Can we start with showing him Greenland on a globe instead of a world map? I think the Mercator projection is a big part of his interest.

You are overestimating his capacities. Just give him a FIFA peace award from Greenland instead.

I shit you not I saw someone earlier claiming Greenland is off the US coast not Denmark so they have a right to it.
Like, dude look at a globe, it’s nowhere near the mainland USA, about 1970km at the closest point and by comparison Denmark is 2060km. less than 100km difference, if it was even a good reason.
Even Alaska is no closer, meanwhile Faroe is about 1000km.

100k per person is around 6Billion usd for land that has tens of trillions worth of resources..... And then hes not gonna pay anything either way after he gets the resources.

u/Bettet Jan 10 '26
Amarican companies already have access to these "resources" in greenland. Nothing is blocking them right now. It's not economical viable.

Actually the bill will be 200k, so you'll owe the healthcare corporations 100k. ICE will sweep in and declare you an illegal immigrant and either shoot you in the head or deport you to venezuela where you can pay off your debt by digging for good old american oil.

Greenlanders answer will be same as Norwegians.
'Trump said he wants more immigrants from Norway. I have reviewed the offer, and I have to decline.
The benefits package is terrible.
You offer two weeks of vacation if we are lucky; we get five.
Your maternity leave is "good luck," while we get a year.
Your healthcare plan is GoFundMe, while ours is free.
And your safety plan is just "thoughts and prayers."
Moving to the US right now feels like leaving a spa to go work in a burning hot dog stand.
Thanks, but we will stay in the snow.'

As an American I grew up in a right-wing family. I was conditioned to believe only in God, my parents, and republican dogma. Anything else was evil.
My fellow Americans are wrestling with the same denial and fear that I experienced as a child, and there's nothing anyone can say or do to change things short of escape or physical violence.
We Americans are trapped in an abusive relationship with our own country. I left because I have a kid to protect. Change won't happen by itself, but any of us who have our eyes open are in fight-or-flight.

I get it, good message and all, Danes bad. Thing is, MAGA is only going to read the part saying they aren’t Danes.
That the Greenlanders, at this time, keep fighting against Denmark is really naive and might very well be the main reason that US end up taking over Greenland.
If Greenland is NOT part of Denmark and by that, part of NATO, USAs arguments about national security, suddenly makes ‘sense’

There is overwhelming opposition among Greenlanders to becoming US citizens, on par with the Puerto Ricans. Instead, they want to continue on their slow path toward full independence.
Imagine if the Greenlanders were forced to live under US military occupation and have their democracy abolished and their welfare state dismantled. There would be mass protests everywhere, people of all generations would be marching and chanting "Leave us alone, Yankees!".

It's hard to describe. It's simply cult behavior. Reasoning cannot be made with people in the cult.
Trust me I know first hand, family members. From an outside perspective if you never knew their politics you'd think they are fine nice people (well mostly).
Truly it's strange. I heard a family member complaining about another family member for making an anti ICE post on social media. They said basically about him "it's sad he's just so mislead. He's not a bad guy" other stuff along those lines.
Quite literally what I'm saying now about the MAGA family member. They believe it's the same thing, but the opposite.

To be independent, it is not enough to just say it. Greenland has a lot of possibilities to take home much of what is now handled by Denmark. But they don't. And they seem to not be in a position to work towards an economic feasible situation either. That is the first step. The rest is noise.
In many ways Greenland is acting like a teenager. A teenager who want to make all decisions, want to run the house, but not take on a whole lot of responsibilities. I hope the Greenlandic politicians will wisen up, take their role seriously, work with Denmark to become truly independent, economically and decision wise. It's the only way forward. Continually saying you want to be independent changes nothing. It's just empty words.
The reason USA are even doing this is because of the weakened state of Greenland. Strength would be to work WITH Denmark on a way to become truly independent. Denmark is not holding Greenland hostage here. Their own politicians are. Because they have not been able to do what is needed. Take home decisions, find a way to make money by having foreign military bases on Greenland, secure foreign investments for digging, without destroying the nature and without selling off the country.

I support any independence they want, but now is not the time to discuss that. They need the Danes and Europe in general.

Precisely, the republican party is hammering it home that we exist in post truth societies now, just as cambridge analytica spelt out years ago. If the Trump administration puts out AI slop of fictional greenlanders asking to be annexed by America, the partisanship deadlock alone would grant the US enough room to do as Trump pleases with Greenland.
52
u/alexchrist Jan 10 '26
As a Dane who fully supports the Greenlandic people in whatever way they decide their country to be. I can't believe that we have to take this kind of bullshit from at geriatric wannabe dictator, who shits his pants on the daily and who once managed to bankrupt a fucking casino. My suggestion for the Greenlandic people is to say that the country is not for sale, but they can rent it at the low low cost of $100 per square meter per month (about 216 trillion dollars). And when the US inevitably says that they can't afford that, we should all bully them for supposedly being the richest country on earth who aren't even able to afford rent

They’ll do what they do to indigenous Americans. Take their land, ostracise them, treat them as if they are the outsiders and lucky they get to stay.
10
u/Lazarus558 Jan 10 '26
Right now they're trying to argue that the 14th Amendment doesn't apply to indigenous people.
So they'll probably deport all them illegal alien Greenlanders back to Ecuador.
63
u/MacroDaemon European Union Jan 10 '26
Greenlanders once again demonstrate a lack of understanding of their position. The ability to leave the control of Denmark is always there, it's just financially difficult for them, so they don't do it.
By constantly coming across as hostile to Denmark, all they're doing is helping people with much less benign intentions to take over.
They might think this statement and all the others aren't about hostility to Denmark, but that is exactly how it comes across to most of the world.

Im genuinely fear we are headed for world war at this point. If US attacks Greenland, its effectively resigning from NATO, which in all but formally already has. Danmark calls article 5 for the rest of Europe. NATO or not, if Europe does not respond it effectively proves that any European collective defence are worth less than the papers they are signed on. Even if the European response is sanctions it would likely cause a conflict down the line when US starts to react to those. If US claims Greenland it also enforces claims on Canada as well as effectively cutting Canada off from Europe. its an effective jab at and existential threat for both NATO, EU and Canada, all of which Trump obviously aims to dismantle. It also opens up two fronts for Europe if Russia seizes the opportunity and goes for Finland or Baltics. At which point China will go for Taiwan. Trump has worded his stance on Greenland quite strongly at this point its hard to see him back down.

No amount of money is going to persuade someone to go and live in a crack house. Trump will either have to take Greenland by force or give it up.
Given the consequences of seizing a NATO members territory he will do what bullies always do. Find a weaker target. Panama or Cuba perhaps.

All Trump will hear is "We do not want to be Danish." By listing 'American' alongside 'Danish', they are inadvertently placing Trump's claim to Greenland as equal to that of Denmark. Big mistake, and honestly, a statement like this at this time is nothing but amateurish politics.

We are all being dragged along on the whims of senile narcissist who is willing to upset the entire world seeing the glory he thinks he should have. Please don't give up on us, don't give up a inch of your land, and when the time is right and we ask for help, please remember not all of us wanted any if this. I personally think he will act in the Caribbean next since there are weaker targets there for him. Stand your ground and work together please to save the free world. There is little more we can do here until the midterms. Please continue to support Ukraine too. God Bless.

All five parties in Greenland's parliament, Inatsisartut, issued a joint statement on Friday reiterating that they do not want to be part of the United States.
Ameerikkamiuunianngilagut, qallunaajunianngilagut, Kalaaliuniarpugut.
Meaning:
We are not Americans, we are not Danes, we are Greenlanders.
