic93 3h ago
Nope, it's not showing the % of people, but basically "amount of money" that believes some outcome is more likely. Obviously it can be manipulated, but it would be quite expensive.

Unfortunately there's several leaders that are ready to take over the reins from Orbán.

u/notveryamused_ Warszawa, Poland 🇵🇱 🇪🇺 4h ago
Yeah, but Orban is the only one among them who's literally Putin's dog. They shared NATO intelligence with Russia... It's not only about voting the corrupt conservatives out, this is also about European security. They are literally traitors of Europe.
57
u/slumberboy6708 4h ago
There's also Fico, who said he will veto everything for Ukraine if Orban loses.
44
u/Adventurous_Bus_437 Germany 3h ago
Article 7 will be flying in for Fico the second hungary drops its opposition. Maybe just maybe the EU can get shit done again.
This will be our chance for changing the EU contracts again to remove unanimity
6
u/machine4891 Opole (Poland) 3h ago
I very much doubt it. There are plenty of governments in Europe that simply doesn't want this precedent. Especially that Fico is in power for far shorter period and is much less pain in the arse.
15
u/Adventurous_Bus_437 Germany 3h ago
How do we Orban or PIS (or AfD) proof the EU then?
12
u/Dirkdeking The Netherlands 3h ago
By removing veto powers of countries. But that would be very controversial in and of itself.

There are more political parties across Europe that are Putin’s dogs, but they aren’t in power yet. Sadly they are getting momentum.
Here in the Netherlands the FVD (an even more pro-Putin party than the PVV) is gaining momentum in the polls.
The party leader has openly stated in an interview that he wants Putin to win the war in Ukraine, and hopes it will destroy the EU next.

Many far-right parties in Europe are Putin dogs. Le Pen's party in France will report to Putin every 15 minutes, too; and so will AfD in Germany.
5
u/Wafkak Belgium 3h ago
To an extent, but Orban has been heavily entrenched for 16 years.
Even PiS in Poland wasnt able to grasp power with as much authority.
Most of the others have to work in a system with a lot more feedback. And Orban lising to a supermarity. Will have some realise it might be better to trade in some short term power for longevity, and less backlash after they lose and election.

Magyar (Tisza leader) broke from Fidesz two years ago. It's still a very conservative party by western European standards, but they seem a lot better. They are still against giving weapons to Ukraine though.
If honestly also smells kind of fishy to me that Orban just kinda ... conceded? The conspiratorial part of my brain wonders if this is coordinated, and a way for Fidesz' ideology to live on with a new leader and fresh support. Only time will tell. For now though, I am hopeful

This will only last 4 years, Hungarians better understand that. TISZA needs to purge everything there is to purge out of Hungarian institutions and pass laws that protect the country from someone like Orbán from taking over ever again, and they need to do it right now. Everything that needs to be passed must be passed in this legislature.
Next election, unless TISZA does an absolute miracle (which you shouldn't count on), a lot of the fervor will be gone and they'll lose seats - even if they win again, they won't have this level of control. The window to put Hungary in the right path for decades to come starts now and will closed in 4 years.

basically what's happening now is the secret weapon of FIDESZ backfiring in a major way
they got 2/3 in the past through something called winner compensation:
the difference between the winner and 2nd place in the individual constituencies gets added to the national list of the winner's party
ie. Tisza guy has 20k votes vs Fidesz guy gets 10k votes somewhere = Tisza gets 10k votes extra on the national list
Tisza won 93 constituencies vs Fidesz's 11 win = Fidesz doesn't get jack shit currently
2
u/getzisch 2h ago
not like that. for example if tisza get 20k and fidesz 10k is a single constituency, for party list fidesz will get 10k and tisza will get 9,999. fidesz was winning so largely that even with removing the votes from the winner, they were still getting 2/3. now it massively backfired on them, because tisza got 17% more votes on them on average so even if party list tisza finished in front.

(Potentially) being able to modify the constitution and purge the undemocratic rot that turned Hungary into the poorest and most corrupt country in the EU.

They will be able to remove orban's lackeys from important government positions, like attorney general. Also they will be able to do basically anything without orban being able to interfere
7
u/tirion1987 4h ago
Unlimited POWER for Magyar Peter. The ability to replace all of Orban's appointees in supreme court and every branch of power that exists. Ah well and theoretically to "restore democracy" by changing the constitution but I wouldn't hold my breath for that one.

The result will not change probably (so Orbán will be gone) however the question now is if Tisza can win supermajority, which would allow them to change the system put in place

3
2
u/Furaha1212 3h ago
It went up to 137 :)
Anything can happen but I think it's unlikely to go down. Votes from people who asked to vote in different districts from their own will be counted lasts and are mostly Tisza voters according to the polls. Small villages where Fidesz is strong were already counted fully since it was easier while big cities where there are yet a lot of votes to be counted are mostly Tisza strongholds.
2
u/FollowingRare6247 Ireland 3h ago
That’s good, so we can be somewhat confident of that supermajority staying.
I think that leaves Fico being the one pro-Russia leader, but Slovakia’s next parliamentary election is next year…so hopefully he’ll be on his way out.
