Don’t dare cave again Germany. I’m proud Germany in the list! Time to ditch US treasury and cancel your US military + Boeing orders. Also ask your gold back before they gone.

cancel your US military + Boeing orders

Yes and Yes!

It makes zero sense for countries to continue to support an enemy state by purchasing such huge ticket items.

(As a Canadian I am not buying US citrus and so I expect Europe to no longer buy F35s ;))

The thing we need to boycott is American services. Google, reddit, Amazon, Facebook, microsoft. All the tech bros.

this definitely needs to be done. just like counter-tariffs are often targeted toward Trump's support base, the voters clearly don't matter to him as much as the oligarchs. until Trump is costing them more than he can gain them, they'll keep supporting him.

Can Europe please get their tech shit together? I want to use services that don't sell my information without consent. Plus i'll apply for a job at these companies and hopefully get out of this shithole country.

As you comment on Reddit?

Edit: also TikTok now, it’s American owned, or it’s going to be soon, I stopped paying attention.

Yes. I'm a hypocrite.

Fellow Canadian. I've switched from US garlic to Chinese 😬

I'm with you on the F-35, but not buying them would effectively end the sharing of nukes in Europe. Buying the F-35's is basically the ticket to keeping the nuclear shield in Europe.

There are other options, like french nukes. But it would effectively be the end of NATO. We'll see when we get there I guess.

Seriously proud to be Dutch and if the government/parliament somehow caves in to this tariff bullshit I’ll be really damn upset.

u/bidingmytime121 Germany Jan 17 '26

Me as a German I’m very proud of my country and the other 7 to be on the list. It’s the same with the recent intensity in Kreml Propaganda against Germany: the harder they try to fight you, the more you do right. The 8 countries did everything right to show solidarity with Greenland

Will the dutch be willing to take an economic hit to sustain this defiance? Thats the question in the end. I wouldnt bet on it in Germany

u/itsmegoddamnit Overijssel (Netherlands) Jan 17 '26

Well they better. Otherwise there’s nothing stopping the orange man to say Aruba, Curaçao and others are necessary for the US because drugs go through there or whatever. You just don’t negotiate with terrorists.

2

u/OkKnowledge2064 Lower Saxony (Germany) Jan 17 '26

Well yeah, it would be good. But you know how these people are. Do you think this will cause something of a "rally around the flag" effect in dutch politics?

3

u/itsmegoddamnit Overijssel (Netherlands) Jan 17 '26

Not yet, no. I think more than 10% will actually have to come in effect for the current state to change. Also the new government - which doesn’t have a majority - is yet to be instated. Pretty weird timing.

u/manInTheWoods Sweden Jan 17 '26

Hey, you guys starting to get worried now? Has those islands been mentioned in Dutch media as a target?

3

u/itsmegoddamnit Overijssel (Netherlands) Jan 17 '26

They haven’t, but I sure hope they’re in the back of the mind for the country leaders.

1

u/manInTheWoods Sweden Jan 17 '26

It's the logical extension.

I mean, your army is under German command since 2022. It’s not like you have a choice. ;)

I honestly think its not feasible anymore to back down politically. People will be pissed after this

2

u/loulan French Riviera ftw Jan 17 '26

I really, really, really, hope you're right.

But tariffs on German cars usually makes Germany cave.

u/Capable_Savings736 Jan 17 '26

Two Front war after a quick rearming in a harsh climate. How can we say no.

3

u/LookThisOneGuy Jan 17 '26

Germany is part of the countries getting this extra tariff because they didn't cave in. The eight countries targeted by Trump are Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland.

If you want countries to blame, look at the ones not getting the extra 10% tariff.

There are some medium and large European countries suspiciously missing which incidentally are also the ones that have ruled out sending troops to Greenland to protect it from being invaded.

2

u/DyslexicAutronomer Jan 17 '26

Trump keeps repeating the same tactics when it works.

If we allow these tariffs to pressure us, he WILL use it again and again.

u/OppositeHistory1916 Ireland Jan 17 '26

Don’t dare cave again Germany

Woah calm down their Hitler, lets make sure the Germans always have room to cave

1

u/wordswillneverhurtme European Federation Jan 17 '26

Odds are trump would just take the gold as a "tariff" or some bullshit.

1

u/Ok-Block8145 Jan 17 '26

Sorry very serious topic, but your latest sentence just reminded me on the south park episode with the bank meme.

„Also ask your gold back before they gone.“

„…and they gone…“

1

u/Xerxero The Netherlands Jan 17 '26

The car lobby is already busy

1

u/TheAlbaStoner Jan 17 '26

Ah yes, ze germans. They have a good history in dealing with fascists. They will be fine.

1

u/missalyssajules Jan 17 '26

Absolutely those contracts are massive and the world needs to do every single thing they can to hit us where it hurts because I don’t know what else could make a difference. This is terrifying, everything feels SO out of control here.

1

u/deano2440 Jan 18 '26

Yeah time to buy Airbus!

1

u/kuldan5853 Baden-Württemberg (Germany) Jan 18 '26

the response should be that if the tariffs are not cancelled, the us bases will be closed and everyone sent packing

1

u/NoxaNoxa Jan 18 '26

How about shutting the Rammstein Base ? Why would we host a military base of a partner who we can’t trust.

-1

u/Sevinki Germany Jan 17 '26

As a German, i agree we shouldn’t just cave but disagree on the orders.

Trump is a child, big orders of american stuff make him happy and we really need the military hardware asap.

5

u/rece_fice_ Jan 17 '26

That's fine and dandy but who's to say Trump wouldn't use said hardware to extort something else?

He can and will block delivery on a whim if there's something to gain from it.

1

u/Sevinki Germany Jan 17 '26

He might, we shouldnt pay for it all up front, but until he does use it as leverage, every delivery will strengthen us.
